Why ST refuses to ban F4F? (My opinion, not verified)

Hi! I am sure you all here are aware of the term ‘follow for follow’ which is commonly abbreviated as F4F by many. Many Scratchers don't like this common practice in Scratch. Quite many scratchers don't allow F4F. According to an article on F4F in Scratch Wiki, it is frequently requested by many people to ban this common practice. However, the ST (Scratch Team) has refused to do so, and the reasons are unknown. In this forum post, I would like to post my opinion as to why the ST refuses to ban practices like F4F.

I request you all that if you disagree with me, please don't send hate comments here or report them. This is completely my opinion and this may not be the truth. It is not my intention to spread rumors and I would just like to discuss it with you as this question has boggled me for months.

First of all, I think the ST refuses to ban F4F because even though our followers are not earned, F4F helps us to connect with scratchers and know about them more. Ever since I started doing it, I have been able to connect with many and I love it! The ST also may refuse to ban it because users who were ignored like kaj (please don't send hate comments regarding kaj,I'll report you if you do) may feel dejected and start doing wrong things even though they are good at their heart Most importantly, ST wants us to enjoy here! After all, followers don't matter. All that matters is having fun and making good projects. That is why scratch was created! Scratch was created to connect with people and make projects to get a good grasp of understanding of programming. It was not meant to be children's social media!

Once again, let me remind you of the following things-

  • I don't hate kaj and ST.
  • This forum post is mainly about Scratch and F4F, so please don't post comments diverting it to something else.
  • This is my opinion, so no controversies.

Thanks, and have a great day ahead!

I feel like the reason they haven’t banned F4F, is because you don’t really gain anything, unlike YouTube’s subscribers which you can gain $, and like you said, it does help the community unite (usually), and yes, programming is more important to them then followers, because in the long run, fame isn’t everything

My best project ever. Please Rate And suggest.

ST will not ban F4F because F4F is harmless and followers help motivate users to make more projects.

The reasons are known, they’re in TOLORS and an announcement that i’m too lazy to link. Basically, it wasn’t banned because it’s harmless, and just doing f4f doesn’t hurt anyone

I think it wasn’t banned because it’s harmless, and but doing f4f doesn’t hurt anyone, so there is no reason to do so.

The practice of “F4F” isn't considered to be against the guidelines. Of course, people regard f4f as an unfair way to gain followers, as you necessarily don't have to possess any talent or skill. If someone doesn't want to partake doing f4f, you can simply politely decline.

Even though it is a fact that f4f is allowed by default, those who do so can be alerted for spamming if you said that you do not partake doing f4f. Some instances of f4f like threatening, forcing or pressuring to follow you back is not permitted.

f4f isn't against the guidelines, but it's not something you should do if you want fame and followers. no one who does that will actually ever see your projects due to no clear motivation to(unlike earned followers who followed you because they liked your content and want to see more).

to put it short f4f is not bad but it's not something you should do

F4F does not break the scratch CG. Although it is “unfair” in terms of gaining followers, fame is not the core of Scratch, rather, programming is. Even I do F4F on my alt account - Here are my terms: “I will do it here to make someone's day. Everyone deserves a follow! And a lot of people ask, too. I know that F4F is looked down upon by a lot of members of the community, but I believe F4F isn't horrible unless people are forcefully asking or spamming. If you spam me with F4F requests and are forceful or rude, I won't do it. I also won't do it if you spam on my main either.”

Please read the community guidelines. It harms no one. This is my opinion, the scratch team has way to much moderation to deal with, I know this because they struggle to respond to all contact us posts.

Ask yourself, if you were hacked and lost hours, upon hours of work, would you regret not having a strong password that only takes 5 minutes to make?

Is it time to update your password? Here are some tips to make a strong password:

Length: The longer the password, the stronger it is. A password that is at least 12 characters long.
Complexity: Combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols to make it harder to crack.
Uniqueness: Don't use easily guessable information like your name, address, or date of birth. Also, avoid using the same password for multiple accounts.
Passphrases: A phrase made up of random words, numbers, and symbols, as these can be easier to remember but still secure.
Randomness: Use a random password generator to create a unique and unpredictable password.
Regular updates: Regularly change your passwords to stay ahead of potential security threats.

Remember, the goal is to create a password that is strong, unique, and difficult for others to guess.

I would estimate more than 40% of scratchers have passwords that are hard to guess by a human, but easy to guess by a computer. You never know if today would be the day you lose everything.

Even if just one person was saved from losing hours and hours of work, my mission is accomplished.
