Hi! I wanted to see what everyone think about f4f (Follow for follow). Do you think it's a good or bad way to get followers? I don't know if I will do f4f or not.

Imo it's kinda annoying

while f4f does technically help you get more followers, it isn't real followers.
it's hard to explain, but there is more satisfaction by earning followers through you and your content than just doing f4f. a big reason why f4f followers aren't considered to count to your follower count is because you don't earn them, it's like a transaction. earning followers is different. the person who's follow you've earned likes your content and wants to see more, while the f4fer most likely just wanted your follow and doesn't care in the slightest

Just so you know: F4F is entirely allowed. No one on the site can stop you from doing it, as long as you don't spam. Okay.

Personally I don't really do F4F because I only follow users who I want notifications from. On the home page there is a section labeled “What's Happening?” where you can see the activity of people you are following. I like to use this tool to find when my favorite scratchers release a new game project, so I don't follow a lot of people in general.

I think that it is a bad way to get followers. Those followers are not interested in your projects and don't follow you because of that, no, only for getting followers. It's okay if people do it, but I don't like it, that's my opinion.

It depends on who you ask. Some like it, some don't.

F4F is neutral. It can be used for good or bad. It’s completely fine for users to follow each other to help each other out in getting more followers. However, trying to force F4F is not okay. If the transaction can’t be made, you need to move on, or find another user to F4F if you want. Don’t escalate the incident and make it dramatic.

F4F isn't necessarily bad.. but it's viewed negativity by the community.

I would say F4F is neutral. Everyone sees it differently. However, it should be remembered that these are not true followers and it only stimulates the hunger for fame. And it isn't frowned upon by the community.

I do f4f because you get more followers and you get more friends.

The Scratch Team's thoughts on F4F aren't definitive. It merely depends on the context and how a F4F request is conveyed ( https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/396541/ )

You can do F4F in good or bad instances. There is an obvious benefit of doing F4F that is you can get more attention to your profile and farm out followers. However, many people oppose doing F4F. They claim it is an unfair way of acquiring followers, as you do not need to have a certain condition (having “good” projects, for example) in order to gain a follow via F4F-ing. I personally do not do F4F, since I do not have the motivation to answer to every F4F request.

However, people are free to decline F4F requests or to proclaim on their profile that they won't be accepting F4F requests. In a profile which explicitly forbids F4F, F4F requests (and advertisements) is considered spam, so you can get a valid warning for doing so. In default, if a user doesn't say if they allow F4F or not, instances of F4F in their profile is considered spam when reported, so you must have explicit consent to be completely safe from any warnings.

You shouldn't force someone to do F4F nor spam F4F requests. You shouldn't assume that every time, your F4F request would be accepted, so do not be surprised if it is somewhat declined.

This is a very bad way because the followers don't really check your projects!

Personal opinions aside, there's nothing inherently or objectively wrong with F4F. It's just a transaction: if both people agree to it and are happy with the outcome, then good for them. On the other hand, if either person doesn't like it, they have the right to decline.

It only becomes a bad thing if you're spamming or trying to force someone to F4F with you. If someone says they don't do F4F, respect their decision and don't ask them. If you ask someone and they say no, that means no.

Personally, I'm completely against F4F. It's getting popularity for the sake of popularity. It's not actually getting rewarded for your hard work. There's my two-cents on why I'm against F4F.

Would you rather have 200 followers that don't care about your work or have 10 followers that really “follow” you?

In my opinion, doing F4F doesn't make you really earn* followers, in a sense.
And also, some people will do “F4F Scamming” where the scammer asks the victim
to do F4F. If the victim accepts, the scammer will either:

• just not follow back.
  
• the scammer follows the victim and then immediately unfollows to trick them into thinking they followed them.
  

So I don't think F4F is a very good option.
You can if you want to,
But I highly reccommend not doing it, and instead find other ways to get followers.


*by earn, i mean that people actually follow you for a good reason (such as making good projects).

F4F'er: Please F4F with me!
Non-F4F'er: No thanks, I don't really do F4F.
F4F'er: HOW DARE YOU BE SO MEAN!!!!!!!!!!!
Non-F4F'er: I just said no, That's not even mean-
F4F'er: F4F OR ELSE I REPORT YOU!!!!!!

(Okay, clearly this is exaggerated, but you get the point, It just doesn't work out.)
