Why do people keep making suggestions to make Scratch more like Roblox?
Anyone with a hint of sense knows that Roblox has terrible, terrible moderation. So why do people keep trying to make Scratch more similar to it? I have seen suggestions that have asked to add private chatting, relaxing the filter, age ratings, etc. one even suggested that Scratch be made 13+. so, why?

I'm assuming they are people who joined Scratch when they were young, got introduced to Roblox, played Roblox and used Scratch and the same time, saw how fun Roblox was, and wondered why this couldn't be more like it.
The answer is very clear: Scratch isn't a gaming site.

That's specifically not true. Sure, Roblox has terrible moderation but keep in mind that yes, it is a corporation with a lot of money but they can't keep everything down as well as Scratch or other sites can.
The Roblox site is even bigger than Scratch by a wide margin and their moderation team is - i assume caught up with other problems on Roblox.
Their moderators aren't lazy - they are overwhelmed. I also assume that there is probably an essay like “Maybe the Scratch Team isn't so bad” but on Roblox.
Users registered on Scratch: 135,078,559 (source)
Users using Roblox monthly: Around 38,000,000 with the peak CCUs being 255,000,000 I believe (source)

I've found if you report really bad things (I play roblox from time to time) they do get taken down, but it takes a while and their support team is terrible. If you try to get anything done they usually won't do anything in time, although if people are using bypasses in the chat you can actually report them and they will be warned and kicked from the game sometimes.terrible moderation. No, roblox basically has no moderation whatsoever because their moderators are lazy Anyone with a hint of sense knows that Roblox has terrible,
I'm just grateful it isn't like last war: survival or rise of kingdoms. Always remember it could get worse.

A few hours later I looked up their profile and I found that their account did not get deleted. I've found if you report
Speaking of which, just a few months ago I’ve actually encountered another guy who also liked spamming bypassed swear words in the chat. From what I recall by looking at the messages from the people who were talking to the person bypassing swear words (because I had that guy blocked, by the way), I heard that they were using some kind of special font that lets them bypass swear words and also make them immune to any ban by roblox. I may be wrong though.

Why do people keep making suggestions to make Scratch more like Roblox?
In my experience most people who spam swearwords are “throwaway” accounts (bacon hairs) that joined a week or so ago, and if they get banned they go away. Usually Roblox uses IP bans for those kinds of people, but it is practically worthless because of VPNs.really bad things (I play roblox from time to time) they do get taken down, but it takes a while and their support team is terrible. I truly do hate that roblox wont hire any new moderators even though they have enough money to buy like a thousand more who are skilled at their job and probably even relax the stress put on their already existing moderators. Instead they just like to act like a worse Mr Krabs from SpongeBob - lying to investors that their moderation is great, even though it isn’t, and making money off it. Their moderators aren't lazy - they are overwhelmed. I also assume that there is probably an essay like “Maybe the Scratch Team isn't so bad” but on Roblox.
I remember back in December 2023 when I heard that somebody decided to test out Roblox’s poor moderation by collecting a sample of 200 obviously inappropriate Roblox accounts. Half of them were reported, half of them were not. In 3 days it was discovered by the person that none of them were deleted.

Both of the instances of people spamming bypassed swear words that I mentioned in my last post were possibly hacked accounts created somewhere between 2012-2015In my experience most people who spam swearwords are “throwaway” accounts (bacon hairs) that joined a week or so ago, and if they get banned they go away. If people can use VPNs to bypass Roblox IP bans, then I suggest Roblox should start distributing hardware bans instead. The only downside of hardware bans is that users could just go on another device that hasn’t been hardware banned yet and play Roblox from there

Why do people keep making suggestions to make Scratch more like Roblox?
Probably because Scratch and Roblox share a lot of the same audience, and people both overestimate the ST and their resources and don't understand why the ST hasn't implemented some suggestions to make Scratch more like Roblox (which are fairly clearly outlined in TOLORS, for the common ones anyways).
Also, at first glance Roblox and Scratch seem pretty similar. Both have programmable, playable things (experiences and projects, respectively), both have a target audience that is fairly young, both have multiplayer capability, both have ways of sharing things on them. Then you look at the differences, and realize that they're not so similar after all. The Roblox Corporation's primary goal is to make money (they are a for-profit company), while the Scratch Foundation's primary goal is to provide a way for kids to learn to code, and share that with their peers.

Why do people keep making suggestions to make Scratch more like Roblox?
Roblox’s poor moderation is probably one reason why I eventually moved to scratch. Although I am still a little active on Roblox, I only use it to browse the website. I use alt accounts to play games on Roblox occasionally (to those wondering how many alts I have, I have 180+).

While it is interesting to hear about the Roblox moderation scene - please remember that “Questions About Scratch” is here to help Scratchers learn Scratch - the website and the language. Let's please not take up space with other topics. A studio might be a good place for those discussions.
