Suggestion: What if the Scratch team files a complaint to Tinypic? Instead of blacklisting Tinypic, we might potentially fix the problem from its source (and save many of the current images on Scratch from destruction )
Requoted so that Scratch team might see this.
“Hey you, stop running ads that you need to make enough money to survive on your site. We blocked all image hosts except yours for some reason, and now our users don't want to see ads when uploading pictures.”
Requoted so you might see this
I never said, “stop running advertisements altogether,” I meant “moderate the advertisements to filter out the malicious ones.”
That would take time and effort, neither of which tinypic is obligated to put into this. It would also lose them a lot of ad revenue since the malware ads are numerous enough to cause a problem for the users of this site. I don't think they'd do anything even if asked.
Can't we tell them that some of the ads that they are showing are malicious? And if tinypic refuses to take them down, then we will stop using tinypic as a host!
But would they care?
Then say that they are the most commonly used image host on the Scratch website!
Why would they care about that, though?
TBH, I completely agree with that.

well, tinypic doesn't seem all that bad. you can still close most of the ads and the rest don't interfere with the function of the website.

and I bet no one has read their privacy policy yet:
Third-party advertisements displayed on TinyPic Services may also contain cookies set by Internet advertising companies or advertisers. TinyPic does not control these cookies and Users of the TinyPic Services should check the privacy policy of the Internet advertising company or advertiser to see whether and how it uses cookies. See the “Notice” section below for more information on third-party advertising.

You can program your computer to warn you each time a cookie is being sent, block third party cookies or block all cookies. However, by blocking all cookies you may not have access to certain features on the TinyPic Services.

TinyPic Services may be linked to Internet sites operated by other companies. TinyPic Services may also carry advertisements from other companies. TinyPic is not responsible for the privacy practices of websites operated by third parties that are linked to or integrated with the TinyPic Services or for the privacy practices of third-party Internet advertising companies. Once you leave TinyPic Services via such a link, or by clicking on an advertisement, you should check the applicable privacy policy of the third party or advertiser site to determine how they will handle any PII they collect from you.
tl;dr they can't do anything about their ads.

you either deal with it or use a different image hosting website.

Well it looks like this topic is heating up… Why can't we just upload images to scratch in embedded codes that open up to images without adds on the scratch website. We can make it like the you tube player in scratch.

That's not exactly a glowing recommendation, I must admit
Lemme put Google's report into clearer words.

Google last found malware on tinypic almost a month ago. They found 31 Trojans and 1 scripting exploit. A scripting exploit is designed to exploit flash or your browser in order to infect your computer with spyware or other malicious software. Google also claims that tinypic has hosted malware within the last 90 days, however it then goes on to override this with it's latest report. Perhaps someone could suggest this to these guys to write about? They have the tech and machines that they can infect, and I don't want to infect my brand new Windows 10 virtual machine just yet.

Yeah, the latter of the two options sounds better; use cubeupload.

Also, Tinypic could just overhaul their whole advertising scheme; replacing it with ads by Google, which is waaayyy more monitored than what they have now.

…and be exploited by Doubleclick exploits and have tracking cookies placed on our devices?

I'm aware of that unfortunate incident…
But at least Google tries to be responsible for their advertising content (unlike Tinypic over here.)
I think I'm going to change my signature now to anti-Tynipic propaganda…

Scripting exploit? WHAT THE-?
This is bad dangerous unacceptable. DOWN WITH TINYPIC.

I support Tinypic's ads being replaced by Google ads.

This is out of Scratch's control though. A few Scratchers on a distant site isn't gonna change a massive company's code and policies. They probably use that third party ad agency because they pay the most cash. In the end, they care more about the money than the end user.

Yikes. This is getting way off topic…

Thanks for the heads up on Tinypic. I've run this by the Scratch Team. We'll make updates accordingly.

Awesome! Maybe it would be a good idea to send an alert out in the “Scratch News” urging telling people to switch their image host.

Thanks for your response! What sort of updates do you have in mind? Will you consider advising against using tinypic, or will you remove it from the white-list? Thanks!
