It kinda reminds me of those early ancient scientists saying there were only four elements…

Paddle said we should snip our quotes (or as I like to call it, “crashing the quote trains”) if they were getting too long.

I love that lol
I don't think anybody needs to master more than one genre, of course
But it is funny to say “four genres”
But actually in the classical world there's four kinds of solo songs
Pop songs, theatre songs, arias, and art songs

Oh you're right
I hate that she bans people for typing a lot even when it's on topic and civil and right
*he and you won't get banned for any of the stuff that's going on now. the topic would get closed because we're having a big argument, and I do agree we're going overboard with our discussion of the quality of artists. instead of discussing negative qualities, why don't we discuss positive qualities? especially with the post that started this argument, we're kinda just shooting down others' music tastes here. plus, if this gets closed I'm fairly certain we can make a new one and learn our lesson. I don't want a flame war.

I don't understand why negativity is so frowned upon. In a lot of ways, the quality of an artist is in their flaws. I think it's silly to ignore flaws, and even sillier to avoid talking about them. And especially when people aren't really arguing. Because from my perspective it was not really an argument.

The way it was being presented at some points in this conversation could offend some people. Take “0/10 music taste” for example. That would offend me to hell because music is one of the things I love most, and I would assume people that are active or even post at all on this topic would share a similar love for music, though maybe not as strong. Most of the points you brought up were fairly reasonable and not 100% opinion based.

I do absolutely agree with you, however this may not be the best place as this thread is for discussing music you like, not discussing music you dislike. If you're (in this context, you means everyone in general, not you specifically) going to do that, then don't aim it at a specific person, because that's generally just a bit of a (donkey)hole thing to do. Everyone is entitled to discuss their own music taste without being put down for it.
TL;DR discussing flaws isn't bad but that's not what this topic is for.

I think that you're right that some negativity is just unwarranted. Even if I hate something other people in the world like it. I might say somebody has shallow horizons if, say, they only listen to video game parody songs, but I would not tell them their taste is a value less than that of rodent excriment, which at least fetches a nonzero price in certain farmers' markets.
I will say, though, in discussing music I and others like, I will point out flaws very often. I don't think there's a thing wrong with stating my opinion on what somebody likes. If I were to say “OH I JUST HATE THIS ONE PERSON” out of nowhere, that'd be different, of course. I also want to point out that technically the title of the forum isn't “What music do you like?” but rather “What music are you listening to” and I feel it's completely alright to discuss music in any light here.
