Good evening. We’re looking for a group of skilled persons for Soundwave Productions’ rhythm game project: Kokoro Beats. This forum topic is the main topic for this project! Hiring and general communication will take place here.

The game takes inspiration from the popular mobile rhythm game, Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku.

This project was created by BlauHourglass with the goal to provide insight and greater understanding on the workings of a rhythm game. Credits for most of this post was taken from the original post by Blau, with a few edits. We strive to uphold her legacy and continue this project as close to her vision as humanly possible. Add all developmental projects and stuff into here. You can also use it for general communication, however for faster contact with me or others use this thread.

Story Writing Thread: Thread (2.0)/1.0

Story writing! There will be lots of events, story chapters, etc! Follow the thread if you wanna keep up. This is to keep the main thread clean.

Designing Thread: Thread (2.0)/1.0

This game is going to be visual-heavy. A LOT of designing, tweaks, and adjustments will be made and considered. This is also to keep the main thread clean.

Audio Thread: Thread

Where everything music and sound-related happens. Composers, singers, and voice actors will receive their assignments here. I think by now you know where I'm going with this- yes, this is also also for keeping the main thread clean. Yume, you're so predictable xD

Question Of The Day Implementations:
I think we all agree that daily stand-ups were not that great for our team- It did motivate us to do more, but soon they kind of became a burden, as what we saw. So, we're implementing daily questions instead, to hopefully create more engagement and solidify the team a bit, if that makes sense- get to know each other a bit more, you know?

Currently, these are being taken from Potang and I's list of questions (do not ask how we made that much) If you have any suggestions for QOTDs, comment them in this studio and they'll be added to our ongoing list.

Overall Game Elements:

Visual novel styled dialogue
Rhythm game
Gacha system (MAYBE)
NPC relationships (will trigger certain events, art, stories, and songs)
Save function
RPG-styled movement

Visual Novel:

Static images of characters speaking with different expressions
Active relationship meter at the top with typical VN dialogue settings
Slightly transparent textbox at the bottom
Hopefully with voice actors… but this is ancillary…

Rhythm Game:

Notes flow from the top middle to a large scale towards the bottom (Just like PJSK)
2 Game Modes (PC + Mobile)
-> PC = standard single notes + hold notes
-> Mobile = standard single notes + hold notes + sliders (MOBILE is currently 2ND priority)
Dark + light mode? Also not MVP
Standard options for note speed, volume, etc

Gacha System:

Not very flushed out, I admit…
Currency is “Beats” or something like that…
“Beats” are earned by quests or playing the songs

Story:

Player controls a character, finally!
At start of game, player chooses gender and name
The main place is set in “International Academy of Music” or something like that
Age-range is standard high school years, because Scratch.
No LGBTQIA+.

Miscellaneous Game Mechanics:

The world is set to be sorta like a top-down pixel RPG (Omori, Pixel Dungeon, etc, etc…)
Player can be customized (Not MVP)
Profile can be customized (We'll probably make this a multiplayer, I'm not sure yet…)
In main lobby/home/whatever, player can view relationships, songs, stories/events, and profile…
NPCs that the player builds enough RP(relationship points) with can join you with special attributes/buffs during rhythm game or lounge in player's main screen…

World:

Time: Modern 2020s
Location: Prestigious music academy in London
- Despite the modern world, the academy has early 1900s infrastructure and feel

Strike System and Activity Checks:

Three strikes and you'll be fired.

How To Get Strikes:

If you miss an activity check without telling me beforehand and letting the team know, you'll be dealt with a single strike.
If you don't contribute to the process while work is open for taking and you're qualified to take it, you'll be dealt with a single strike.
If you're disrespect any team member, be rude, incite, or rouse drama, you'll be dealt with a single strike.
If you miss a regular member activity that is specifically made to be available to everyone, you will be dealt with a single strike. This includes commenting in my project, Soundwave Productions' Staff Mingling Center.

How To Clear Strikes:

You can't. Once you have a strike, it stays with you until you get fired.

Can I Rejoin?

Yes, you can, but, allow me to stress this point: We will remember you.

Activity Checks:

These can happen around every two weeks to a month, and can include check-ins on Scratch or Mural (for those who have access).

This is step 1 of the switchover. Blau needs to give Yume host on the studio, plus potentially transferring the other forums. Maybe see through contact us if you can transfer ownership without wasting the topics that don't have a lot of posts. There are also the other sites, but those are shared.

Yeah i just followed griffpatch's tutorial and added a bunch of extra stuff. If you want to know how to add your own art just watch griffpatch's first couple of videos on his RPG series!

Story writers! If you can, head on over to the Story Writing Thread, we need to finish up the writing so we can move on to the next parts of the development, as pretty much all of the art, music and design is dependent on the storyline.
