Hi, I'm Dakota_The_Coder. You might remember me from that Turbowarp Link Button forum that I accidentally closed. But I'm back with a new suggestion!
The suggestion is this: When you click on Scratch's search bar, there should be a list of searches that are trending. That way, we can see what the most popular project hashtags are.

If you want to reopen the TW link button topic, just report the last post and say ‘reopen, accidentally closed’
This would be nice, but it would need to block blocked search terms.
How many would it display, and where?

Well, you know how when you click the search bar on Google or Youtube and a bunch of search suggestions show up below the search bar? They should display in that same style, just below the search bar. And it would show like 7-10.

I'm pretty neutral on this idea. Sure, google/youtube has it but I don't really see the point there, either. All it does it show you what other people are searching up, which is kind of unnecessary in my opinion.
Google and youtube have suggestions as you type, too, which imo is something that scratch could use. I believe there's a different suggestion for that, though.
In other words, I don't really see the point of why this is needed.
So, neutral support.

Well, if we know what the most popular searches are, we could make projects based around those searches and get more popular. Also, it would be good for Scratch noobs, because it could generate projects for them to play/watch/etc in their spare time.

Wouldn't that diminish creativity and originality and add to Scratchers being more fame-hungry?

Okay first of all, how would that diminish creativity? And what's wrong with being fame hungry?-snip-

Apologies, I should have been more clear. Wouldn't people only make projects based on the trending searches? Obviously not everyone, but more people would make the same genre or game to try to get more popular instead of coming up with their own game or taking inspo from somewhere else. Secondly, there's nothing wrong with being fame hungry, however it can lead to people doing not-so-great things like people getting caught up in trying to gain followers that it stresses them.Okay first of all, how would that diminish creativity? And what's wrong with being fame hungry?-snip-

Good points, but depending on what the searches are, it might be difficult to make Scratch projects based around trending searches. For example, if the trending search is for a specific Scratcher, they would have to make projects about that specific Scratcher. And also, just because the trending searches are there, that doesn't stop anyone from taking inspiration from somewhere else.Apologies, I should have been more clear. 1.x had a feature similar to this- on the homepage, it would show the most popular tags at the moment.

Either way, Scratch isn't and never will be about popularity in the first place - The whole point is just imagine, program, share, follows, likes/favs etc exist not for competition purposes but so you can see how people react to your game, and if they want to see more content you make(the whole purpose of following)
And while yes, they can still choose ideas from other sources, a lot of scratchers want their projects to be seen.
If not discouraging creativity(even indirectly,) it could still lead to more unrelated tags/tag spam.

I still don't see what's wrong with wanting to be famous. And you claim scratch will never be about popularity, but if that's true, why even have love/fave/etc buttons in the first place?Good points, but depending on what the searches are, it might be difficult to make Scratch projects based around trending searches. Why are you guys so xenophobic when it comes to scratch? It's like you don't want scratch to be a better place..

… Did you not see the part where I explained why we have the love/fave/etc buttons?
follows, likes/favs etc exist not for competition purposes but so you can see how people react to your game[or any other project, I should say], and if they want to see more content you make(the whole purpose of following)Also, how would this make scratch a better place, exactly?
I'm not “xenophobic”, I just see no good reason to add this.

Yeah, well, I see no good reason to NOT add this!!!! There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of the algorithms to boost your own content. That's what YouTubers do, and it works!!!!!!!! WHY AREN'T YOU SEEING MY SIDE OF THIS!?!?!?I still don't see what's wrong with wanting to be famous. YOUTUBE is a SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM BASED ON LIKES, SUBSCRIBERS, AND MONEY. SCRATCH is a EDUCATIONAL PLATFORM based on SHARING YOUR WORK (what you’ve learned) WITH OTHERS AND HAVE THEM BUILD UPON IT. There is a big difference. And also this can be easily abused as someone can bot the search bar to make it possible for inappropriate or mean searches to appear. No support at all. This can easily make scratch inappropriate very quickly.Yeah, well, I see no good reason to NOT add this!!!! There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of the algorithms to boost your own content. Yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that everyone wants their projects to get popular! And scratch is social media.Yes, but scratch isn't designed for that. Scratch is a coding language. The social media aspects are secondary.
