"Sinhala & Tamil New Year is HERE! Create & Celebrate!"
Happy Sinhala & Tamil New Year, Everyone!
Every April, Sri Lanka celebrates Sinhala & Tamil New Year (Aluth Avurudu & Puthandu)—a festival filled with joy, traditions, and togetherness! While this celebration is rooted in Sri Lanka, its message of new beginnings, family, and fun is something the whole world can enjoy! And YOU can be a part of it too!
* Looking for ways to celebrate? Here are some awesome ideas for projects you can create:
Animate a traditional Avurudu game (like Kotta Pora, Olinda Keliya, or Pancha Keliya!)
-Design an interactive Avurudu greeting card to share festive wishes!
- Showcase Avurudu music & dance—maybe even remix a classic tune?
- Create a cooking project about sweet treats like Kavum, Kokis, or Pongal!
- Make a project about New Year traditions—who wears the first new clothes, lights the first fire, or eats the first meal?
-Design a fun Avurudu mini-game—maybe one about the famous Avurudu Kumari/Kumaraya (New Year Prince & Princess)!
- Invite others to share their New Year traditions! How do YOU celebrate a new year in your culture?
Want more inspiration? Check out past projects or studios celebrating cultural festivals! If you create an amazing Sinhala & Tamil New Year project, we would LOVE to see it! You can even propose a project or studio to be featured!
There are so many ways to celebrate Sinhala & Tamil New Year—whether you're in Sri Lanka or anywhere in the world! The choice of what to create is up to YOU!
We can’t wait to see all the incredible projects you’ll make! =^.^=
