scratch should realize the truth a little more

the first thing that pops up to ur mind when you think of coding is “boo too hard!” but when you learn it and pick it up it becomes too easy. scratch is a victim of this. scratch started as a childrens website to help kids learn to code.but now its become a skill ceiling pushing scratches coding to its absolute limites. now scratch right now is in a medium spot. however if junior became scratch as it is right now (coding blocks wise.), normal scratch could be given a larger skill ceiling. and the owners could take our suggestions a little more seriously. HOWEVER. scratch is no longer a website children use nowadays, due to children being stuck on Roblox or computer games, scratch has basically become a assignment for them, not something they can pick up whenever and have fun. not only that but THE OWNERS OF SCRATCH SHOULD REALIZE THIS. obviously when you put a 10 year old who plays steal a brainrot 24/7 and make them use scratch, they are not gonna like it, but iff you put a 22 year old who wants to have fun coding but playing games whilst doing that, their immediately hooked. now if scratch want to keep the same tactic of making it kid friendly I completely understand, thats the whole point of scratch, but with scratch Jr being a website for 5-7 year olds (of which probably have no concept of Roblox/computer games), they like it because they are making games with the easiest form of block coding! unlike scratch which is harder for a 5-10 year old to understand and learn naturally, scratch Jr also is very user friendly, so why try and make scratch more user friendly if scratch Jr exists?

Scratch is still a website that children use as there are over 150 million and the scratch foundation wants 100 million more before 2027

This post is making a LOT of generalisations.
Yes, kids do still use this website, and they should be entitled to. A 10-year-old probably won't like using Scratch Jr.
If your suggestion is that Scratch should boost its age rating, that's also a rejected suggestion, as shown below.

7.2 A 13+ version of the Scratch website or age-restricted content
Scratch is designed for ages 8 to 16, but any content shared on the website must be appropriate for all ages. Dividing the community by making a separate, age-restricted website would not be helpful. Potential restrictions from entering the website (such as a warning, or requiring a parent to answer math equations) would not necessarily stop an underage child from entering the 13+ website.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a high skill ceiling in a children's coding site, as long as the skill floor is low, which I would say it is. Any coding platform that provides as little as costumes, movement, variables, transparency, and sound can do just about anything in 2D given enough time, and these possibilities are only expanded by what Scratch offers, especially Pen. The most important thing for Scratch is that the younger audience can make reasonably good projects and learn in the process without having to know complicated setups, and I'd say that this is the case.

I guess your definition of 10yr old is different than m8ne.

Yes, because I've lived with one. I have siblings.

I fully support raising the skill ceiling of scratch. The common disagreement to suggestions that raise the skill ceiling of scratch mostly boil down to “New scratchers will be confused by this.” which is a flawed point, furthermore, tutorials, guides, and experimenting exists. If scratchers never tried to understand the confusing thing, they would never get better, and be stuck at stage 0. And another thing: Adding more complex blocks allows for more complex projects that push the boundaries of what you can create.

Why would they if it's already hard to moderate 150 million?

This is literally more of a parent's job than a kid's job. The reason why kids are hooked on those brain rot trash is because parents aren't doing anything to moderate what their children watch. Scratch is still being used by kids around the world because well, it's a school-based program that actually puts kids needs first. Roblox is just a kid's game by name only (there have been multiple cases of crimes involving Roblox) and guess what? The kids are hooked on all that dump and even the CEO wants to make it into a less kid friendly game.

Another reason why we have this dumb ID age verification system coming into the US for some sites

I hope Scratch doesn't do that data collection scheme.

Why would they if it's already hard to moderate 150 million?

Then they'll hire more moderators. They wouldn't almost double their user-base without hiring more support. That's also why they're introducing the Scratch membership, to raise more funds for expansion. They want to expand to have as many kids learning to code as possible, that's the entire purpose of Scratch.

They can't just make that happen easily.
