Is it just me, or do notes like C♭ and E♯ always jump out at you and mess you up?
On the piano you play the same keys as B and F but I don't know if that's the case for woodwinds (I only know high A to low A on my instrument (bass clarinet))

Also, there's the contrabass clarinet which is ridiculously big, even bigger than the bass clarinet, and then the octocontrabass clarinet comes along

For the recorder flute, you can get way more than the usual 12 notes. So there are definitely some cases where Cb and E# are read as different from B and F. Other weird scales include thing like F# and Gb also being two different notes. Recorder scales be wild, sometimes.

I used to hate those notes with a burning passion but now they've grown on me
I think it's worse when you're sightreading and don't really know what notes are coming up.
Yeah that's true, but for me at least when I've played the piece a few times I stop thinking about them and they just blend into the rest of the music
I have a lead sheet that has. Way too many C♭'s and double flats. And I think a B♯ and an E♯ somewhere

flavoured reeds are a thing, and they actually look really cool
unfortunately flutes do not have reeds so i don't get to use them, someone needs to design a flavoured head joint sometime

What a neat idea! Though I do think that would get in the way of playing (at least for me).

If anyone has been dying to play a range and flexibility piece for enjoyment of sorts, look no further! This one is surprisingly fun and completely murders your embouchure.

I'm curious to know what everyone's least favorite “common” key signature is. By “common” I mean that you play it somewhat regularly and it shows up a lot in music. For me, it would have to be D major or anything else with more sharps. The flute just feels like a “flat” instrument, if you know what I mean, even though it is pitched in C.

For me (bass clarinet player) I've only ever played something in C (the instrument is in Bb, tho)

i'm a flute player as well, i definitely agree with the flat part - E♭ and B♭ major are the most common, but the other flat keys also make frequent appearances. i can barely remember anything i play, but i find A major just, uh, intimidating. the strangest part is i barely have a problem with E major or B major (definitely hate anything more), but A major just strikes a bad chord in me for some reason. minor keys or pieces in any other mode or scale are boring and forgettable and i will not write about them because i do not like them

I have a concert tomorrow—wish me luck! Not really excited TBH, mostly just want to get it over with. Don't get me wrong, I *love* playing in band, just not the concerts. I really have to keep the nerves under control.

I think it was actually my favorite concert so far; I wasn't very nervous for some reason, even in my trio and jazz piece. It was actually pretty enjoyable.

Hopefully your performance goes well too, best of luck! Maybe get some last-minute practice in? Anything is better than nothing, even if it is last-minute.

My flute is in for a COA (Clean, Oil, & Adjust) and I'm really excited to see how it's going to turn out! The keys were a bit wonky, and I think the silver plating had gotten a little tarnished, so I can't wait to see how it feels after getting fixed up.

It went well, it was part of an open house thing my school did

I just got it back, and it's super shiny ! It plays a lot nicer now too; the low register sounds better than before. There must have been a leak in the pads or something. *Cue regret for not having done it earlier*

I'm a pianist.
I want to be a drummer.

Why everyone here is off topic ? Even the title is off topic.

(okay I'm cringe sorry)

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say, but I don't think this topic has become offtopic at all.
