When you think about it, an update back then is essentially the 4 game drops in a single year, so if they make something bigger in a separate game drop of the year they could fill up the lack of features in other drops.

But even if you take four drops together, they'll still probably not have as many features as past updates… (Except for Buzzy Bees lol)

enchanting is purple
“enchanted bow and arrows” means the arrows are also enchanted

So, Mojang is actually changing Java's graphics engine in the summer because the old one is way too outdated and is getting discontinued from Macs. The new graphics engine is Vulcan, and this change will effect some mods more than others. Mods like Sodium that don't connect straight to the source graphics engine won't be as effected and are probably ready to be ported over, although shaders will be effected.

A good amount of the development team for Iris shaders are discontinuing work on it in favor of continuing work on a separate shader mod called Aperture shaders, so although volunteers could technically port Iris over, it would be a hard process that might not be done.

On the plus side, Java will get more optimized, will continue to work on Macs, and we're one step closer to getting Vibrant Visuals on Java. The baby animals were probably just fluff to get people not as upset while they made those changes.
