“Welcome everyone, new and familiar faces alike, to SWC! Fun fact: November 1st is both the start date of this session and National Author's Day! Today's task is to introduce yourself in the Main Cabin comments and tell us about your favourite author(s). What are their names, what genres do they write in, and what do you love about their books?”

HII EVERYONE I'm Iris/Ris, she/her, CST, and I'm in Real-Fi >D My favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, Shannon Messenger, and Kiera Cass. All of them write fantasy and their books also include romance, which we all know I love and obsess over and cry my heart out to, and they're all books that I couldn't put down once I picked up.

Nov 2 Daily

Our SWC magazine, The Postscript, will be open for submissions all through November! Today, start working on an article about any SWC-related topic; once you've written at least 200 words, you can claim 100 points for your cabin. We encourage you to finish off your article before the end of the month and submit it to Robyno's (@-redredrobin-) profile (they should have a project shared by the end of the month) for publication!

Talking About Word Wars… Even Though I've Never Done One
Word Wars. An amazing part of camp. Two campers fighting with words to win 100 points for their cabin- all in hopes that their cabin will win the session.

I never participated in Word Wars last session, and last session was my first session. Will I participate in them this session? Probably not. I need to keep the tradition of not doing them alive.

Word Wars are one of the best parts of camps, some may say. Two campers agree on an amount of time and then each takes a turn to write as many words as they can in the amount of time. The amount of time can range anywhere from 30 seconds to who knows how long? Not me!

Although I've never participated in Word Wars, I have talked to some people about what Word Wars mean to them.
I asked people the following:
1- What do you love about Word Wars?
2- What do you not like about Word Wars?

For the first question, most replied that they love the challenge that Word Wars bring. Writing as fast as you can in a short amount of time is thrilling, that's for sure.
As for the second question, there were mixed answers. Some said that it was hard because they had higher WPM (words per minute) than other people, making it more challenging. Others said that they didn't like how easy it was to cheat.

And that's all I'm going to say about Word Wars! Thanks for reading and go challenge someone to a Word War!

Weekly 1
1471 words

Welcome! To start the session off, we’re focusing on epistolary writing ;) We challenge you to pose as a personified version of your cabin and write letters to the other 14 genred cabins. The letter recipients could be the other personified cabins, or perhaps you could address it to a (made-up) friend, making the cabin theme their location. Or you could invent your own premise - be as creative as you like! However, the 14 letters should somehow be related to the 14 other cabins.

You should end up with 14 letters, each letter being a minimum of 100 words (total of 1400 words). You must post proof of all parts to gain points.

The current weekly is worth 1000 points and ends at 12 AM UTC on November 9th.

Adventure - Hostile Nueterals - 103
My dearest Adventure,
Was this you who caused this? I know that we aren't the best of friends, and we're leaning more on the enemy side of things right now, but please, was it you? I hope not, otherwise we will become enemies for as long as we live. I'm trapped. I can't get out of this inn. Why did they ever suggest coming here, to this old, dumb inn? I knew it was a bad idea from the start- and what do you know, I was right! We're trapped, locked in, and we don't know who did it.
Help us,
Realistic F.

Bizarro Fiction - Enemies - 110
Bizzaro,
I hate you. Did you do this to me? Did you lock me in this old, disgusting, dusty inn? I want to leave! Let me out, now! I hate this place. It smells horrible- just like you. I mean, it doesn't smell like you, but it smells horrible, and so do you. You smell like tar and all things icky. I mean, you are bizzare, afterall. Further more leading me to believe that this was your doing. So. That brings is to the question: did you lock us and trap us in this inn? Answer me. And not once I get out. I mean answer me now.
-R. F.

Dystopian - Enemies - 101
Discopain, oh discopain,
You hurt my head so much with all of your sparklyness. Why don't you ever just… stop? I mean, maybe then, you could HELP US escape, instead of sending mean, rude letters about how we got ourselves locked in? I know that we're enemies, so was it you who did this to us? Because stop. We want to leave this old, cozy inn! Sure, it's cozy, but it smells like mold and wood- a not too good smell. Let us out. Let us go. We'll stop teasing you about being Discopain, I promise.
Please. Thank about it.
-Real.

Fanfiction - Allies - 104
Supp Fan-Fi! How's life going so far? I hope good. I'll say this. This message is a secret message (oo wow) so please please please try to crack the code, maybe, you know, for your ally?
Other than that, I love you so much, even though we're total opposites! I never get to see you anymore, now that you travel around in time. That makes me rather sad, actually.
So how's life? Good, I hope. It better be better than mine. Anyways, let me know! I can't wait for your next letter, so write soon, please!
Buh-bye.
Much love,
R.

Fantasy - Hostile Neutrals - 112
To: Banned-tasy Fantasy
From: The Best People in the World, Real-Fi
Ugh, and why do I have to write a letter to you, you may wonder?
Well, as the terms of the inn are, we must write letters to everyone we know so they know we're alive.
So here I am. Or, rather, here it is. A letter. For you.
I'm pretty sure I've banned you from my contacts.
Yet I'm writing a letter to you, Fantasy.
How are the creatures doing?
Good?
Bad?
In between?
I never cared much for creatures.
So loud.
So disgusting.
But I'm glad or something that you have found love in animals.

Folklore - Enemies - 104
Ahem
Why did you send us on that trail? I know that your last name is ‘Trails’, but you just had to send us on a trail up to this old inn, didn't you? How funny is it that my last name is ‘Inn’? *insert chuckled here*
I think that this is all your fault. All of it.
And don't tell me that it's not! You're the one who sent us on that trail. And now we're trapped. It's not good. We're hungry. The food is horrible. No one can sleep at night because of the mice infestation.
And it's all because of you.

Hi-Fi - Ally - 110
Hey there, ally!
Could you, maybe, help us?
I know you're busy robbing trains and catching other robbers (isn't that kind of hypocritical?) but like, could you maybe take a very fast train over to us, at the Inn, asap? We really, really, really need help.
We're trapped… in an Inn. Yep. I know, I know. We're idiots for listening to Folklore when they told us to come, but we just had to! We never pass up a dare! Oh. And it was a dare.
Do you know any history of this Inn? We don't. Please, help us. We made a stupid decision and regret it.
So help us.
Please.

Horror - Siblings - 103
Hey Horror! How's it going? Is
Everything going good? I sure hope so. If it wasn't, then that would be bad. I just wanted to know that I
Love you very much, you being my sibling. I may or may not be trapped.
Please don't tell mom. I'll see you in a month. But we're all trapped with no way out. Yes, all of
Us are trapped. HAHA just kidding. But look at the first letter of each line. That might tell you the truth and help you
Solve this mysterious message.
Love you,
your sibling,
Real.

Mystery - Neutral - 102
Hey hey Mystery,
Could you possibly help us?
We don't know who locked us up in this Inn, but now we're trapped, locked, no way to get out!
We also know that you're quite busy solving a mystery of your own, but please, we need help. You could be like Mystery Inc! Solving mysteries could be what you do, now, often and on a daily basis! Come on, we'd fund you. Please, will you help us figure out who locked us away in this Inn? We don't know. We need help to figure it out. And only you can help us.
Please.

Nonfiction - Neutrals - 100
Hm, we've been getting a lot of bread recently.
Is it from you, Non-Fi? We've been getting a lot of naan lately, and we know that that only comes from your amazing bakery of bread. Are you the people responsible for us being locked away? Or do you know who, and now you're sponsoring them? Maybe you should be our enemies now, instead of neutrals. I'm going to take this up with my team at our next meeting- so, now. Good luck staying on the list of neutrals after this. You'll need it. You really, really will.
Sincerely,
Your-Soon-to-be-Enemy,
Real

Poetry - Neutrals - 102
Time to write in a poem
Don't you think
I've been hearing a low hum
Followed by a clink

And it's all because
Of you. No, don't protest, no.
It's all because you.

You trapped us
Here
In this Inn
This cursed Inn

P - lease let us out
O - r we will be
E - nemies. And you don't want that.
T - rust us.
R - eally. Trust us.
Y - ou don't want us as your enemies.

Now that's it. I wrote in poems for you. This better not be you who's locked us in.
Or we will lock you in.

-R. F. I.

Science Fiction - Friendly Nuetrals - 102
Hey bEsTiE! Sci, could you help us out?
We're trapped.
Like, lOcKeD in an Inn with no way to escape.
Ugh, who did this to us? We just want to get out!
Could you help us escape this hole of ugh-ness? It's SO not cool.
We hate it here. It smells moldy. It gives off a cozy vibe, sure, but it's old. Like, old old.
Who wants to stay here, anyways? Not us! We want to leave! And, like, now!
So please, could you help us get out and escape this prison?
Thanks bestie! I know I can count on you.
Byee!

Script - Enemies - 105
What's the difference between stage left and stage right, anyways?
It makes just as much sense as to why you locked us in the Inn! We know it was you, don't deny it! You're our number one enemy! It just has to be you!
Well, maybe more like number four enemy, but still! You are our enemy. And we don't like you at all. We know that you all are the reason we are locked in this Inn. So confess now, before we get out and you face horrible consequences.
And I mean horrible. So confess now and spare yourselves.
- R. F. I.

Thriller - Neutrals - 113
Dear Thriller,
Sup. So.
We may or may not have a problem
We can't exactly get out of this Inn. We're locked in.
Yes, we're neutrals, not good yet not bad, but please, help us?
We promise not to attack you ever again.
So. Will you help us get out of this Inn, please?
We can't promise too much, we don't have too much, but please. We need help and you may be our last hope.
Isn't that a great title that you love so much? Such a fun title, we wish that we had it! But we don't. Here we are, asking for your help. Please don't turn us down.
Sincerely, Realistic.

Google Translate is infamous for its inaccuracy - but today, we're using that to our advantage. Copy and paste a song into Google Translate, and translate it into different languages until the lyrics are completely different. Then write a story based off it! 200 words for 200 points, no evidence required.

Lyrics from Firework by Katy Perry:
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from cavin' in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you?
'Cause there's a spark in you

Translated:
What do you want?
Confused, who doesn't drink again?
Did you hwon
Who wants to be your mom how every day is yes?
Would that be a good idea?
Now cry a meter behind, but not together
What are you guys doing?
Because you are ashamed

I slammed my door in his face
tears streaming down my own

Why do you want?
I manage to yell
at him
through tears

I'm confused
he says back
pounding on the door
who doesn't drink again?

I hold my tears back
for a split second
contemplating
what to answer with
Me. I don't.

Did you hwon-
he stammers
before rushing
to the bathroom
to throw up

When he returns
I have a response ready
Who would ever want to be your mom
when she has to say yes to you everyday

But I love you
you just need to take
another drink

No
I whisper.
Would that be a good idea?

I can hear him
thinking
trying to
come up
with an answer.

We now cry a meter behind.
Not together.

I don't ask what it means.
I already know.
He doesn't want
me to be
sad alone.
He wants to be sad
with me.

That's how I know
he loves me.

I open the door
just a crack
so we can exchange
a kiss
but then mom
walks past.

What are guys doing?
she shreiks,
pulling us away.
You should be ashamed.

And that sent us both into even more tears.

Nov 4 Prompt of the Day
185 words

“✉ prompt of the day ◈ describe your bedroom in the inn!”

An old wooden door slowly creaks open as you enter into Ris' room. “Room 222”, it says. Huh. Triple twos, like from The Acts of Violet. You smirk. It must be a sign that somehow you'll survive this. You advance into Iris' room. A queen sized bed sits in the middle of the room put up against the wall. It has a soft, red comforter with gold trim. The pillows match. In room 222, there's a fireplace. Nice and cozy. It's blaring away already; you can feel the heat of it against your hands as you put them in front of it. A rug lies on the wooden floor, nothing too fancy, just a beige, soft rug with a suspicious red stain on it. To the side of the room there lies an antique-looking dresser. The handles are a beautiful bronze. Luggage has been set on top of it, and you can see clothes hanging out of the drawers. In the bathroom lies a whole bunch of toiletries. The sink is stained along with the shower, yet it gives off a cozy vibe.

Collab Story with Dan
176 words

https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/32140121/comments/#comments-201785508
Words Dan wrote are in italics, not counting towards my word total. Words I wrote are normal.

Iris walked down the dark, abandoned hallway, alone. A scratching noise came from within the walls.
Suddenly a horde of rats emerged in front of her, followed closely by Bruno. Siri immediately started singing “We don't talk about Bruno” at the top of her lungs.
Iris finished with a round of applause, coming from another figure emerging from the walls. This figure was Dan.
Dawn cheered for Siri's amazing performance, then grinned. “Encore!”
Iris tilted her head in thought for a second, before continuing. “NEAR, FAR, WHERE EVER YOU ARRRRE!”
Dawn starts to dance and sing along with Siri. Before long, Bruno and the rats have joined in too.
And then they all COLLAPSED! And why did they collapse: it was because o.f…
Siri and Dawn's evil parents. They walked in right in the middle of the chorus.
The fourth wall breaks and the parents can hear the audience gasp, but then everything returns to normal. The parents hate singing and dancing and music, so anyone who participates in any of those activities must be exterminated.
The parents advance toward Siri and Dawn, hands outstretched. Dawn whispers something to Siri and together they…
BURST INTO A TAP DANCE! The parents are so stunned that THEY are the ones who get exterminated >DD
The fourth wall breaks again and the audience claps, encouraging Dawn and Siri to continue. Dawn and Siri happily oblige before taking their bows.
The curtain- wait what a curtain :00- slowly drew shut after Dan and Iris took their well earned bows. Today was a good day.
Dawn turned to Siri and patted her on the back. “Nice job today, Siri!”
Iris smirked and giggled. “You too, Dan!”
Dawn grinned. “Let's go head out for some well deserved ice cream!”
“Deal!” Iris yells.
“Then let's go!” Dawn smiles and links her arm through Siri's.
Iris grins back and the dramatic duo skips off into the sunset to go find ice cream. The end!

"A message in a bottle is all I can do,” says Taylor Swift in her starr-striking song. Write a message to go in a bottle - you know, the kind you toss into the ocean waves in the vain hope someone might find it someday - and invent a little backstory to go along with it! (Or, feel free to use mine: Your darling teddy bear has decided to abandon you for a life of piracy and crime, and you’re convincing them to come back </3) 300 words for 200 points, and earn an extra 50 points for sharing your message.

Dear mother,
I've run away from you and our home. Or, rather, rode a boat. We live in a house… floating atop the ocean. A house boat. And life just isn't great anymore. I wish for more adventure. I don't want to fish anymore!

I don't know if you'll ever receive this message, but if you do, please understand that this is what's best for me. I'm a man now, mother. Heck, I'm nineteen! I shouldn't have to listen to your every word. I can do what I want now. My life is up to me! Please understand that I wish to interact with people other than you and fish, along with the occasional safety boat that comes and asks if we need any help. Which you say we don't, but we do. We really, really do. You aren't well, mother. You've had Yellow Fever for weeks now. I don't know how I haven't gotten it, but it's a miracle nonetheless.

I want to explore the world. I want to set foot on land. I want to meet a lady. I want to fall in love. I want to raise a family. And I can't do that if I'm stuck on a boat for all my life! So I've hitched a ride with the safety boat people back to the mainland. There is food and medicine that we left for you. Please, mother. Take it. I don't care if you get this message or not, but please, get well again.

I know that you'll probably never see this note or find it, but I love you, mother, and I left without telling you because I knew you'd say no. You are too overprotective, even though I've only ever met you, the fish, and the safety boat people. I know this will be hard on you, but you can handle it. I know you can.

As of now, we're still riding to the mainland. I love you. I always will.
Love,
Charles.

Nov 6 Daily

In Victorian times, people sent messages to each other through secret code - aka flower arrangements! The flowers they used signified different things; for example, roses for love and friendship, crocuses for happiness, and marigolds for grief. Today’s daily is all about writing using the Victorian Language of Flowers. Our brilliant Alba has compiled this beautiful list of flowers: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/741579314/. In 400 words, write a piece with 2-5 flowers on the list (and incorporate their meanings into your work) to earn 300 points! Extra 100 points for sharing, and a virtual daisy for stating your favourite flower in the comments for Starr’s enjoyment.

(note: this was og gonna be a post for a potd, but then I didn't do it, so now it's a post for a daily)

Ice plant - heartless
Hydrangea - show-off
Euphorbia - vanity
Rhododendron - danger
Trefoil - revenge

I gave Lizzy a dry smile as she approached. In my hand, I clutched a bouquet of wonderful flowers: an ice plant, a hydrangea, an euphorbia, a rhododendron, and a trefoil, all meaning different things- and none of them good.

An ice plant, representing Lizzy's heartlessness. A hydrangea, for her show-offness. A euphorbia, for her vanity. A rhododendron, for Lizzy's danger. And finally, a trefoil, representing my revenge.

“Hey bestie,” Lizzy said, sitting down next to me on the front step of my house and plopping down her pink designer bag next to her. She pulled out her phone, posed and took a quick selfie, typed a few words and posted it. This is how it always was. Her followers just had to know what she was doing at all times. I give an eyeroll, but Lizzy doesn't notice. She's too busy reading the comments that are streaming in.

“So, Liz,” I say, the flowers behind my back. “I have a gift for you.” Lizzy's head shoots up and she looks at me with a glimmer of excitement in her eyes.

“Oh. My. Gosh. Bestie! Ahh! I love you!” She shrieks, holding out each syllable. “What is it? And where is it?”

I smirk. She was falling right into my trap. Perfect.

A month ago, Lizzy had posted a picture of me wearing an absurd amount of makeup (we had done a 100 layers of makeup challenge) on her stream and I was now the laughing stock of the school. I asked her to take it down. She said no. It was time to get even.

“Well, it's actually five gifts.” Her eyes light up with greed. “The first one is this. It's an ice plant, for your heartlessness.” I pull the flower out from behind my back and hand it to her. I quickly continue so she can't get any words in. “And this one is a hydrangea, for your show-offness.” I hand her the hydrangea. “And a euphorbia, for your vanity. A rhododendron, for how dangerous you can be to me. And finally, a trefoil, representing my revenge. Now, boys!”

My little brothers jump out from their hiding places and pelt Lizzy with rotten food and water balloons, while I record. I smirk. Perfect. My plan was perfect and had gone perfectly.

"Bye bye, Lizzy. Just wait until you're the laughing stock of the school, now, once I post this!"

And just like that, it was done.

Flash fiction is the shortest form of prose writing. It’s a flash - a blink - of a story, a universe contained within a few words. Go check out Soki’s fantastic workshop on how to slay flash fiction writing: ( https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/6688387/ ). Afterwards, we challenge you to, in 400 words, write three complete stories. Structure it however you like - the sky’s the limit! Upon completion, 300 points (and an extra 50 for sharing) shall be awarded.
This is also a bi-daily, meaning it'll be happening for two days. This is the FIRST DAY of this daily. On the second day, people who haven't completed it on the first day will be able to, but everyone else is welcome to work towards their own writing goals!

I walked the lonely halls in my satin dress. I was a princess now. And yet I still always managed to step and trip on my dress. Ugh. And that's exactly what I did. I stepped on my dress and tripped, landing facedown on the cold, hard, floor, blacking out. When I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital bed, lying there, hooked up to many machines. Lovely. I tried to move but couldn't. I was terrified. I heard footsteps coming towards my bed, and there was the prince, a wicked smile on his face.
“You're about to die.”

I stood at the bus stop, sitting down and waiting for my bus. Ugh, why did it always take so long? It was so annoying! It was always late. Always. And whether that be by five minutes or twenty, it was always late. And it wasn't helpful that it was dark out whenever I was waiting. I jumped at every sound, every leaf fluttering, every twig cracking, every bird tweeting, every car that sped by, everything. And then I heard it. A growl. I jumped up from the bench and looked around frantically, trying to find the source of it to no result. And then it leaped out at me, scratching my leg! It was… a dog?! I ran like a lunatic through the forest, jumping over every obstacle, trying to escape this cruel beast-like creature. My legs shook with every step. My lungs throbbed with every breath. But I kept running. I had to. I couldn't get killed, no, not yet. I was too young. I was going to get married in a month to the kindest woman you've ever met. So I kept running. And running more. Through the woods. And I wouldn't stop until I was safe.

I leaned over to kiss my husband, Alex, goodnight. I smiled a little smile. I loved him with all my heart. He was my person. I chose him over that brain surgeon and I was glad I had. I laid my head down on his soft chest.

“Goodnight, Meredith. I love you.”
“Same.”

Weekly 2

Part 1 - Transcripts - my words: 573
Interview 1
Ayid interviews Iris
My words: 322

(Ayid) {smiles} Hey Iris! Thanks for taking the time to answer some of my question! {pause} My first question to you is how did you find out about SWC? {Tilts head} Did you hear it from a friend or did you find it on your own?

(Iris) Happy to be here, Ayid! I found SWC on my own, actually! I stumbled across it somehow, not exactly sure how, and signed up. I totally forgot I had signed up until I got the notification from my amazing leaders, Moss and Re! {leans in, whispers} I'll be honest with you, Ayid. When I first got the messages, I wasn't sure I wanted to do it anymore. But now I'm glad I did!

(Ayid) It's great to see that you enjoyed your first session so much! {pause} On to the second question! {looks down to read notes} Alright! Did you start writing just because of SWC or were writing before that?

(Iris) {tilts head in thought, pause} Hm, I'd say I was already writing before SWC. I was in many roleplays, and I still am! But I think I take writing much more seriously now than before I joined SWC.

(Ayid) Interesting! {pause} Now on to some questions about you as a person. {looks at Iris} Is there anything you live by? It could be anything {waves arms around in a circle}! like a motto or a rule.

(Iris) {says sarcastically} Uhh, I live by my school? {giggles} Um, I guess I believe in that knock on wood thing? So, you know, you don't jinx yourself? Does it work? I dunno. But that's what I do.

(Ayid) {chuckles} I think a lot of us live by our schools. {thinks for a moment} Do you have any other hobbies other than writing? {pause} I sure have a ton!

(Iris) {smiles} I do! I love reading and watching tv! I also love taking part in theatre activities, whether that be camps, plays, or musicals!

(Ayid) {smiles back} Those are some cool hobbies! {pause} On a day off from school, what do you find yourself doing? {pauses to think} I guess this sort of ties in with your hobbies!

(Iris) {grins} Thanks! I usually find myself in my room watching YouTube or scrolling through Pinterest. Nothing much. Just relaxing, I guess! {laughs}

(Ayid) {laughs} I bet that's what a lot of people do nowadays. {Pause} Moving away from the topic of you as a person, I'm interested in your Scratch life. How did you find out about Scratch?

(Iris) {smiles sadly} My friend told me about it. She and I don't talk too much anymore, as she left school due to her mental health. I mean, I understand that mental health is a big deal, I mean, I mental health issues, too, but I feel like she hasn't gotten any help for it. Like, a therapist or anything. {pause} I just want her to come back to school. She was my best friend. And now we're not.

(Ayid) {shifts uncomfortably} Sorry if that was a harsh topic to talk about.. {pause} I hope you guys rekindle your friendship!

(Iris) {sad smile} No, no. It's fine. And thanks for having me! {exits}
Interview 2
Iris interviews Ayid
My words: 251

(Iris) Ayid! Hello! {hugs} Please welcome Ayid to the show, folks! {applause} Thanks for taking some time to answer my questions. These questions are quite {pause} interesting. Lets start off with this one: when was your first session of Scratch Writing Camp?

(Ayid) {hugs back} Thanks for having me come! {smiles, and sits down} My first EVER session was the March 2022 session, where I was in Dystopian! {pause} That makes this session my third!

(Iris) {grins} That's one more session than me! {leans in} Do you remember what place your cabin was in for the final results?

(Ayid) Yup! {grins confidently} We got second place- which I think helped with my decision in continuing SWC {Pauses to think} I remember feeling really proud of getting second.

(Iris) {surprise} Oo, wow! {leans in} And you were in Mythology last session, correct, in which you were in first place, with me? {smirks}

(Iris) {leans in more, whispers} So, do you think you'll win again? {smirks}

(Ayid) {scoffs} Well obviously! Horror for the win! {pumps arms in the air} {smirks} The other cabins don't stand a chance. Even Real-Fi. {pause} Though we do love our siblings!

(Iris) {laughs} And we love you, too. Now, onto an interesting question. {looks down at notes} Does pineapple belong on pizza?

(Ayid) {smiles} No. The only vegetable that I believe belongs on pizza is mushroom. {tilts head} And that's only if the mushroom has this rubbery texture that I like. {grins} That must have sounded really weird.

(Iris) Oh, really? I love mushrooms! And I kind of understand what you mean by rubbery mushrooms, but also not. But I'd have to say that the best mushrooms are the ones that are fried, buttered, and salted. Then again, I love mushrooms as long as they aren't plain. {pause} On to the next question! {looks down at notes, smirks} What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever done?

(Ayid) Dang you got me good on this one, Iris. {pauses to think} Maybe the time that I went to the bathroom at school and left the stall door open? {laughs nervously} thankfully no body came in!

(Iris) {chuckles} Oh my! That's {pause} quite the story! The most embarrassing thing I've ever done is laugh so hard chocolate milk shot out of my nose! I still remember it dripping down my chin. Eww.

(Iris) Okay, here's one that's a bit, {pause} well, {pause} interesting. Do you still sleep with a stuffed animal? I do! {chuckles}

(Ayid) Heh not my mind that went to kotlc and all the stuffed animals there. {Chuckles} I do not actually, but in a way I sort of do since I usually clutch this small pillow I have in my room.

Part 2 - Monologues/Speeches - my words: 310
words Em wrote are underlined

Introduction
(Richard Rollington) I have a problem. But first you must know what cabin wars are. What are cabin wars, you ask? Well, two saturdays during Scratch Writing Camp is when cabin wars are held. Cabins can war each other and then are tasked to complete those wars in a certain time frame, whether that be nine hours or five. It's a challenge, and it's fun, sure, but it's stressful. It's very competitive, too. Cabins stabbing their allies in the back. So much drama. So much fun! Cabins get warred and it's just delightful to watch the drama and panic go down, whether or not you're part of that cabin. I mean, if you are part of that cabin, there isn't really time to watch it, haha! Because you're working to complete the war.

Middle
So what's my problem, you may ask? I don't know whether or not to love or hate cabin wars. Part of me says love, but the other part says hate. I love them, I really do. They're a fun, competitive way to get words and grow your skill as a writer, yet the other part of me says to hate them. They're stressful, and they take time away from my life. Time that could be spent working on homework, which, then again, would get me words, but still! And what if I'm the only active person in my cabin during cabin wars!? Then what? I just… write 5000 words on my own, just like that? No pressure, nothing? I don't have a high Words Per Minute Speed, hello! And what if I'm busy during cabin wars? I feel guilty if I am… so why don't I hate cabin wars? There's just too much to love about them! But yet too much to hate about them to love them! What am I to do, I just don't know.

I've been asking people what their opinion is on cabin wars, and I've been getting a lot of answers on how it really affects your sleep schedule. For example, @fluffyjujunicorn said “Cabin wars can be lots of fun, but also extremely stressful if there's only a few people online in your cabin, or a war is getting close to ending and you haven't finished yet. Also, going to sleep during cabin wars is scary because you miss nine hours of wars and you have no idea what's going to happen,” and similarly @Rey_venclaw added “In the past, I’ve made pretty poor decisions regarding my sleep and cabin wars, which is something many SWC-ers do,” this makes cabin wars seem like it isn't good for your health. But on the other hand, @Starthorn says “I really like cabin wars, just because I get to write about whatever I want- and a ton of it!” which is true, cabin wars give you the motivation to write which is important. @-WildClan- shows the the amazing and not so great things in cabin wars in this quote “ I remember my first session of SWC (fan-fi March 2022), we had a whole spy ring set up, constantly monitoring when other cabins' shields would drop. xDD Other cabins choose to play more defensively, not warring others so much, but racking up a ton of words for themselves. Some do both. I think cabin wars are the perfect time for individual campers to shine, as everyone is able to recognize the person who writes a truly massive amount of words, or the one who stays up all night because they feel responsible to be online when no one else is. Of course, losing sleep and feeling the need to be online at all times because you don't want a miss a war isn't the greatest,” which really got me thinking. I also set up a poll which 81 SWC people participated, and the majority of people, which was 32 voted for “I likey” and only one person voted for “I hate it”, which proves that cabin wars is generally popular with SWCers.

Conclusion
So again, after all this research and thinking, I still don't know if cabin wars are good or bad, but I think I've come to the conclusion that cabin wars have their good and bad qualities, as nothing can be perfect. It's true that there can be a lot of changes that cabin wars need, but I'm sure that it can be fixed as long as someone notices them. So that's why I've compiled a forum link showing all the feedback that I've gotten about cabin wars so that the (co)hosts could maybe read them and see if there is anything that they will be able to change: link goes here! I may be unsure about cabin wars, but I know that someday I'll be able to decide my opinion on them.

Part 3 - Spoken Word Poetry - 406 words
No, mom, this is not a phase.
This is an illness.
This is a sickness.
This can't be stopped.
But I need it to be.

This thing… it suffocates me.
This thing… it drowns me.
This thing… it hurts me.
This thing… it harms me.
This thing… is depression.

It's a whirlwind of chaos that closes in on me.
It makes me feel hopeless, as if there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
And I need there to be.
But it's not there.
It never will be.

So how will I escape from this, you might ask?
I'll get help. I'll go to a therapist
But I'm broke, you may say. What about me?
And that's exactly what I'm going to say next.

We need to band together,
old and young,
female and male.
We need to get people the proper care for their mental health that they need.
We can't lose anyone else in this cruel world.
Not to anything they did to themselves because they weren't able to get help for something that they need.

We need to help people with ALL mental health issues, not just depression.
Because mental health matters.
All of it.
Not just depression.
Not just anxiety.
ALL OF IT!!!

We need to fund therapy, so they can offer it for free to people who can't afford it.
WE. NEED. TO. CHANGE!!
So lets change for the better
Not the worst.

Because the worse,
well,

it isn't good.

It isn't good at all.

The worse is pain.
The worse is chaos.
The worse is suffering.

And do YOU want to suffer because of your mental health illnesses?
If you just said yes, why are you here? Get the heck out!
If you said no, then lets work together on getting care for those who need it.

Care to stop the pain.
Care to stop the chaos.
Care to stop the suffering.

Lets do this together.

Take my hand.
Take it, come on.
And lets do this.

Not just one person can do it.
It'll take many.

So spread the word.
Tell the whole world that we need to fix this.

We need to change for the better
Not the worse

And we can do this
As long as we work together.

So take my hand.
Take the hand on your left
Take the hand on your right

And lets change the world
For the better
Not the worse.

Part 4 - Songwriting - 390 words
Title/Flower: Rose
Meaning: love

Verse 1
I wished on a dandelion
That'd you'd always be mine
I wished on a dandelion
And it blew away into the wind

Verse 2
That wind came back to haunt me
And then I think I knew
You would always be mine
How I would be to you

Chorus
Walking around with my rose colored friend
I can see I can see I can see once again
Walking around with my rose colored friend
I can see I can see I can see once again

I can see your love
I can see your love
I can see your love
I can see your love

Verse 3
Don't you try to hide it
Boy, you know you're mine
For I wished on a dandelion
Not a prickly vine

For you are mine to love
Yeah, I know, it's true
You gave me that rose
And it reminds me of you

Verse 4
I'll keep it forever
It's sitting in a jar
Even when it wilts I
Will look at it and think of you

Chorus
Walking around with my rose colored friend
I can see I can see I can see once again
Walking around with my rose colored friend
I can see I can see I can see once again

I can see your love
I can see your love
I can see your love
I can see your love

Verse 5
Please, boy, won't you be mine
I really want you
So get down on one knee
Because I need you

Bridge
I need you
I need you
Oh, I need you
How strongly I really need you

I need you
I need you
Oh, I need you
Please just propose to me
Here, right now.

Chorus
Walking around with my rose colored friend
I can see I can see I can see once again
Walking around with my rose colored friend
I can see I can see I can see once again

I can see your love
I can see your love
I can see your love

Chorus
Walking around with my rose colored friend

I can see your love
I can see your love
I can see your love

I can see your love
I can see your love

Today's daily (inspired by certain celestial beings within SWC) is centered around constellations! Using a constellation of your choice, write a fictional essay on how it came to exist- you can incorporate different aspects of it into your essay, such as the names of the stars, the meaning behind it, and so on. 300 words will earn you 300 points, and earn an extra 100 for sharing your writing!

Constellation: Cygnus the Swan

As a child, I was hideous. I was disgusting. But now I glow and shine, high in the sky, beaming down on everyone and everything.

Where to begin, where to begin. Ah, here we go. The beginning of time.

I was born at the beginning of it all. I was a little swan, beautiful and darling. I spent my days hiding and cowering from these cursed animals you human folk now call dinosaurs. But I had fun. I was happy. I had a family. I had parents. I had friends. I was loved.

But then an asteroid came.

Everything changed after that one, painful day. The world was covered with soot and dust. It smelled nasty. I'm not sure how I survived, but here I am.

That asteroid was actually a ship, holding a bunch of odd-looking swans. As they stepped out of their ship, I cowered in the light of it. I couldn't move. I was frozen in place.

And then one of them spoke. “You… Cygnus? You… duck? You… one uh us?”

I, not knowing what to do, nodded along, unsure about what was happening. After a long moment of awkward silence, the new creatures burst out in laughter. I joined them, embarrassed and confused. And then the tallest one stepped out from the group.

“Darling, you're name is now Cygnus. You're a duck. You look like the worst duck ever, but you're a duck, like one of us. Come, darlings.” The duck strode away, everyone else at her heels, and me at theirs.

We played in the soot and dirt that was the world, but the other ducks always laughed at me. I hated it.

One day, we found water. And went swimming. As all the other ducks went into the water, I hesitated. Did I even remember how to swim? But I dove in, and boy did it feel good. I twisted and twirled through the water, feeling happier than I had in a long, long time.

When I came back up to the surface to take a breath, I noticed the other ducks staring at me, beaks on the floor.

Finally, the tallest one spoke. “Cygnus… you are no duck. You're a swan.”

I looked down at my feathers. The soot and dirt had washed off after months. I spread my wings and lifted myself into the sky, hearing applause from below.

I flew higher and higher, and am still flying high to this day.

Have you heard of time capsules? They're little collections that we make for our older selves to read so that we can look back on the good old days. For this daily, you'll be writing a letter to the future you! What do you hope your future self will be like? In decades ahead, what do you want to remember about your world as it is now? You can write about anything from your age, current trends and music, upcoming events and releases, your writing projects, and anything else you want to remember. Then, you can come back to it in a year or so, and see how much you've changed over time! You can even pull a Luna and make a habit of writing yearly letters to yourself. Your letter should have a minimum of 200 words (though it can be much longer) for 300 points!

Dear me,
Hi. It's me from a year ago today, November 11, 2022. I'm in the middle of Language Arts right now writing this. Woo, brain breaks and procrastinating. Do they still have brain breaks at your school a year in the future? I hope so.

Is Thor still alive? Our cat? Who we love dearly? Does he climb up into our brother's bed yet, and can he get down on his own, too?

Do you still have a crush on that violin player? I know- A VIOLIN! And I'm a viola. How does that work? I don't know, but I must listen to my heart *insert some crappy love stuff here haha*.

Are you still on Scratch?
Are you still alive?
Do you still want to be a pediatrician?
Argh, I can't wait for this year to be done!

Who are your friends? Is it still the gang of orchestra kids? I hope so. I love them all so much right now (as friends, of course).

How's your life? Can you drive? Do you have a job? Are you dating anyone? Did our next door neighbors move? Or are they still there?

Anyways, I can't wait to see who I become in the future.
Bye, love you,
*name*

Camp Experience and Why Me
751 words
(edit: changed the title)

Starting in July of 2022 (wow, only 4 months ago :0), I participated in Scratch Writing Camp for the first time, as a camper of Mythology. Now for the next part, did I overachieve a little bit? Yes, yes I did, but then again, I'm an overachiever through and through. In August, I applied for (co)leader for Scratch Music Camp. I was chosen to lead La cabin. Now, was it because there were barely any applications? Probably. Was I at all experienced with leading camps? Nope. But that's just the overachiever I am. At the same time, I was also a camper in Scratch Reading Camp. I wasn't originally going to sign up, but then the leaders of Adventure cabin advertised it in a roleplay I'm in. I signed up with Adventure as one of my preferences and was placed there. I tried to do my best to read and support my cabin, but I just wasn't there. Maybe it was because I was leading another camp, maybe it was because the cabin seemed as though it had been planned out, or maybe it was because I fell out of my love for reading. I don't know the answer, but I do know that I now regret thinking I would be active, when I wasn't. Now onto September, I co-led Harmony cabin in Scratch Friendship camp. It was awesome. I was also a camper in Camp Tropiland, in Starlit Shaft. I was active in both for the most part, yet once more I wasn't too active for Starlit Shaft. Then again, school started, so I put my school over co-leading camp duties over my camper camp duties. Was that the best thing to do? For the school part, yes. Because life > Scratch at all times. But now I realize that I should have treated co-leading and being a camper as equals. October. Woo! I was the leader of RPE (Religion, Ethics, and Philosophy) in Scratch Humanities Camp. Sadly, that camp was never active. And I don't just mean the campers. The hosts weren't active, either. But I know that they all probably had important things going on in their lives. I was also a camper in Scratch Art Camp, my lodge being Pop. Was it fun? Yes. Was I active? Once more, no. But I was more active than I was for the others! I tended to do my art online with a mouse, and boy, was that a bad idea. My finger got cramps nearly everyday from doing that. But it was fun! I feel like it helped me grow my strengths as an artist. Onto this month, November! I'm in Scratch Writing Camp (again!), as you probably already know, and I'm in Real-Fi! Totally not counting this as words towards a cabin war right now… Anyways! I'm also in Scratch Science Camp, in Psychology, which I haven't been too active in because none of the dailies really interested me so far, but I do have many more science minutes to add from science class! Looking to the future, in December, I'm co-hosting Scratch Music Camp, and leading Vocal in it! I've also signed up for Scratch Reading Camp again, because I want another chance at it, because last August, I wasn't really reading anything. And now, in January, I'm leading Pirate cabin for January Writing Camp, another thing which you probably already know! I'm also the honorary of Dance cabin in Scratch Physical Education Camp. And that's all of my camp experience so far! Now onto why I think I'd be a good co-host. (continued in next comments)

I think I'd be a good co-host for Scratch Newspaper Camp because I'm active, responsible, and take my duties seriously. I can guarantee to be online at least once a day, unless of course I'm taking a break for my mental health, or I'm too busy, in which case I'll let you know. If I get cast in a musical I'm going to audition for, I'll have rehearsal everyday after school, which shouldn't interfere too badly with camp. I set a good example for campers by putting my own life over Scratch and camps. I do my best to plan cabins as well as possible. I'm kind to my campers, and I will always treat them as my equals. Being a co-host doesn't make me anymore amazing than them. I can motivate people and cheer them on. I always go the extra mile, because, as I've said before, I'm an overachiever.

CABIN WAR WRITING >DD
355 words

I stood, just about ready to walk down the aisle. Oh my gosh. This was it. This was when I would get married! Ahh! I was so excited! Just twenty more minutes… and then I would be down that aisle.

But then I noticed a red patch appear in my dress. The blood drained from my face. No no no! This couldn't be happening! No! I wouldn't stand for it!

Why did my period have to come right now? No! It wasn't due to happen for another week! I groaned.

“Molly! Get in here!” I whined as tears started to roll down my face.

Molly rushed in. She had been my best friend since seventh grade, when we were in the same musical together. We had been besties ever since. She looked confused as she entered, but as she saw the red stain in my dress, her eyes widened. She glanced at my face and the tears running down it. Molly dropped her bouquet of flowers and ran over to me.

“How… when…” Molly asked, looking at my tear-stained face. “Honey, oh honey,” she said, wiping the tears off my face with her sleeve. “You could… change?” I slowly nodded, not happy with that idea, but yet I had to do something. I was not going to walk down that aisle with a freaking red stain on my white dress!

Molly rain to my suitcase and frowned as she fumbled through it. I sobbed even more. There was only sweatpants and pajamas. And paint. Why did I bring the paint?

An idea slowly crossed Molly's face. You could see it in her eyes. She grabbed the paints and opened the caps. Then she did the unthinkable. She squirted it all over my dress! I watched in horror as she blended the colors together. My horror faded into amazement. My dress was now a rainbow. It was even more beautiful than before.

I looked up at Molly, speechless.

“Thank you…” I whispered.

Molly nodded. “Now it's time to go!”

I nodded and hurried out the door in my amazing dress. Time to do this thing.

Welcome to the second bidaily of this session! The ever-stunning Starr has granted us with a workshop on humor, which can be found here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/747563700/ We'll be putting a spin on the iconic daily as we know it- using what you've learned from the humour workshop, write 400 words of a SWC fanfiction in the form of a comedic skit/script! This'll earn you 300 points- remember you have 2 days to complete this daily. Today is the SECOND day. We hope you'll have fun with this one!

Mythology, Adventure, and Thriller are seated around a table. A sign above them reads “Tyranny Cabins Meeting”. Thriller and Mythology are fighting, while Adventure tries to be the peace barrier.
(Myth) {yells} Well maybe if you hadn't stabbed our backs, we'd still be able to get along!
(Thriller) {offended, lies} Yeah, well, you started this whole thing!
(Myth) {rolls eyes, sarcastic} Oh, really? And how so?
(Thriller) Uhh-
(Adventure) Stop stop stop!
Myth crosses their arms and Thriller turns their back to Adventure and Myth, not wanting to here what Adventure is about to say.
(Adventure) {to Thriller} Hey! Where do ya think you're going? Get you and your sour watermelon candy!
(Thriller) {trudges back, rolls eyes, whispers} I'm gonna go burn down that dumb myth maze!
(Myth) {gasps, offended, shocked} How dare you! You better not! Or I'll steal Harry!
There's a pause of silence. Thriller is shaking with anger, Myth is smirking, and Adventure is cowering under the table.
(Thriller) {whispers angrily} You better not. You better freaking not! Or you are dead! You hear me?! Dead.
(Myth) Then don't burn down my maze! You got that, {pause, musters to come up with an insult} you freak?
Adventure peeks up from where they've been hiding under the table.
(Adventure) {cautiously} Uhh, maybe, we can stop with the insults?
(Myth and Thriller) Shut up!
(Myth) Go back to your dumb park!
Adventure ducks back under the table, hiding tears. Thriller and Myth start walking around the table, glaring at each other with every step.
(Thriller) {sighs} Fine. I won't burn down your du- maze. But there is no stealing Harry, you hear me? {glares}
(Myth) {frowns} And no stealing George, either. {holds out hand}
(Thriller) {mumbles} Not that he can run. {clears throat, speaks louder} I agree.
Thriller takes Myth's held out hand, nodding, and shakes it. They let go quickly. Adventure peeks up from under the table once more, the tears long gone, and stands up.
(Adventure) {laughs nervously} Okay, well, now seeing as that's done, maybe we can sit down and get to business?
Myth and Thriller take their seats, shuffling their papers.
(Myth) {clears throat} I'd like to talk about being siblings with each of you.
Adventure and Thriller's jaws drop.
(Myth) {hiding a smirk} Yep. I think that we could do great things if we ban together. We even have a sibling name, Tyranny.
(Adventure) {smiles} I love it. I say yes.
(Myth) Thriller?
(Thriller) {pause, smiles} I agree.
(Myth) {shuffles papers} Perfect. Now, onto how to make sure our campers go to sleep before 3:00 am?
Everyone laughs and the scene ends.
