I just found an old hate comment I had been given because of my affection for the environment.
I really hoped the blocked list would be carried over. I'm really sad now which is too bad because I had almost been able to let it go after all these years and now it's back in my face and I feel terrible about myself.

Why feel terrible about yourself? You're better than them! They should feel terrible about THEMself. But I agree, add back the ignore list.

I just found an old hate comment I had been given because of my affection for the environment. There is a feature where you could report that user. And also, if you reply to the comment now, the layers are UNLIMITED. If the comment was hateful, there is always the report feature.

Yes but it's basically routine that they will then comment again if I don't block them

Well, if they comment the same thing and you report them again and again, then, that scratcher will probably get banned. There is a feature where you could report that user. If they get banned, they won't be able to make that sort of comments. But what if you don't want to see his/her comments in the first place?Well, if they comment the same thing and you report them again and again, then, that scratcher will probably get banned. There is a feature where you could report that user. Well, then there is no way to prevent that until the ignore list is installed. But what if you don't want to see his/her comments in the first place?Well, if they comment the same thing and you report them again and again, then, that scratcher will probably get banned. There is a feature where you could report that user. Just take a quick glance at that comment, and if it seems to be a hateful one then delete it instantly. Thinking of it for too long makes you emo.

I don't think the ignore list needs to be brought over because of this, but there are reasons why the ignore list should be brought over, at least in my experience.
-annoying people: I remember someone who always spoke in a foreign language so he could “learn” the language (probably google translate) even though he spoke English fine
-annoying people: well I guess this is the same thing. Someone did something bad, getting both him and me IP banned, and I later talked to him and he refused to communicate. Actually I don't see why I need to block him but I guess I was trying to show that I had no relationship with him and was not on the same IP as him.
I think ignoring the person/problem is good as it gives you time to cool off and not do/say things when you're mad, so an ignore list would be nice.

Yeah we've been talking about it! The thing about ignore lists is they are really confusing. You can't see stuff by people you've ignored written on other people's projects, so then you get a different view of everything than everyone else does.
Generally, that kind of design makes things really confusing.
As someone mentioned upthread, if someone has done something really mean or disrespectful, and you flag it, we will notify (or possibly immediately block) them. And if it keeps happening, the likelihood of a block goes up. You can also use contact us to let us know if you feel you need to explain what's going on.
Can anyone recommend alternatives to the ignore list - especially that they know work well on other sites? I've heard of “muting” users, temporarily, and that causing them to get an ever increasing score that may eventually block them. But I don't know how well that works….
If people like the way other sites do this, please mention them by name and include screenshots - we'd be interested in learning more.

I would also think that ignoring a user would ignore them on the forums, something that would be problematic as you wouldn't notice part of the discussion. In 1.4, this didn't happen, but now the forums are so integrated into the site that they're part of it.

I don't really see why this would be a big problem. Generally if someone blocks someone else they don't exactly want to see what they've written on other people's projects..

The problem is that then there is a different conversation / interaction happening - and not everyone is on the same page, so to speak. Also, what if the thing they are saying is about the person who is ignoring them?Yeah we've been talking about it! The thing about ignore lists is they are really confusing.
