PROLOGUE

Warden sat alone on a rock outcropping, one of the many the few that speckled her Kingdom’s territory. She inhaled, tears stinging her eyes. Three days. It had only been three days since the death of her mother. Three days that had both taken so, so long, and yet it truly felt so short. So, so much had happened.
She'd become the queen. The leader. The one the entire group looked to.
It felt like too much.
As though summoned by some sort of supernatural voice, her best friend walked by, their fur gleaming in the moonlight as the cold nighttime air made her shiver.
