Revert the "Following" display back to normal

On November 2nd then they changed the followers and following to show the first ones before, I believe they did this because of ban speedrunners following famous scratchers for people to see them.

The following has nothing to do with that, and I believe people would want the first people they followed show last.

iirc, they did this because of the DDoS attack. Therefore, they shouldn't change it.

They did the FOLLOWERS, because of the DDOS attack, not the FOLLOWING

Still makes sense. I'm sure both were affected, based on looking at the attacker's account.

This probably didn't happen due to DDoS, even with the feature, it is possible…
An incident happened on griffpatch's profile that might have caused this..

This probably wasn’t on purpose, I think it was because of the DDoS attack. The bug will likely be fixed soon.

The amount of misinformation in this topic is wild.

It was not because of any attack that may or may not have occured.

It was due to a Scratch website downtime (which the cause of is irrelevant)..

They changed the order in order to try to reduce loading times for profiles. (it worked)
It's virtually the same reason the forums were down - because they were trying to improve loading times in other places.

I would assume that everyone thinks that comments loading in less than five minutes is more important than displaying followers in the proper order. This way, Scratch doesn't have to get your updated new followers until you click see more.

And to be clear, when Paddle confirmed all of this, he confirmed that the following and followers were BOTH done together to improve load time.

If there was a relevant cyber attack, this is like a 3rd or 4th degree side effect, not a direct result. And certainly had nothing to do with ban speedrunners or griffpatch.

I figured already. But the following should still be reverted.

Why? It's done for the exact same reason as the followers - to increase page load time. Many users follow more users then follow them.

Just made a duplicate to this thread by accident. Here's what I wrote in that post:

I feel like showing the oldest followers might cause more spam, especially for early followers of Scratchers with more follows.
Additionally, there just is not much reason to know the oldest followers of many Scratchers, since often these people have stopped using Scratch years ago.
Finally, showing the oldest followers first on the profile page makes the profile page inconsistent with the follower page, since the follower page still shows newest followers first.

The change to the “following” section should also be changed back, for pretty much the same reasons.

Edit: I just learned about the stress on Scratch's servers. If this change needs to stay for the load times, then I guess it probably should. Please revert this change when we no longer need it though.

There really shouldn't be a difference, the changes are so similar that it makes sense to group them into one topic.

Followers, specifically on major accounts like griffpatch or ceebee, change MUCH more. Every single time they change, they has to be one more request made to load the page. This means it can take over three seconds for each follower if my calculations are correct, and when griffpatch gets 10 followers per minute it slows the site down a lot. It’s not just his profile. It’s others to that he slows down.

As much as I don't like this change. This can potentially make the site and profile pages much faster and reduce server stress, and I think that is more important than a small stylistic choice.

The followers will stay the same, so it wont lag AS much as before.

I agree. I doubt anyone is following as much as they’re being followed. There’s limits to how many people you can follow. Remember it’s not the fact of having a lot of followers; it’s gaining a lot at once.
