better welcoming to the forums
New scratchers cant use the forums for a while after creating an account.
But when they do go on the forums and are able to post on it, I think there should be a popup saying something like this:
It would help new forumers feel more welcome and introduce a little forum ettiquite.
There could also be links to like the new scratchers forum if they are a new scratcher or whatnot.
But when they do go on the forums and are able to post on it, I think there should be a popup saying something like this:
Welcome to Scratch Discussion forums!
This is a great place to ask questions about scratch, join the community, request things, and more!
Please remember to follow the Community Guidelines when using the forums, and read the ‘stickies’ which are the threads marked with a pin near the top of the forum directory. You can also make a signature, which goes below your posts. You can customize it and it doesn't have to be related to your post.

Full support! It has loads of benefits and is basically just my suggestion of a better “Welcome to Scratch” but on the forums!
However what about Scratchers who are just seeing the forums for the first time? What about a forum visit counter where the popup appears when someone first visits the forums?
hmm, i wonder if this suggestion can be smoothly integrated with mine?

Support - The discussion forums are a lot more organized than the main site, so having something telling new forumers about the basics would be helpful.
failure is neccesary for learning… Yes, but also no, I bet it'd sure help someone if they knew what they're supposed to do in the first place, rather than posting without knowing what they're doing and getting confused over whatever. I have a feeling it could cut down on the number of spam posts.

failure is neccesary for learningyes and no, yes because at this very moment new forumers just get confused and just post a bit over the place, having to figure out everything by themselves, just like new Scratchers have to figure out how to navigate the website by themselves (a better welcome to scratch) sure, experienced forums will welcome them to the forums, but that's really it, just like scratchers may welcome new scratchers to scratch, but that's it, other than a part that explains community guidelines when they join scratch. no because if this suggestion was implemented, new forumers will learn the basics of them in no time

failure is neccesary for learningI agree that making honest mistakes is necessary for learning, although when you're in an online community such as Scratch, it might not always be seen as an honest mistake. This suggestion would just give some guidelines and much-needed welcoming : )

1000000000000000% support because it'd make everything welcoming and point out important rules to those new to the forums

(will this add to the suggestion?) hmm, what about this thing where it flashes the stickies the first time someone sees the forum encouraging them to read them?

(#4)oftentimes on the forums “failure” involves getting in trouble with the ST and possibly getting banned if it happens too much
failure is neccesary for learning
Bro nobody on this forum is getting banned for necroing a topic or whatever. In fact I'd argue that the opposite is true: there are no quality control mechanisms in place for the forum at all. Spam is basically rampant and the only rules that actually get enforced are empirical boolean violation rules. To this day there is nothing in place to prevent kids from bumping threads dating back to the Scratch 2.0 beta unlike every other forum on the planet.

Nobody is going to read this. People do not even read stickies. They're going to immediately close the popup. This will do nothing.

I do agree with you that moderation on the forums is kind of lax, I feel like the ST mods will just close topics and use pre-made replies 99% of the time to be honest. But maybe this would help some people just a bit?(#4)oftentimes on the forums “failure” involves getting in trouble with the ST and possibly getting banned if it happens too much

I personally think the forums suck and that new scratch users should experience other parts of the platform before falling down that rabbit hole
