If you’re following someone then it automatically makes you follow their followers but it only does it for the followers of the followers of the person you’re following and you can select who you want to follow (and there’s a button that lets you select all of them)

That would be exceedingly annoying. I don't want to be following all of the people who are following people who are following @griffpatch.

No support, when I follow someone I only want to follow them, not them and 50+ other people

And it will give you a pop-up where you select the users that you want to follow (and if you want to you can select them all to be following)

There's literally thousands of users following the people following @griffpatch, because so many people are following @griffpatch. Such a pop-up would be extremely long and take so long to load that it would be almost unusable. Thankfully the followers API endpoint is paginated (it only gives you so many followers until it makes you make another request) to avoid just this situation (trying to load them all at once).

I do not understand the “following following followers” part, but I do not want to follow everyone following @ScratchCat or @Griffpatch. Please, have mercy.

Griffpatch has 600k followers. I am not sifting through 600k followers to find, let’s say Za-Chary. If you want to follow someone specifically, just insert their username after scratch.mit.edu/users/ and follow them there. Also, wouldn’t this lag after you follow someone?

Rip griffpatch- ok on a serious note. Wouldnt this mean that if you follow someone who is being followed by lets say, bananamaster525 and then banamaster525 is also being followed by ScratchCat and so on, wouldnt I follow almost everyone on scratch? Also plus, lets say i want to follow my best friend, but to troll me, my worst enemy is following my best friend, meaning if I want to follow my friend I have to follow my worst enemy.

this seems to make some scratchers annoying if they added this

but yeah that would be annoying lets just say: i am following a scratcher with 5900 followers , but some of the followers are bots, so i need to follow the bots and his whole follower list to follow the scratcher?

It seems like this is an inefficient solution to a different problem- if you want user search functionality, just bump the existing topic about that.

Also wouldn't this ridiculously strain the servers?

Not to mention the fact that you can't follow more than 10,000 people anyways, so this would for the most part just instantly make you reach your follower cap when you follow a moderately popular Scratcher.

Why would anyone want this?

This just reduces control over who I follow, and requires effort if I want to properly curate who I get activity messages from.
