((Harry Potter doesn't explain much about what History of Magic teaches, so this book is not canon and only relates to my studio for its lore.))
Year 1
Gargoyle Strike of 1911 - Lesson 1
The Gargoyle strike of 1911 was a strike that caused more damaged than what most people imagined. Gargoyle statues are used in both the Wizarding world AND the Muggle world, used to scare away intruders, Gargoyle statues in the Wizarding world are important to ensure that intruders are scared by the statues, but if the intruder continues pass the Gargoyle statue it will alert the building about the intruder. This could happen because they were sentient thanks to a bit of magic.
One day, a specific castle - Drocolof Castle, a historic castle full of history were destroying some of these statues that they decided were not intimidating enough, to the horror of the Gargoyle statues, so they Gargoyle Statues decided to do a wildcat strike, where they would stop working completely in peaceful protest. However, this still didn't work as the wizards and witches decided if the Gargoyle Statues could not do their job, they'd all have to be destroyed.
The Gargoyle Statues were not about to let this happen however, they quickly fought back to defend themselves. It was one huge battle and some are even going as far to call it a small war. The battle wasn't exactly one-sided either, the Gargoyles were surprisingly actually stronger than they looked and were doing well in terms of combat. Drocolof Castle quickly had to call the Ministry of Magic for help and instead of trying to understand what was happening, they instantly sided with the wizards and witches destroying all of the Gargoyles within the castle.
A few years later 1920, a more proper investigation was done and the Ministry of Magic decided to pass a new law that sentient objects cannot be created without approval from the Ministry.
The eyeglass repair charm((Occulus Reparo)) is a charm that is used specifically on glass, it even works on magical glass as well. You move your wand in a spiral while saying the incantation((Occulus Reparo)) and you will be able to fix glass from now on.
The Unforgivable Curses - Lesson 2
In the 14th century, a group of Dark Wizards were trying to gain power, but to the Ministry of Magic, this was just another small group acting out of hand. So they sent Aurors to deal with these Dark Wizards. However, out of desperation one of the wizards created the first Unforgivable curse. Imperio. These wizards used Imperio to their advantage, allowing them to take full control against a few Aurors. This form of Dark magic was just the beginning however.
The Ministry soon realized this group's potential and sent more Aurors on it, once again the Dark Wizards were on the run, until one of them created Crucio, a spell causing a ton of pain for a period of time. The Ministry was starting to lose, it became a war. The Ministry sent some of their best Aurors and created a new spell. Prior Incantato, a spell that helped you see the wand's most recently used spell and anybody who used these spells were sent to Azkaban for life. Soon, Avada Kedevra was made, used to completely wipe out your opponents.
The Ministry was now desperate. They were sending all of their Aurors towards this war, fighting these Dark Wizards. Soon, they had to ask an ancient group of wizards for help, these wizards succeeded in ending the war as they had a hold of ancient magic. How this happened is still unknown.
A few years later, in the 18th century more of these wizards and witches were using the unforgivable curses. The Ministry realized another war could break out so they passed a new law that you cannot use the Unforgivable curses or you'll go to Azkaban for life.
To cast Prior Incantato you move your wand to form a type of wand in a way, you flick your wand and loop the wand while saying the incantation to successfully cast this spell.
The History of Magical Beasts - Part 1 - Lesson 3
Around 2500 BCE(the oldest fossil found) was where the first Magical Beasts could be found. According to found art we can find that there was once a wizard - or witch who had powerful magic, the location is identified to be Mesopotamia. This witch or wizard(according to art) appears to have conjured a Bowtruckle on a tree, which is one of magical society's greatest mysteries, as according to the 5 Exceptions to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration, you cannot conjure a living being, at least not properly. It is also theorized that the witch or wizard did not just conjure the Bowtruckle, but managed to Transform the tree and then conjure small basic parts of a Bowtruckle, and then the Bowtruckle evolved and got more intelligent through time. This seems more realistic and possible, however it is simply a theory. Around that same time period, it can be seen that the same witch or wizard is getting praised by what can be assumed as Muggles, the witch or wizard is drawn in great detail while the Muggles are drawn hastily with little to no effort made. It can be seen that a witch or wizard appears to be opening some kind of portal and all kinds of magical beasts such as less evolved Pixies, yet more evolved beasts like Hippogriffs can be seen. The Pixies are small, while the Hippogriffs are stronger, faster, and bigger by how they appear. Now this should be impossible, the closest we've seen to traveling to other worlds are Floo Powder, Portkeys, and apparition, however it is theorized that this might be the first witch or wizard and that they have the power of all the magic. This answer does not satisfy many historians and research is still ongoing today. So Muggles would fight magical beasts, some to near extinction like the great Hippogriffs, or tiny trolls(they were slightly bigger than humans and ate plants and small animals instead). There is also evidence of a second witch or wizard in Egypt who is known for creating books on theories and basics of magic(a completely separate topic covered later). Soon some of the beasts like Hippogriffs appeared to slowly evolve into smaller beasts to have better flight from humans while Pixies grew stronger to better combat the Muggles, which awakens a new war. The Muggle vs. Magical Beasts War.
The Muggle vs. Magical Beasts War - Part 2 - Lesson 4
The Muggle vs. Magical Beasts War is a period of time in which Beasts and Muggles would fight among each other. Muggles would go hunting for these beasts and were winning for a short amount of time, the first magical person(unconfirmed gender, same witch or wizard from last lesson) was unhappy with this, and according to art appeared to have strengthened all of the magical beasts abilities(which is the first record of modern-day Pixies) and with a bit of evidence thanks to more art, the magical person might've opened a portal up where a depiction of a dragon can be seen, these dragons appeared a lot more bigger than modern-day dragons and Muggles started to lose, the dragons would attack their camps at night, creating chaos. The beasts were a lot more better at surviving and overcame entire camps of Muggles, the beasts spread out, hunting Muggles, until the Wizard or witch from Egypt helped create better technology and helped with the war, becoming a full out war. Art can be seen of giant trolls(a lot bigger, modern-day trolls appear smaller), and dragons being overcome by what appears to be a much more advanced and stronger Incendio(even Fiendfyre isn't as power as this depicted Incendio, which supports the theory that these wizards or witches might've had access to incredible unknown magic) which defeated an untold amount of beasts. It is important to note that some creatures appear to either be in hiding, or extinct, as there is art of Muggle facing a giant goop-like creature, that resembles an octopus, there was also a horse that could have spikes grow around its body and it has sharp teeth, there was also a purple like creature that could corrupt humans to its will, it took the form of a huge eagle with spikes on the back(weirdly, there was only one of this creature and potential evidence of it being able to speak the human tongue as well.), however after research, it was confirmed that this creature was nothing more than a myth. Overtime, it was clear that the Beasts managed to win, however Muggles still remained, and quit hunting magic beasts as often. What happened to the two magical people is unknown as they are not well-recorded beyond this point, however during the war an increase in witches and wizards appeared.
To cast Revelio, you move your wand in a way that looks like a ‘R’, then you say the incantation “Revelio”(Re-veel-e-oh) a golden aura should appear in the general area around you, remember, the more you practice, the more bigger it can get. Objects are highlighted in blue, people are highlighted in red. Some charms and spells can hide objects or people from Revelio.
Magic Evolution - Lesson 5
Magical folk have been around for a long time, and ever since magic has had its fair share of evolution. At first, magic was done by hand completely, you would move your hand in a specific way, then say the incantation and produce magic, there were mostly charms for daily life, as there wasn't much need to use magic in a defensive manner with technology all around(technology at the time was simple stuff like farming, fire, stone tools, things like that) so they were living pretty comfortably, until their camp was raided by folk with more advanced tools, so a wizard and witch worked together to invent spells that were defensive, which is where the first instance of Protego was created, they proceeded to also make Bombarda, far more powerful than an technology that Muggles had during that time period. The magic folk soon became better and stronger, they learned that Muggles struggled to fight off their Bombarda spell, until they began having metal tools and breaking through the weaker shield charms, and the Muggles slowly got used to dodging the spell and being safe. So the magic folk decided to upgrade things by going back to planning and creating a much more complex and close-range spell, the first instance of Incendio. They also found a new way to upgrade and improve their spells, by practice and creating a few new incantations they could create stronger or weaker spells and even make entirely new spells(keep in mind this was later proven as risky and most-likely had a fair share of backfiring spells as well, more information on the concept of modifying, creating, and upgrading spells can be found in a completely separate book called “Magical Theory - The Science Behind Magic”) which would be crucial in defeating the Muggles, the Muggles soon began to fear the magical folk, for the magical people had far better weapons, magic itself. After a few centuries of developed wandless magic, there was the concept of using runes for magic along with wandless magic. You could draw on Papyrus(paper) with incantations and lay it down somewhere as a sort of defense, for example, a shield. A few more years down the line and then magic advanced as the concept of Transfiguration became popular among magic folk, soon Runes had spells that could conjure arrows at Muggles, or transform animals into cups, wandless magic also had spells that could conjure or transform objects, specific spells were made to make transforming and conjuration easier. A century or so later, untransfiguration and vanishing became a thing, and thanks to how many transformations and conjurations have occurred during history, it was and still is a lot easier to vanish objects. Soon after, magic folk began creating the concept of nonverbal magic, because Muggles started creating bows and even successfully took down a magic-run camp(barely), so to gain a quick advantage the magic folk created nonverbal spells to easily defeat whatever Muggles try to attack them. Nearly a thousand years later, magic wands became a thing, it was easy to focus your magic into a material of wand wood, combined with a core of a magical beast, nonverbal magic and spells altogether was a lot easier, it was revolutionary at the time. Magic is still growing even today, as spells are created and effects that can change your wand in various other ways.
Incarcerous is a spell that conjures rope from the tip of your wand, trapping whoever you use the spell on. To cast this spell, you move your wand in a circle and then make a curve upwards while saying the incantation(Incarcerous) and if done correctly, rope or chains should come out from the tip of your wand trapping someone. Things to keep note of, other witches and wizards can deflect, dodge, or use a shield charm to counter this spell. Your wand either conjures rope or chain depending on your intentions. With enough strength, someone can breakthrough the rope, and a spell can unleash someone from the rope and the chains, the spell can last up to an hour.
The Beginnings of Azkaban - Lesson 6
In the 15th century, there was an island owned by a dark wizard who used Unforgivable curses constantly and tons of ‘dark’ spells that are legal today. It was a tremendous battle between the Ministry of Magic and this dark wizard who often hired other dark magic user for protection the Ministry was struggling with the issue of Unforgivable curses being a constant defense measure. The Ministry of Magic later caught the dark wizard and defeated him, however the island got passed down to the dark wizard's son who was arguably worse. This pattern continued up until the late 17th century until the Ministry of Magic won, for good. Then the 18th century came, and dark wizards started to get locked up for any use of Unforgivable curses(see more info on lesson 2), the Ministry of Magic soon realized that Azkaban was perfect for a prison, mainly because it was on an island and that it was covered by huge bodies of water. So they built a prison with questionable designs such as cells, yet a storage closet nearby which contains all of the wands of the prisoners. Spell and incantations were placed onto Azkaban so that no spells could be cast, and it'd be hard to escape. The Ministry soon recruited Dementors, non-beings of darkness, to guard Azkaban. After the second Wizarding War, an in-depth research project was made public and shown lasting effects that Dementors had on people and so the Ministry banned Dementors, however, due to Azkaban's past, Dementors are still still lurking in the shadows. There have been a few wizards and witches that escaped Azkaban, so in response, the Ministry upgraded the security.
Relashio is a spell which can release a bind person, for example, if you are tied up, and someone casts(or you, but it's unlikely) Relashio on you, you're free. To cast Relashio, you must move your wand vertically upwards, then move it horizontally towards the right, before moving your wand vertically upwards again.
