A New Scratch Logo!

Here is my idea for a new Scratch logo!

1. The main version:

This logo would be used on Scratch's Social Media accounts, like YouTube and Twitter.
This version would also be used on the Join Scratch page, Android app, and the “Welcome to Scratch!” email.
2. The Horizontal Version:

This version would be used on the website navbar and the Scratch 3.0 Offline Editor.
3. The Print Version:

This logo would be used for merch in the Scratch Store.
edit: added better mockups

A New Scratch Logo!

Why
The new one takes up space
And the current one is still fine

I'm pretty sure the logo is copyrighted and thus hard to change.
Also, why do we need a new one? The current one works fine and is too iconic.

I mean, the current one does it's job quite well. Also, the scratch team's youtube icon is basically just your first suggestion. All of the suggested logos would also take up quite alot of space, so not really any support from me.

I don't really believe the logo requires any more changing; it would just make it more complex

Apologies if I'm rude but I feel like this would be going from 3.0 to 1.x; I feel as the Youtube profile is good enough.

I honestly believe that although this is a small change (You can get the vector of the logo by right-clicking the icon in the nav-bar, by the way) I honestly don't think it's really neccasary or something.

It'd make the navbar abit… Stretched.

No support.

Might as well censor scratch cat too while we're at it.

I don't think what gdfs did was censoring, but rather the age-old pixelization of bitmap images when scaled up.

How about you give us 3-5 reasons why we need to change the logo.

1) It uses a copyrighted font
2) It uses a copyrighted font
3) It uses a copyrighted font
4) It uses a copyrighted font
5) It uses a copyrighted font

Jokes aside, the fact that the current Scratch logo uses a copyrighted font with… an iffy name certainly helps. However, we would need to change the font and teamsonic didn't do that in their mockups.

It actually is trademarked but I do not know how difficult it is to change a trademark logo.

A purported intellectual property attoruney on Quora wrote:

You really never HAVE to register a trademark, at least not in the U.S. Whether you should is a different question.

As far as changing your trademarked logo, if it's a variation you probably don't need to do anything. If it's entirely new, then it makes sense to at least consider a new registration.

For example. Let's say you're Sugar (Honey) Smacks https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey_Smacks and you're just changing your mascot from one iteration of Dig'em the frog to another. They're probably close enough that a new registration is a waste of money. If ine the other hand, you're moving from a clown to the frog, that's probably different enough to warrant a new registration.

When my clients want to change logos or names j suggest the use both the new and the old ones for a while; either to transition or to preserve the old one I case they decide to go back to it (which I've had happen).

Of course, since this is Quora (and Quora's well known for… mixed-accuracy answers to say the least), no one knows if it's true or not.

I mean, the vertical Scratch cat's head would get out of the header and as such the font would need to be scaled.
Scaling the font would make it already hard to read for some and as such wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing. If just the font was changed ( as others pointed out, it's protected by copyright ) it would be way better ( for the reasons stated above )

Why would the Scratch Cat need to be black instead of orange on Scratch store merch.
