They can say it because they know that it's legitimate. The ones we tell could be malicious.

The Scratch Team made this policy because I'm assuming people were linking to more and more potentially unsafe software and they had to put up a wall so no one could cause trouble by accident or on purpose, but the ST knows that they know how to mention software safely, so they are technically allowed to bypass this rule (which is more like a safeguard which doesn't immediately have bad effects when lifted) when they know it's okay, and they're following all the other rules, too.

Also, it's possible they made the rule after they linked to their plugin.

Lego wedo 1.0 and picoboard were removed in 3.0.

Also its literally the picoboard/lego wedo 1.0 extension LOL so its not even a browser extension. And they made the rule like 3-4 years after LOL

It's a confusing area for sure. A Scratch Extension is developed by the Scratch Team or a sanctioned third party and adds new capabilities to Scratch. A browser extension may be developed by anybody and can add new capabilities (and new safety concerns) to your web browser. There are also browser extensions that add new capabilities to Scratch as it runs in your browser.

We're okay with discussions about Scratch Extensions since they are developed and controlled by trusted persons - we vouch for their safety. We don't permit promotion of browser extensions on Scratch since we can't be sure that they are safe to use.
