Development on Scratch began in 2003. Apparently, it was inspired by a precursor block-based programming language called Logo Blocks. The first publicly available prototype was released on October 13, 2004. However, the first stable version, Scratch 1.0, wasn’t released until 2007.

First prototype in 2003 was made in Squeak!, then they kept making prototypes until they made Scratch 1.0 in 2007, which used Squeak!, Java, and later on, Flash.
