Happy Pi Day!

Happy Pi Day, everyone!

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (Pi)! It is celebrated every year on March 14th since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of Pi. Celebrations often involve eating pie and reciting the many digits of Pi, among other things.

We invite you to celebrate by making projects related to Pi on Scratch! If you are looking for ways to celebrate, you might consider:
  • Create a card to wish others a Happy Pi Day!
  • Animate a Pi-related party
  • Create a tutorial to help others learn about Pi
  • Design a project that allows others to decorate a pie
  • Create a game that allows others to guess what digit of Pi comes next
  • Design a Pi(e) clicker game
  • Create a puzzle that includes the number 3, 1, and 4 or the symbol π

Remember, these are only suggestions! You can come up with your own ideas or take inspiration from some of the amazing projects made in past years (see here and here). See below to learn more about Pi and Pi Day.

Who started Pi Day?
It was founded in 1988 by Larry Shaw, an employee of the Exploratorium (a museum of science, technology, and arts in San Francisco, CA). Celebrations often involve eating pie or holding Pi recitation competitions.
