I would like to receive emails when I get Scratch messages. I don't like visiting the site just to see the message count, and I would like to see messages on my phone, too.

A simple solution would be to just send emails to a user when they receive messages.

This would be an option, and disabled by default. You would have an option to seet if you receive emails for each type of messages. There would also be an option to send a daily email with all the messages instead.

Pros:

• Easier to know about your messages
  
• Great for smaller Scratchers
  
• Read messages on your phone or anywhere you can access email
  
• No need to visit the site to read messages
  

Cons:

• Sending this many emails could cause server issues
  
• Can cause spam for larger Scratchers - but it's toggleable

But not just to read and see if it's worth it to log in and reply.

I actually know of a site that done this before, except I cannot say it because of multiple reasons (no filter, etc…) (Plus that site wasn't nonprofit and had ads and counted as a type of social media)
I do think this could be useful if you could configure it all, even if i'd turn it all off because of flashbacks.
Although that'd be quite alot of engineering work.

Sometimes a child who has a Scratch account uses their parent's email address for the account since the child themselves does not have an email. In the event that the child wants to be annoying and turn on email-messages, their parent will get all the emails, and it would be difficult for the parent to turn off this setting if the child refuses to do so.

Hmm, maybe find a way to make it possible to unsubscribe without logging in? Like having the unsubscribe button automatically send an email with the subject line “unsubscribe me” or similar, and having a bot process these requests?

I thought of that too, but then what's to stop the child from turning email-messages back on again?

Make it so you have to confirm your email if you want to turn it on.
