Scratch Scorers League S1 Board Planning
~ Introduction ~
Hello fellow board members and backup board members of the SSL! I am so excited to announce the reboot of the SSL! As most, if not all of you know, I started the SSL earlier this year, but it kind of fell apart. The purpose of this league before was to ensure a fair and fun league for all to play in. However, I ran out of time and motivation to put up with all that was going on. Sadly, this meant that the SSL had to be shut down before completing a single season. This was not a very enjoyable time, but it was a great experiment to see some ideas that would and would not work.
This time, things are going to be different. In the first year of SSL, I had written the rules and managed the league completely by myself. Instead of following that poor strategy of running the league, I will now be enlisting the help of others, the board members! Together, we will divide and conquer in order that we may also unite the league into one enjoyable, fair, and trustworthy league. We will be in the developmental stages of the SSL for months so that we may all come up with the correct format for the league. With all this being said, I ask that you please read the entirety of this post and respond with questions and comments that will be helpful to any piece relating to this document.
[Note: This discussion topic was created for and written with all SSL board member and back-up board members in mind. These are people who have already been preselected and this is a message written directly for them. If you wish to become a board member of the SSL, please message me, @Bgvikings08 on my profile.]
~ Purpose ~
I would like to take a moment to make a statement about the purpose of the SSL. I want to make it clear for all people planning on leading this group, because all our rules and roles should exist to fulfill our purpose.
The purpose of the SSL is threefold. First, and most importantly, we want people to be shown care. When people come to the SSL, they should not have to worry about being falsely accused or mistreated. Their feedback should be taken with humility and respect. In all things, they should not be treated as if they are criminals. Second, we want players to have fun. Players should enjoy their time in the SSL. Games chosen should be playable and fun to most people. Fun means that there should also be good competition. Teams need to be active and motivated. They need to be positive and not produce negativity towards teammates and other teams. Last, but not least, I desire for the SSL to be a place of clarity. Those who play in the SSL should have access to a clear explanation of rules. They should know the schedule and be told when changes occur. When one team questions the fairness of the rules or of another team, clarification should be given.
~ Board Members ~
This year, we have the addition of board members to the SSL. Your jobs as board members will contain similar and different characteristics. First, the similar characteristics include the responsibility of running the league. You will all participate in discussions about league improvement and, if needed, take votes if prompted to do so. However, you all will have different roles in running the league. You do not have full control as you must report any changes or moves you wish to make to the commissioner (@bgvikings08) before they become official. As board members, you are expected to read all updates, posts, and news pertaining to the league. You should also be very active in all your roles and notify me when you cannot be active.
List Of Current Board Members And Backups:
~ Role Descriptions ~
Commissioner - This is the executive director of the league. The commissioner approves and disapproves of any rules or changes to the league and is in charge of making sure the league runs smoothly.
Supervisor - This is the second-in-command of the league. The supervisor's role is to make sure all other roles are going smoothly. The supervisor may need to take over other's responsibilities when there is an absence. The supervisor should report to the commissioner any league “drama” or other actions prohibiting the way that the league functions.
Analyst - The analyst's role is to share weekly updates to the standings, power rankings, and game summaries.
Reporter - The reporter's role is similar to the analyst in that they can post news about the league. This includes trades, drops, pickups, and more.
Schedule Designer - The schedule designer's role is to create the year's schedule, playoff bracket, and choose what games are to be played.
Rule Expert - The rule expert's role is to know all the rules and to post any changes to the rules that have been approved. This person will keep the rulebook updated and make sure rules are being followed.
Stat Gatherers (x2) - There will be two of these. Each stat gatherer will collect different kinds of stats to share throughout the year and keep track of SSL history.
Take note that some of these roles are interchangeable and that if you get one role, you may be able to do the jobs of the other roles as well. You may even work together on another role with others. These are very flexible. Also, you may or may not be able to play on other teams as board members depending on your roles.
The following roles cannot play on a team during the season: Commissioner; Supervisor, and Schedule Designer
~ The Plan ~
Under this section, all board members and backups will find a weekly discussion topic relating to the league. You MUST be active in discussion. Do not merely talk to me, but to each other as well. To be considered active in the discussion, you must share your thoughts, ask questions, or respond with feedback on what others said multiple times a week. If we do not finish a discussion topic during the week, we will continue until we figure it out. If it takes a long time for us to figure rules out, we will not be starting the season for even longer. Make sure you follow this forum thread so you get notified when new things are posted.
This week's topic/goal::
Step 1 - This week, you will all make sure you read COMPLETELY through this post. Respond with any questions, concerns, or comments you have.
Step 2 - Fill out this form: Top 3 desired roles in order//Are you willing to not play on a team if needed for a separate role//How confident are you in your ability to fulfill your responsibilities//What are some questions or concerns you have?
Step 3 - Follow this thread.
*Step 4 - Discuss the initial ideas, league purpose, and additional desire for the league with other board members. Let's figure out how we want to plan this league by December 13th so we can start with the rules.
*Ammended from this week's original message

~ This Week's Final Notes ~
This first topic/goal is going to be two weeks long since it is the first week. I need to get a lot of school done and plan more for this, so I am starting it off with more time to get going, especially so people have more grace on the first deadline. Make sure to read through everything. I wrote this for a couple hours and now it is just about 2:30 AM, so I cannot think anymore. Anyways, this post will be updated weekly with new stuff! Be actively checking in! Have a good day y'all!

Step 1: By the ‘How confident are you in your ability to fulfill your responsibilities’ question of what you want us to fill out, confidence in what specifically? I put my confidence in the different positions, but I’m not sure if that’s it.
Step 2:
Top 3 desired roles in order:
Stat Gatherer, Rule Expert, Reporter (Low-key I’ll have to gather stats from the league anyway, so I wouldn’t mind having an official position to make life easier. I know I’m only a backup member though, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get the position)
Are you willing to not play on a team if needed for a separate role:
100%
How confident are you in your ability to fulfill your responsibilities:
Depends what I’m doing. As a board member, I am. As a Stat Gatherer, well I was made for that, I love statistics and already have tons of experience with GL stats. As a Rule Expert, I think so, I’ve been in almost every league so I’ve seen many different rulebooks as well. As a Reporter/Analyst, I believe I am decently experienced with that (SLOG Talk Show). As a Schedule Designer, not very confident. And as Supervisor/Commissioner, not at all.
What are some questions or concerns you have:
Look at the top of my post, otherwise I don’t have any at the moment

This question is asked to gather whether you believe that you will have the time and effort to fulfill your responsibilities. It also has the purpose to determine whether or not you feel you can do any of the roles mentioned. You filled this form out correctly and I will take this into consideration if you do become a board member in the future. Thank you!

How confident am I in my ability to fulfill my responsibililities? If I put it on a scale from 1-10, I would say 7/10.

I am willing to not play, and I’m willing to play if needed- Insert me wherever is needed.
How confident am I in my ability to fulfill my roles/responsibilities? I feel confident in my ability as I currently take on a similar position in SLOG, which is currently running smoothly.
Questions/Concerns? I have neither at the moment

Hello BG and all board members! This was a great post! Here is my completed form:
Top 3 Desired Roles: (in order) Schedule Designer, Rule Expert, Stat Gatherer. I would prefer to be a Schedule Designer IF that's ok with the board, since my experience in designing and managing the schedule and playoff format for SLOG's unique format which I believe to be one of the factors to have made SLOG popular from the other gaming leagues at the time, and I hope to do the same if I get the chance in SSL. (I have made schedules with SAC S4*, SCPL, SLOG S1-3, and plan to do more in the future
*didn't make the final but made a rough draft that Dude used to make the final) Of course, I am fine with any other role I get.
I would prefer to play, but of course I am 100% fine if I am requested not to.
How confident am I in my ability to fulfill my roles/responsibilities? I feel very confident in my ability to fulfill my roles/responsibilities. I have managed several leagues over the years. My 1st position was at SAC giving ideas for change in Season 4. (Most got approved). Then, I joined SCPL as an official rule manager and filled in for Yowza as temp commish when he was gone, giving score updates, maintaining the rules, and using that knowledge, decided to be an official commissioner and hired mysteryman777 to be my co-owner and analyst for SLOG. (he does a great job btw
)) I have also co-managed IGL since Season 2 with Icee, and I am the co-commissioner for SSS, a 1v1 league I run with K-man. (sorry for the yap I just have a lot of experience :XD)
Questions/Concerns? I have neither at the moment, but I would love to answer/ask any questions that may arise in the future. Happy Holidays!
