…They mean the red hacked block, not the custom block colors, that's vastly different.

Ignore this being a cat block, but for those unaware, THIS is what they mean.

It's probably possible to JSON-shenanigan your way to doing it.

No, they don't. The text in the OP said “We've all seen the red hat block. But… a blue one???” and then they had a blue “hat” block.

I would say they mean the custom block from 2.0, but didn't know it wasn't a hat block since it does pretty much look like the red block.

It most likely isn't - Scratch's source code has no block defined that is blue (aside from the Motion blocks).

Why does red work then?

Could you theoretically make a variables hat block sense there's an orange block defined in the code?

ah

pretty sure red is just used as a placeholder - Changing the “looks_nextbackdrop” OPCODE for example to “looks_previousbackdrop” results in this.

The red hat block is essentially the “default” state of a block; if a block fails to initialize properly (for example, if it tries to load a nonexistent block, causing it to not run any initialization code) it becomes it.

No, because there is no orange hat block defined in the code.

(In case you don't know: in Scratch, blocks are essentially predefined in the code; you cannot simply just create new blocks just by JSON hacking. The exception to this is blocks that modify themselves using stored data, like anything related to custom blocks; though they are made to only modify their text/inputs, you can't hack a custom block to change its color for example)

Yes, but I think they were just confused after they had heard about the red block, then saw this in the dropdown and assumed it was a hat block.

Maybe we should ask them.

Well there I massively apologize the confusion! I assumed the 2.0 custom block as a hat block for giving reference. Forgive me for making the mass confusion.
Anyways, the blue hat blocked could potentially exist imo because I've seen people using scripts in 3.0 to create blocks like the red hat block.
