format buttons missing?

They might have failed to load, as the format buttons are loaded in with a bit of JavaScript. Try reloading maybe?

They are still gone and I've been switching from topic to topic a lot, yet they are still gone.

Do you have any extensions (related to scratch or not), could you also tell your browser?

If you have extensions, disable them all and try then, then try them one by one to find out which one causes it if they are visible with all extensions disabled.

I use chrome and no extensions are installed. It was always working for me yesterday and I didn't install any extensions recently.

Hmmmmm.

This might be an issue with Chrome - Could you try another browser? It works fine for me here (on Firefox)

Try using a different browser or just wait a while. Maybe clear the cache and restart whatever you can as well.
