Change Username
8.1 Changing usernames or changing display namesWe all know it's rejected, but this is different, I'm suggesting a review and change username system.
If a user could change their username (or even set a certain “nickname” or “display name”), this could be very confusing for the Scratch community, especially for those following that user. In addition, this would make moderation of the website more difficult because it would be harder for the Scratch Team to keep an eye on what a user may be doing. The Scratch Team has allowed username changes only on very rare occasions, such as if the username contains personal information or causes gender dysphoria. Generally, the Scratch Team does not change usernames on request (including for reasons such as “I do not like my current username anymore”).
So in account settings, there would be a “I want to change my username” link (<p> tag).
Once your in the link, they will go to this page.
They can save but it wont show to others until scratch reviews and accepts it.
What the profile owner sees after it got saved.
If the scratch team rejects, that doesn't show and an alert shows up saying why it got rejected.
If they accept then, the username gets changed.
And the followers get a message.
They and ST can revert it, and users can only change it once a month.
Yes I think 8to16 is the best scratcher behind BigNate469 and SpyCoderX and han614698 and TheAutoCorrectingCat

Wouldn't that be kinda hard for ST? I mean, like, there will probably be loads of people trying to change their username at once, and the number of username change requests being sent could be quite a large amount

I like this, but it would take up a lot of the ST’s time to sort through name requests (and it’d be boring).
Reports are fine since the moderator gets to actually do something (remove projects, ban users, delete comments, etc.), but I don’t see the ST spending hours click “reject” or “approve” on usernames.
Plus, users would try to change their names to troll or joke names, which would waste the time of the ST.
Idea
Perhaps you a) can only request to change your name once a month and b) can only get 3 name changes before you need to go to contact us.
(Btw, how would @ links work? They are connected to the username, but if that’s changed the connected user also changes)

I feel like the only reason is “i dont like my username.”

You can already troll with reports, so if you troll with it, ban or alert or mute.
@ links would auto change to User (Old User)

Yeah, I think this is still rejected. It would be a ton of work by somebody on the team (I expect there would be a lot of requests) and the resources to handle them just aren't there.
