❛ why i want the kit & why im applying for the kit ❜
⇢ while ive had a few characters throughout my time in tfcrp — my current character being buttermilkperch <3 —, i love creating them and fleshing out their lives. now, because there are two character slots in tfcrp ( yay haha ) i can succumb to the temptation of applying for splash while keeping my current character and developing his life as a late warrior. i love splash’s design, which is /so/ satisfying to doodle everywhere too ( but coloring him is so tedious :sob: ) and ive never had a riverclan kitty before so i think that’d be interesting to explore when i saw him, i immediately had a bunch of character ideas, which almost never happens for me, so i figured i should apply and here we are haha <3

❛ description of appearance ❜
⇢ appearing to have been borne of ocean and all that lies beneath its unknown depths, splashkit is a tomcat of mystery. although gifted with medium-length feathers of fur, his waterproof locks cascade down his height of 10.4 inches in a manner akin to the fluctuations of a waterfall. born without the full length of a tail to drag behind him, splashkit remains owner to a bob of wisps so soft yet versatile underneath water’s influence. covered in a pelt of an early winter evening, the colorful expanse across this kitten’s body stays within the confines of ocean-hued blue, varying from the color of its deep depths to the lightest surface saturation. with an expression of indifference, it seems nothing can escape the confines of splashkit’s carefully fabricated facade, but what seems out of place on this felidae are the strikingly colored eyes placed on this enigma’s face. the color of the beginning of autumn, his eyes are warm and expose snippets of things he does not intend others to see, cursed with irises that betray him at every turn. this feline, however, remains a conundrum — might you be the one to unravel him?

— analysis : cats with bobtails are felines that, besides having a shortened tail, can pretty much do everything someone with a full tail could. the random genetic mutation doesn’t affect those with it in their day-to-day lives, although it could lead to several health problems later in life, such as spine deformities, arthritis, hyperthyroidism, and other diseases — these, however, are not guaranteed to develop in old age; splash may not ever gain any health problems from having a bobtail. cats with shortened tails won’t have any excessive balance problems, and can function as well as any other cat.

( little note ; there isn’t much on genetically declawed cats, so the information i acquired isn’t a lot :’D )
— analysis : cats being born without claws is a rare genetic anomaly that isn’t frequently seen in cats, but can happen. felines who lack claws will face some difficulties in their lives, such as the inability to hunt prey with them, or climb things they may have previously been able to climb. his paw pads would likely be more softer than most, and suppressing the urge to scratch things can be solved with biting on a stick for the same liberation. splash would need to find other alternatives to using his claws in activities such as hunting and fighting, but such solutions shouldn’t be too difficult to create.

⇢ atelophobia —
— what it is : the fear of imperfection
— analysis : splash’s atelophobia will develop from feelings of inadequacy; it’ll originate from the acknowledgement of his lack of claws, and then fester further into self-deprecation as he grows and realizes what a problem it can cause for him. being surrounded by cats he sees as “perfect” or at least, compared to him, will be another reason as to why his atelophobia is so severe, although the phobia doesn’t directly stem from anything, but is only furthered by these factors. it will lead to the general feeling of being insufficient, and will affect him in his daily life. he’ll avoid scenarios and situations that could lead to failure; someone pointing out a flaw or giving any criticism will be seen as a personal attack, as he feels like splash’s imperfection is being noted and admonished. he’ll be more hesitant to develop relationships beyond basic friendships because after a certain point of commitment, the relationship will feel more like a burden and the cat will feel like another person he has to please. he’ll be better at keeping his worries at bay with felines he isn’t close to, as he reasons that he shouldn’t care about their opinions. being a phobia, his fears are, of course, irrational, but very real to him. the idea of failing someone alone is enough to stress him out — hence why he avoids situations that can lead to failure — and if he does take a risk and fail, it can lead to panic attacks and reclusion. therefore, splash is careful with who he chooses to get close to, and getting closer to someone will prompt feelings of inadequacy at times. along with this, he’ll spend a lot of time over-analyzing things, to the point of near fiction. while he’ll become better at delegating the thoughts to night time at the very least, they’ll always lurk in the back of his mind; especially during his apprenticeship, splash will feel excessively insecure as he is taught to live like a warrior while — in his eyes — being barely a cat. in response to his atelophobia, he’ll overcompensate with being overly chipper and charming; he hides behind a facade of ease and exuberance, attempting to hide all of the inner turmoil that even he knows is ridiculous, but does not remove any of the pressure he feels. splash will insist on doing everything himself, disliking the notion of being a burden almost as much as the idea of being a failure burdens him. eventually he’ll master the art of repressing the thoughts in the light of day, but at night they can attack him, which will result in burnouts at times. inside splash’s head is a raging storm of thoughts and emotions, but, unfortunately, he has no outlet to express it.

⸝⸝ splash makes it his mission to make every cat who meets his acquaintance love him — he’s a people-pleaser and will do almost anything to be liked, as it provides a sense of acceptance for him and a relief from his worries. he’ll compliment you, cheer you up, make you his friend, et cetera, in attempts to win your favor, and — most of the time — will treat you automatically with respect and friendliness. being charming, for splash, is a source of adequacy, but can prove less than great once he receives your affection. he treats most like an item to be obtained, and to be his cheerleaders; once you show your liking of him, he’ll forget about you and move on to the next interesting thing. he doesn’t mean to be callous or cruel, but he simply doesn’t find you as intriguing anymore once he discovers what lies beneath the ‘mystery’ of you. those who prove to be a constant enigma, however, are what constantly pique his interest.

⸝⸝ splash is a very hard-headed cat, and is set in his opinions and views. once he chooses something, he’ll remain steadfast for as long as possible, believing that being finicky is a major flaw and refusing to add another imperfection to his seemingly long list. in result of this, however, he’s a very loyal cat and will remain standing by someone or something to the very end, which can be a good or bad thing. good, because it means that he’ll stand with you and defend you through tough times no matter what, and will refuse to see fault in you. it could be bad, however, because if the person or idea he’s standing behind isn’t right, he’ll still spend a lot of time and energy defending it, regardless of its morality. splash will go to great lengths for whoever or whatever he deems worthy of his allegiance, so the sentiment should be taken seriously; his loyalty combined with his lack of defined morals are a pair to be reckoned with.

⸝⸝ splash is, at times, extravagantly bombarded with feelings of inadequacy because of his atelophobia, so at night when the insecurities creep in, he’ll return to his fantasies. he’ll make up little stories in his head and plan them out, exploring the paths of fate his characters could have and growing attached to the figments of imagination he has. the stories will range from daringly epic adventures to sweet love fictions, and, while not being shared with others, will be a big part of his nighttime activities. splash will turn to these things to ignore his other worries and attempt to tire himself out. sometimes they work, or at the very least hold the anxieties off, hence why the practice is repeated over and over. being a ‘dreamer’, essentially, he’ll sometimes space out; he’ll also seek out activities and cats who will prove as distractions from his overbearing reality, and essentially be “fantastical” in his mind, therefore separating the fiction from reality in his mind and allowing him to be more at ease. however, splash can get absorbed by these fantasies and sometimes be unable to separate them from reality, causing a problem. he’ll constantly seek them out in times of stress, and ignore the root of his problems as a result.

⸝⸝ splash, despite his exuberant front, does not trust others easily. he may give you insights into his life, grant you snippets in order to keep you interested and unquestioning, but receiving more than that is not something that happens often. one needs to show a lot of differing qualities in order to be deemed worthy of his thoughts. opening himself up does not come easily to him, and as his life goes on he’ll become a more and more reserved feline because it means being vulnerable, and that is something he hates to be. he’s often suspicious of those who demonstrate empathy and benevolence easily, and finds those who — quite hypocritically — are overly exuberant to be fake unless he knows them well and can see that they genuinely feel these emotions. after a lifetime of facades and masks, splash sometimes doesn’t know when to let his walls down, which makes it hard for him to believe in others and their supposedly good intentions, making him quick to jump to the worst conclusions and easily fall into feuds over miscommunication.

⸝⸝ despite being sensitive to feedback himself, splash is a naturally judgmental cat. after spending quite a while berating himself for existing, he’s perfected the art of criticism that cannot be denied. unfortunately, he doesn’t see these as insults — which, in the way he words them, are — and will not hesitate to inform you of a flaw in attempts to help you improve. he believes he’s being constructive, and so he’ll be rather critical, especially if your asking him for his opinion. with cats he’s close to, he’ll be even more so until they tell him they don’t like it, as he doesn’t notice others’ dislike for his ‘helpful’ commentary on his own. if your a particularly negative acquaintance of splash’s, he won’t hesitate to utilize the flaws he’s seen you exhibit to demean you and get back at you for slighting him, as he doesn’t take well to being offended.

⇢ imaginary friends? —
— i think, to tie in with his ‘escapist’ trait, it’d be interesting for splash to have imaginary friends through his kithood and mid- to late-apprenticeship. when he would be feeling particularly stressed, he’d probably make up conversations with them — either in his head or out loud — to talk through his worries. they’d act as a therapeutic relief from reality, but eventually fade away as he gets older and realizes that they don’t exist and / or that he’s too old to vent to imaginary felines. he’d befriend them and create genuine friendship bonds ( probably oorp to not make them seem like actual characters ), but wouldn’t feel the pressure of being perfect for them, which would be a relief.
⇢ someone who starts his insecurity —
— perhaps someone important in splash’s life who makes a big deal of his declawment? not in an overtly negative way but more like they continuously fuss over him and make a big deal of him not having claws, which would probably be a big turning point in the start of his atelophobia / the general feeling of being inadequate. especially if it’s someone he cares about, them reacting to the mutation in that manner will make him think he’s at an disadvantage that makes him ‘weaker’, too.
