I used to be into edm/dubstep around 2019/2020 but the scene isn't nearly as large so I lost interest. i only really listen to rap is because I get inspired by the beats and use them as inspiration for my own productions and I just really like the sound of rock, mostly pop punk/alt rock
Same except with kpop to Dubstep. My older sis got me into it but then as I got into NCS then monstercat I lot interest cause I got into more melody kinds instead of lyrical kinds. Which is why I find just the singing boring.
yeah I used to be into a lot of monstercat stuff, mostly monstercat instinct. i havent heard a kpop song for years so I think kpop fell off. unless its still big? idk. but yeah I really just focus on melodies and stuff over lyrical content or lyrical quality.
Yeah. Kpop is actually still relevant in some yt shorts like cupid or seven days a week. But kpop is kinda a fad now and is now a closed fandom.
thank god

If a song has lyrics, I worry about the lyrics, too
But some genres, like opera, you don't need to worry so much about the lyrics
But in, like, musical theatre
And especially modern pop music
It's more about the lyrics than the melodies and rhythms

100% percent agreed. i really hate it(and if you do this my apologies, this is just my opinion) when people just like the song but don't even pay attention to the lyrics. like the lyrics, imo, are the most important part of the song. which is usually why i don't listen to love songs, bc either they are REALLY cringe or the lyrics are…questionable.

Fanfic sites ruined love kind of things to me. Before it was all “Aww a couple!” Now it's just “LET'S HEAR BIRDS” to me and is the reason why I feel like I might be aro/ace. (which I'm not cause my parents are queerphobic but it's just better to show than tell)

Also one time we were at a restaurant and there was this rap song which was very and I mean very questionable. My ears were in misery.

in pop songs, yes i agree the lyrics are more important than the instrumental. however for me when i listen to rap or hip hop mainly I'm trying to pick up on little details and the overall rhythm, the melodies, the bass, etc, because I produce beats and i don't really need to listen to flows/wordplay because that's not the kind of music i make. i agree on love songs though, most of them are very corny

restaurants are not really good for rap music IMO. its better at parties, by yourself, or another situation. restaurants are what pop music and easy listening music is for

fr bro with songs at restaurants it's either you get a banger song or a really questionable one.

I’m going to be honest I listen to quite a lot of songs with bizarre/cringy lyrics, but it doesn’t impact the way I feel about the song overall if it’s just the odd few lyrics, becuase I can just laugh at it and move on, if that makes sense. I suppose I don’t really take my music seriously enough to get bothered by it, if that makes any sense. Like, the stupid lyrics are sort of all part of it.

That's one hot take. At least in this topic.

somewhat agree. a questionable bar is funny if its not trying to be serious but if the artist actually thought saying something cringe was gonna go hard then its just embarrassing.

In some music, it's acceptable
But the lyrics and music have to work together, if there are lyrics
In pop music, the music is often the background of the music
That's not really ideal
Listen to the song “Old Friends” from Merrily We Roll Along, perfect example of music and lyrics both being pretty ple but working flawlessly together
Now, in opera, the music should convey the emotion of the lyrics but ultimately dominate them
