Does DuckDuckGo use Chromium?

No- after a quick Google search it seems to use whatever webpage viewing tools your OS comes with.

Although on Windows that basically means Edge stripped back, leaving more or less the core of Chromium.

It uses whichever web-view toolkit your OS has. For macOS it uses webkit (Chromium uses Blink, which is based on webkit), and for Windows it uses Edge which is Chromium.

for web scraping duckduckgo mostly pulls from bing. bing's web crawler uses microsoft edge, a chromium browser, so if you want your website to be listed properly on duckduckgo, make sure it works in chromium browsers

they're referring to the browser, not the engine

web scraper ≠ browser engine

Web scrapers add webpages to an index from which you can search. Browser engines render webpages and run the code in them.

So, for example, web scrapers are responsible for making Scratch appear in the search results, but the browser engine makes Scratch actually work.

Anyways, this isn't about listing things in search results, it's about if a specific browser engine is used by DuckDuckGo.

Not directly. it uses WebView, but that's essentially chromium underneath.

On Windows, and I assume Android.

This is not the case on other operating systems- for Apple devices, for example, it's Apple WebKit.

This is not limited to DuckDuckGo.
Same with all browsers available on the Apple App Store.

Also; I am near certain this only applies to Apple.
I do believe browsers on all other Operating Systems, even other than Windows and Android, use the backend they are intended to use.

However, you can download Chrome or Firefox on a Mac, and use their engine instead of WebKit- it's only on iOS/iPadOS that you're restricted to the App Store and therefore WebKit.

Then it's probably Chromium.

What was the browser that came with your Android device?

also you could probably hit the globe icon, though I don't really know if that will work

Chrome.
Then not only does it use Chromium, it probably uses Google Chrome itself.

I think it uses Android WebView which is Chromium-based.
Are you sure?
