Previewing Projects
Hello, welcome to my suggestion about project previews, likes dive into it!
The Problem
When someone posts a link to a project, if they give little detail of what it's about, you have to click on the project to see what it is about, this can be bad since the user might not like the project.
The Solution
I suggest they could add a preview when you hover over the project and plays a demo version of the project, so you know what it's about. This helps so people can know all about the project and if it's something they like.
Feel free to give feedback, see you soon!
Note: If this is added, it can be a scratch toggle which is on by default, so people who don't want previews of the project can toggle it.
Stats
If added, it will do the following things to different projects:
For games, you have like 3 minutes to play it
for animations, it's 30 seconds to watch
for art projects, it will just stand there
for slideshows, you get to see the first 3 costumes.

Okay, but what do you mean by “preview?” Like what the page looks like or a gameplay video, or what?

Just like a youtube preview when you hover over with your mouse, it shows you a speak peek of the link you hovered on. Okay, but what do you mean by “preview?” Like what the page looks like or a gameplay video, or what?

How would it know what to preview? If it's a game, how would the preview know how the game, well, games and know how to preview it?

What's so bad about giving a creator a view if you don't like their project? It isn't an issue at all.
This seems ridiculously hard to make as well. How would the preview work? Scratch projects aren't like YouTube videos where you can just show a snippet. Videos have predetermined lengths, projects do not.

Okay… ? I'm kind of confused, but I guess it would work somehow? Like, I guess 4.5/10 support of something.

I'll just remove that one line about views. What's so bad about giving a creator a view if you don't like their project? It isn't an issue at all.

Can you just go in editor and hide the thumbnail?

There's no way you can hide the thumbnail anymore.

i think this would be better if the project's title and stats were shown instead

no support. not only is it nearly impossible to fit an entire project (especially a game) in a preview, but it's also hard to code and increases the lag in older devices running scratch. this ain't youtube, and you can't just fit anything inside an ant-sized display with NO FULLSCREEN.
by the by, how can scratch tell whether it's a game, an animation, an art project or a slideshow? will every single user have to state if their project fits in any of these categories? well, but what if their project doesn't fall into any of those?
and since most projects have clicking functionalities, you'd still end up clicking on it anyways. also, how is giving views a problem?
i might've overreacted, but this is pretty much useless, sorry. i'm highlighting this again: no support.

Semi-support. This could be useful for normal projects, but would ruin joke projects that are supposed to rickroll you.

Previewing ProjectsAn easy way of doing this is getting an extension (cannot be named) that allows you to record a scratch project. Then, record ~30 seconds of the project and convert it to a GIF file using ezgif or smth, then set the thumbnail as that GIF.
