Down With Tinypic!
That made me LOL so hard. You can't assume what I did and didn't read.@VoltageGames why are you encouraging this dangerous website in your signature? I know you're free to put whatever you want there but if you even read the first page of this topic, you'd know what a horrible website you are supporting.Do you even know what a mutiny is.What do you mean by that? the itopic for bbcode help was changed to reflect the topics paranoid accusations anyway, i don't know why you guys are still arguing about stuff
Oh, I see it. Well, so be it! We are spreading the word of the Tinypic mutiny!
Seriously.
I read the 1st post, like everyone else, before replying.
I also make a post about how I've never gotten a virus, a cruddy ad for bad stuff, or anything else the OP mentions.
I have just as much right to advertise tinypic as you had to advertise cubeupload.
And I'm going to mention here that I've seen peeps on this thread make cubeupload tests, but all I see are little squares that you see when an image is broken. So if everyone on Scratch moves over to cubeupload I'll never be able to see another picture on Scratch again lmbo.

Called MIT.Are there any lawyer scratchers we can count on?So what. You can sue them for abusing the minds of children as tiny pic is supposed to be family safe. That would take time and effort, neither of which tinypic is obligated to put into this. It would also lose them a lot of ad revenue since the malware ads are numerous enough to cause a problem for the users of this site. I don't think they'd do anything even if asked.I never said, “stop running advertisements altogether,” I meant “moderate the advertisements to filter out the malicious ones.”Suggestion: What if the Scratch team files a complaint to Tinypic? Instead of blacklisting Tinypic, we might potentially fix the problem from its source (and save many of the current images on Scratch from destruction )Requoted so that Scratch team might see this.“Hey you, stop running ads that you need to make enough money to survive on your site. We blocked all image hosts except yours for some reason, and now our users don't want to see ads when uploading pictures.”Requoted so you might see this
Sarcasm doesn't work on the net. Yeah I was joking

i seriously don't see why there's this push for an absolute removal of tinypic as an image host. the only reason i've come across is that tinypic has ads (which is laughable, lots of sites need ads to continue running), that the ads, and therefore the website could possible feature unsavory content (which could really just apply to any website on the internet), and that the ads could possibly infect your computer (which is an issue that some sites with ads have had to deal with, and do deal with. i have no doubt that if tinypic actually had malicious ads and this was reported to the site owners they would see to remove the malicious ads).
so with so much of this argument riding on ads, i decided to temporarily disable adblock and look at cubeupload, imageshack, photobucket, and tinypic.
turns out the only website without ads on its front page is imageshack. that's right, even cubeupload isn't safe, apparently.

CubeUpload uses Google ads, which is slightly better seeing as Google ‘somewhat’ moderates them. Your not getting the side banner on tinypic for some reason. That is where the malware stuff comes from.
Well how come my PC picked up traces of malware in that banner ad? It may have just been a coincidence that I got it. Have you even ran a scan lately? I also make a post about how I've never gotten a virus, a cruddy ad for bad stuff, or anything else the OP mentions.

Hmm it seems people are misunderstanding what's going on. I don't want this to become a flame war (ahem, @VoltageGames especially, but also a lot of people on this thread, respectful language please) so I'd like to clarify some things.
If you are OK with tinypic, go ahead and keep using it. We aren't trying to stop you. However what you should not be doing is promoting tinypic as a good image host, because it's not. It's dangerous, especially for amateur Scratchers. Promote cubeupload instead.
- Even with Adblock, tinypic still forces you to watch commercials for ITS CAPTCHAS. That's unacceptable.
- Tinypic randomly opens tabs that may lead to malicious sites. This is really annoying, and seems to be intentional by tinypic because it only seems to happen to me when I click the choose file or submit button. People have reported that these tabs attempt to get them to download software that looks like a virus (general rule of thumb: if something advertises itself as “PC Cleaner” or something, it's a virus.)
- Tinypic's ads may not be safe for younger children, especially because they may not have Adblock. They depict drinking and can also link to viruses.
- Cubeupload has ONE AD on its homepage that doesn't try to interfere with UI flow, a lot less annoying than tinypic's commercial CAPTCHAS and randomly opening tabs
- Cubeupload works perfectly for everyone (except @VoltageGames, hmmm…seems legit)

Lol you used Tinypic to upload those images. xD perfect & fitting for the convo. xD
@VoltageGames - yeah, all I see are little white squares too. You can drag them to the top of your browser (in a new tab) to see the image though. But if I had to do that for every image on the site… uh… yeah…

seriously, will you stop sounding so rude? It's like you think I'm arrogant and you're laughing at it. And I already “apologized” for calling it a mutiny. And it has been acted upon.1. Tinypic has to be an authority for it to be a mutiny.A mutiny is overthrowing a certain person or group of authority. We are overthrowing tinypic as our image provider.Do you even know what a mutiny is.What do you mean by that? the itopic for bbcode help was changed to reflect the topics paranoid accusations anyway, i don't know why you guys are still arguing about stuff

Seriously.
And keep a respectful tone in your internet voice (be respectful to others and don't say stuff like “do you even” or “seriously”). When I read that, it almost sounded rude.
2. You have to be a worker in Tinypic for it to be a mutiny.
Lol.

Out of curiosity, does CubeUpload work here yet? I may switch over my images to there from Photobucket.
No I don't make projects anymore. I left some time ago.
I only check the forums every now and then, but other than that consider me retired.

Yes, it does. We should start using it now. Out of curiosity, does CubeUpload work here yet? I may switch over my images to there from Photobucket.
What browser are you using? Cubeupload images work fine for me on Win7 Chrome and iOS Safari. @VoltageGames - yeah, all I see are little white squares too. You can drag them to the top of your browser (in a new tab) to see the image though. But if I had to do that for every image on the site… uh… yeah…

I really don't see why the pro-tinypic people will continue using tinypic just because it's there when there's a better option with less ads and no capchas and popups.

Cubeupload has one ad whereas tinypic has like, 5 ads and they're used for CAPTCHAS and are constantly opening up new tabs and depicting drinking alcohol. i seriously don't see why there's this push for an absolute removal of tinypic as an image host. the only reason i've come across is that tinypic has ads (which is laughable, lots of sites need ads to continue running), that the ads, and therefore the website could possible feature unsavory content (which could really just apply to any website on the internet), and that the ads could possibly infect your computer (which is an issue that some sites with ads have had to deal with, and do deal with. i have no doubt that if tinypic actually had malicious ads and this was reported to the site owners they would see to remove the malicious ads).

Thanks for all the good information and suggestions. Because of the concerns you brought forward, we are de-emphasizing the use of Tinypic. We're putting warnings up in documents where we mention that the site accepts it. If you know of places in Scratch or in the Forums where we mention it as an option, please bring it to my attention so we can add warnings.
I don't think it makes sense to remove it from the whitelist though. We have a *lot* of links to the site in our forum posts - removing the site from the whitelist would be incredibly annoying when those posts were edited.
Gonna bump this and then close the topic - I think all the valid points have been made, if anybody cares to scan through the topic. If you come across areas in Scratch where Tinypic is still being promoted, please use the Report feature on this topic to let me know.
Cubeupload.com seems to be the best place to use currently.
Scratch Wiki editors: Perhaps the wiki would be another good place to list acceptable image hosting sites for Scratch?

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.
