It could not have been a virus - Scratch isn't powerful enough to do that, but it could have crashed your browser or slowed down your computer. Projects that crash browser tabs are actually against the Terms of Use and can be reported.

Crash scripts are not viruses, all they do is crash your tab or browser. As far as I know, it's impossible to inject or get a virus in Scratch.

It's impossible for scratch to give you a virus, even if you modify the json file. It can crash your browser tab, but those projects can be reported and are usually taken down. It can also lag your browser tab, but this isn't a virus. viruses need to be downloaded onto your PC. (even extension viruses, they need to be downloaded onto your browser to work). Scratch is unable to download things on your computer by itself, you need to tell it to download things and even then you would be downloading projects and sprites and not a executable file (exe)
