SWC Weekly #3 - Fantasy

Hello and welcome to the third weekly! I hope you enjoyed exploring different types of news articles. This week, we’re focusing on worldbuilding for various fantasy. A few of our wonderful leaders have made workshops covering important aspects to consider!

You may start writing towards this weekly at 12:01 am on the 17th of July, UTC.

Part 1: High Fantasy and Worldbuilding (written by Lio)

For the first part of this weekly, we’ll be looking at the subgenre of high fantasy and completing an expertise in worldbuilding. Before beginning, read this workshop about high fantasy worldbuilding.

After doing so, brainstorm at least 20 possible facets for a high fantasy setting. These don’t need to be well thought out and there is no word requirement for the list. Try to include a variety of types of aspects, from literal terrain to magical expectations to societal norms.

Next, in 200 words or more, explain the connections between at least 10 of your brainstormed ideas in one fantasy world. Add detail to your ideas and flesh out the setting, but don’t add any characters or plot.

Finally, write 400 words of a narrative taking place in this setting. Incorporate various details of the world you have created into the story.

Here’s my example, though it’s not quite as long as your writing will be.
Brainstorming
  • Desert setting
  • Small country ruled by monarchy
  • Large empire with elected emperor
  • Focus on community success (as a society)
  • Magical traveling river
  • Lack of sense of humor (as a society)
  • Two rival families
  • General cottagecore aesthetic
  • Disdain for competition (as a society)
  • Soft magic system, rarely used
  • Importance of politeness and propriety (as a society)
  • Diet based around plants, especially fruits like mangos
  • Fox as a symbol of evil
  • Cactus as a symbol of good
  • Rejection of non-scholars
  • Children as honorable and innocent
  • City of Gold
  • Romance as unimportant
  • Entertainment generally frowned upon
  • Shoemakers as the most honored career

Connections, using the bolded items
Distant from the oceans and mountains of other regions of the continent is the Rosent Desert, where lies the small kingdom of Amnet. Governed by a kind and proper queen, this monarchy has long flourished where others have failed due to their focus on collaboration, cooperation, and scholarship. Those with a disdain for knowledge or a spirit for competition are generally outcast from the society of Amnet, often moving to the large cities and conflicting kingdoms of the coast. The population of Amnet is lower than one million, nearly half of which directly work for the monarchy as scholars in magic or science.
Other than those working for the monarchy, there are a variety of careers and roles in society which members may find themselves in. Of these, shoemakers are considered the most honored and important. Amnet has a bit of an obsession with shoes, believing that the right pair of shoes can lead someone, and their kingdom by extension, to success. Prospective shoemakers are apprenticed and taught directly in small groups, and it takes years of training to actually become a licensed cobbler.
Due to living in such an unwelcome place, all forms of life are treated with the utmost respect and honor, and the consumption of animals is quite frowned upon. Thus, their diet is mainly composed of plants and cacti are seen as a symbol of peace and prosperity of their kingdom. Most activities outside take place either at dawn or dusk, with the population remaining within doors during the extremes of the day and night.
Magic is mostly unknown and unknowable, and most members of this society either have no ability to use it or no desire to. However, it is commonly known that the landscape of their kingdom contains a great deal of magic. A magical traveling river, which can never be found in the same position twice, is the most obvious display of this terrain magic and for, most in the kingdom, reverence towards the river is the closest they have to a religion.
Collaborative relationships, especially between friends and partners, are greatly valued in Amnet. On the other hand, romantic relationships are pushed aside as unimportant. They are not rejected, but they are not placed on a pedestal either. Marriage is not a union held up in law or socially.

Narrative
Never had I seen such a marvelous sight as a sunset over the edge of the Rosent Desert. Though I had spent years traveling the remainder of our grand world, Amnet would always be my true home and heart. From the very edges of the harsh desert to the center of capital, the grand jewel of the kingdom, Amnet never ceases to amaze.
While I had, from a young age, been unfit to live properly in Amnet, due to my despise of spending long days inside, I never stopped returning to my home. No matter how much it seemed to hate me, I kept coming back. One such visit, I believe, reveals the manner of my love.
It was when I was nearly thirty, far past the threshold of adulthood, alone in the world but for my memories and my stories. My thoughts often wandered towards my home; my homesickness was omnipresent and difficult to manage. I longed for the fruits and salads of Amnet, nothing like the far harsher cuisines of the coast. I missed the architecture, blending beautifully with the landscape. I desired to see the people again, my family, my friends.
Thus, I returned for the first time to the land of my heart.
I found there that almost nothing had changed. My memories all rung true. None of my friends cared much to hear of my travels, far more focused on their own accomplishments and my future. I was pleased to learn that several now possessed careers as scholars in the queen’s universities, and even more so impressed that two had taken up apprenticeships in an honored cobbler’s shop. My family were overjoyed to see me again, though my absence had been no strain on them. And, quite to my surprise, my sister had found herself engaged romantically with one of her lifelong friends.
It was on this first visit home that I decided: never again would I allow myself to go a year without returning to Amnet, the lovely desert monarchy which holds my heart.

Part 2: Magical Realism (written by Zura)

In this section, you will be learning about Magic Realism. Check out this workshop created by the brilliant Lily! After that, you will complete a questionnaire. You only need to answer ten of the questions, and each of the questions will be answered with 80 words, which is a minimum of 800 words total.

Part 3: Joint Workshop (written by Birdi)

In this section, you will be reading this joint workshop made by the amazing Sun, Cae, Gee, Willow, and Moss <3 on fantasy genres. Once you have read the workshop, pick three of the genres and write three different 300 word pieces for each one, so 900 words in total. Examples of each genre are below.

Steampunk Fantasy example (Written by Zai)

Turning the corner, Axel approaches the locked room, key in hand. He had been told Jarvis would be in this room completing unfinished business, and it would have been rather impolite to interrupt his studies, but alas, Axel had an important request to make.

Inserting the key into the lock, the gears on the door begin to turn. Panels begin to fold away from the doorway and after a few grunts and creaks from the contraption, Axel walks into the dark room. He makes a mental note to offer Jarvis more lubrication grease to quiet his door.

“Good evening, Jarvis. Apologies for this untimely interruption, I could not have waited any longer.” Axel walks to a nearby oil lamp, retrieves a matchbox from his leather belt and lights the lamp, turning the knob to make sure the fire is at a lower setting. “It appears you relish working in the dark?”

Jarvis swivels on his chair to face Axel, taking off his night-vision goggles, and opening a small latch to release the trapped steam. “Salutations, Axel. It's not a bother, I had just finished typing up the patent and was interested in a break regardless.”

Snuggly nesting his goggles around the mauve ribbon around his top hat, Jarvis stores the typewriter in a nearby cabinet. He gathers his papers and places them in the overhead compartment above his desk. “I prefer to work in the dark. It aids in… innovation. How is the engine room fairing?”

Axel shakes his head, clearly not interested in discussing the details of his work. “I am not too keen to continue repairing the various pistons that break at the most undesirable times, but I still adore my occupation; it is only difficult every so often.”

“You should sit. I have plenty of chairs in here for you to choose,” Jarvis says, noticing Axel incessantly pacing around the room. “Is everything fine? Has the engine worked you up that unfavorably? The airship is hosting a dance tonight; you should attend. It would keep your mind off of whatever's troubling you.”

Axel reaches into a back pocket, recovering a slip of paper. “That was precisely what I was worried about.” He hands the slip of paper over to Jarvis. “It's an invitation to the dance. I was hoping you would be down to tango.”

“Why, yes. I would like to take you up on that offer.”

—-

Clockwork gears turn in the ceiling of the ballroom. The chandelier projects enthralling shadows of the waltzers, and the extending pistons and valves fire along to the tempo of the dancefloor. Axel scans the room for Jarvis and feels a light tap on his shoulder.

“Perhaps you are looking for me?” Jarvis grins, extending out his hand. Axel eagerly accepts, wrapping his arm around Jarvis's shoulder.

“I would be looking for more than just your face after this is over,” Axel fires back, sidestepping to match Jarvis's movement. “How does the airship balcony sound?”

“Perfect, if it were not for the harpies that would shred us outside.” Jarvis takes the lead, dipping Axel before hoisting him upright. “I do have my energy cannon with me though if you were to wish to sneak off for an extended moment.”

“Why I can defend myself; my cane may or may not have an extendable blade at the end,” Axel whispers, leaning forward so Jarvis can hear. “It's in my front pocket right now.”

Just as Axel is about to give Jarvis a twirl, a sudden gunshot rings loudly throughout the ballroom. From the entrance, a man points a pistol towards the ceiling, smoke rising from the barrel. The machinery above is still functional, but a few of the gears shake disturbingly.

“Get behind me; I can protect you,” Jarvis tells Axel, but he pushes him aside.

“As I said, I can defend myself.“

The unwelcomed intruder trots to the center of the room, letting out a few more gunshots into the ceiling. A few of the dancers scream hysterically while others remain frozen. The machinery above lets out a final squeak before it is rendered motionless. The man devilishly grins, spinning his pistol in loops around his index finger.

”Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to your last night on your fabulous airship. I believe it's showtime!"

Dystopian Fantasy example (Written by Birdi)

Every day at exactly 20:00, I crawl into my bed and under the covers so that anyone who might be watching the camera in my room thinks that I’m asleep. Then I carefully pile the blankets on top of each other so that it looks like I’m still lying there, crawl through the hastily made sliding bed frame, and finally lower myself through the trapdoor and into the tunnels.
I hurry along the tunnel – which is unmonitored because it’s nearly collapsed and it’s extremely dangerous to be down here anyway – for a short distance until I start to see the glow of a practicing magi. I heave a breath of relief, as I always do, and I speed up to meet her. We embrace and then we practice together. She manipulates air, and I move things. Or I attempt to. Someday perhaps I’ll be strong enough to fortify the tunnels, but for now I work with lifting small objects.
The government has outlawed magis of any sort. We’re risking our lives in this little passage underneath the ground, but that’s because we both believe in something bigger than ourselves. Someday our talents might come in useful, but not without practice. Around midnight, we bid each other goodbye, and I lift myself back into bed as quietly as I can. I wouldn’t call myself ready for another routine day, but I’ll get through it.

Urban Fantasy example (Written by Zai)

The subway arrives at Canal Street. I look behind me. I know he's not behind me, but I can never be too sure.

I run out of the train and onto the platform. I leave behind the “stay clear of the closing doors” voice and maneuver my way around the pedestrians.

Is he here? Is he following me? I have to keep moving. He could be watching me from anywhere.

I hurry through the turnstile and make my way up the stairs. The tiled walls of the subway give me an uneasy feeling; he could be watching, he could be watching…

I climb out of the underground and into the open. There's the sound of cars and rushing passersby. I put on my sunglasses, tuck my hands into my pockets, and keep moving. It appears I'm in the Chinatown area of Manhattan. There's a mix of English and Chinese characters on the signs of nearby stores.

Suddenly, I feel a tug on my backpack. I try to shake the person off, but he covers my mouth with his hand.

“Don't fight it,” he tells me, trying to grab ahold of my hand. “Let me hold your hand.”

“Let go of me, Zane!” I try to speak, but all that comes out are muffled noises. Zane finally snatches my hands, and before I know it, I can feel my limbs tugged in all directions. The world around me spins. I feel like I'm going to vomit.

We're teleported to a back alleyway. Zane lets go of me. I spit at him.

“Zane, I told you not to follow me; we've already gone over this. The Supernos; almost all of them are corrupt by now. There's nothing we can do to change that. I'm not going to help,” I tell him, pushing him aside and walking back towards the street.

“You can't be serious; what about Fleur? And Shayna? They're waiting on us. We can come up with a plan, we can–”

I close my eyes briefly and reach for something. I try to latch onto Zane's presence, trying to grab ahold of something, anything… and it clicks. I push as hard as I can.

“Matthew, what the heck was that for?”

I look behind me and see Zane at the far end of the alleyway, on the floor next to the dumpster. “I told you, it's not going to work. I'm out. You're on your own now.”

Science Fantasy Example (Written by Sawyer)

“I’m going to get lunch.” Cacklegordon shut her laptop and pushed her chair back. “Want anything?”
Crawfordbroom shook his head. “I can’t shake the feeling that I’m so close to figuring this out.”
Cacklegordon laughed. Crawfordbroom had been staring at the same bones on his computer for over an hour and she couldn’t imagine what he was going to find if he just continued staring. “Alright then!” She threw a bag over her shoulder and headed for the door of the shared office. As she put her hand on the doorknob, the door swung open.
Harilda stood in the doorway. They were a tall engineer who worked at the same science institute. “Good afternoon!” they said with a grin.
“Afternoon?” Crawfordbroom called from the desk. “I could’ve sworn I’d only been here for an hour.”
“It does feel like that sometimes, doesn’t it?” Harilda agreed. “But I wouldn’t have been able to finish this” — they pulled a metallic walkie talkie out of their pocket — “if it was only 10 am!”
Cacklegordon gasped. “Is that for the time machine?”
Harilda nodded quickly. “It’s finished!”
Crawfordbroom slammed his laptop shut and grabbed a backpack that hung from the back of his chair. He threw it over his back. Barely a second after, he put it back on the chair and dug through it.
“Notebooks, pencils, camera, clay…” he muttered. Then he looked at Cacklegordon: “Is that everything?” he asked.
Cacklegordon furrowed her brow. “I think so. But we don’t need to leave right now, do we? I still need lunch!”
“Oh that’s it —we need food!” Crawfordbroom zipped up the backpack and put it on his back. “Well, let’s stop at the cafeteria and get plenty of food for the trip. Then we can get going!”

At the cafeteria, they filled a few tupperwares with various soups and salads. Cacklegordon grabbed a plate, but Crawfordbroom stopped her.
“We don’t have time for lunch now!” he said. “We have to get to the time travel machine to see the dinosaurs!”
Cacklegordon shook her head. She couldn’t see the rush, but she put back the plate. “Fine, let’s get going then.”
They put the containers into a grocery bag and went to Hiralda’s office.
The time machine was a giant metal box that almost reached the ceiling. The door was open, and the two paleontologists peered in.
It was dark at first, but Hiralda reached in and flipped a lightswitch. At one end of the box was a small screen and a few dials, while at the other were two seats with large plastic restraints, like those you’d see at an amusement park. Crawfordbroom started adjusting the dials.
“And you’ve tested this?” Cacklegordon asked Hiralda.
Crawfordbroom raised his eyebrows at her. “Of course they have! Come on, we’ve got no time to waste.”
He shut the door before Hiralda could say anything, and then sat down. Cacklegordon sat down and pulled down the restraints. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything, Crawfordbroom pressed a big red button between the two seats.
They were plunged into pitch black before colored spots popped up and disappeared in their vision, as if they had just looked at a bright light and then closed their eyes. The time machine became hot enough that they started to sweat. When the lights came back on, their hair was frazzled and standing up.
They both sat there recovering from nausea for a few minutes before standing up. Cacklegordon stood up first. Almost immediately, she rested her arm on the chair. She took a few deep breaths and then opened the door.
A man wearing a tall blue hat with stars and flowing blue robes sat in a golden throne. Boiling cauldrons sat on either side of him, and in his lap he held a crystal ball. As Cacklegordon stepped out of the machine, he gasped.
“It worked!”

Hidden Worlds Example (Written by Sawyer)

Brook pushed her blonde hair behind her ear and opened her math book. As she began working on the first homework problem, she sighed. Her dog, Nancy, was lying next to her and Brook patted her on the head. When she looked back at the page, words were appearing. She rubbed her eyes. What? she thought. She closed the book. After a few seconds, she reopened it and found that the problem had been finished for her. She stood up to get a drink of water. Maybe she just had a headache and was imagining it. As she walked down the hallway to the kitchen, she spotted herself in the mirror. Her hair was bright pink — now purple! and now orange! — and her skin appeared to be covered in rainbow glitter. She screeched in surprise.
“Brook?” her mom called from the kitchen. “Is everything okay?”
She stepped into the kitchen. “My skin is—”
“Itchy? Bumpy? Dry?” her mom interrupted, looking at her with concern.
“Uhh no,” Brook answered. “Glittery?”
Had the glitter disappeared? Brook got a glass of water and then went to look in the mirror again. Her skin was still glittery. Could her mom not see it?
She got back to her desk and found that all of her math homework had been completed.
How convenient! she decided. Glad to be done with it, she opened her computer to work on her novel. She stared at the screen. Maybe I should go look at writing memes instead, she thought. That sounds productive!
Brook leaned back in her chair and let her vision blur. In the blink of an eye, she was being sucked into a rainbow tornado that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. She took a look around her room before all she could see was rainbows.

She found herself lying on dry, hard dirt. Above her was the ceiling of a large granite cave. She sat up and examined her surroundings. A few purple and pink stones lay near the walls and water dripped from the ceiling. A drop landed next to her and she stood up.

Part 1:

Everyone has no spines
There are no bugs
No ruler/president/monarchy
No laws
Robots take over the jobs
All cars are electric
We all listen to one genre of music
Kingdom where everyone is wealthy and has what they need
A place where there are no electronics
Max of children is three kids
90% of our day is spent on the devices
The castle of the kingdom is made entirely out of candy
Glasses aren’t a thing, Contacts are the new fad
A world that is always 50 degrees fahrenheit
Every home was made of a steel frame to prevent fires
Droughts aren’t a thing
Fishes can talk
You don't have to get a drivers license
College is shortened a year
The whole story is based off of the people in a video game

Connections:
229 Words
So this is basically all about the setting and such. I want a kingdom where droughts aren’t a thing, the castle is made of candy, there are NO LAWS, where it’s always 50 degrees, and where there are terrible drivers that happen to be fish that play the same genre of music over and over again on the radio! People also don’t have spines, so they slither to get around and since they have to go on the floor, there aren’t any bugs disturbing them as the slither. This world will have cars coming from everywhere because there aren’t any driving laws nor do any of them have a driver's license! Also, guess what? Since the fish have to visit the pond every once and a while, there won’t ever be a drought since they have an unlimited supply of water! And guess what? You’re playing this fun game called Candy Fish Racing while all the people are inside the game and you’re controlling them! You’re driving the fish car to pick up all the customers while you drive crazily and it’s quite cold. The King and queen of the candy castle order you to go pick up these customers. The customers slide into your car when you pick them up. Then the fish will play constant K-pop and super happy music as they drive you to your destination.

Narrative:

I opened up the doors to the arcade. A blast of music and clicking buttons rushed into my ears. I walked to the counter to buy some tokens to play. They were only five cents each so I bought at least twenty. There was a new game that came out a few days ago. Candy Fish Racing? It was the biggest stand and it had two wheels and seats that you could drive the car with. I ran over and placed my tokens in. There was most likely going to be a very long line when it got toward lunch-time since it was a new game. I clicked the Go button and it started the game. The seat started to rattle as if it were trying to out me in the actual experience. I revved the engine and used the pedal to move forward. The game counted down. Three two one… GO! I stepped on the game pedal super hard and drove quickly to pick up my first customer. They were on the far side of the map so that took a long time to get them. I sped up and grabbed the customer. I brought them to their destined destination, and right after that king and queen candy tell me (a fish) to go to the next destination. The temperature showed it as 50 degrees, so everyone in the game was wearing hats. I was horrendous at the game. I couldn’t even drive straight! I grabbed my customer and clumsily drove to their destination. Now the king and queen ordered me to take a dip in the pond. Easy, I saw so many ponds on the map as I picked up customers. I made my character drive to the nearest pond within seconds! Well I was speeding and couldn’t drive safely. I jumped out of the car and jumped into the pond water for some energy and some hearts, so when I fail a customer, I don’t die in the game. I revved the engine and grabbed a customer. Apparently the customer wasn’t satisfied because I sped too much and didn’t stay in the lines. Eventually I got so many bad reviews that I ran out of hearts. I had the top score of the game! Please keep it! I thought to myself. Luckily everyone that tried the game really sucked. I must be the master fish driver. Huh.

Part 2:

What kind of magic is used in your world?

My world uses mind powers. This gives a character the ability to do things with their mind, such as turning in the television or telling Alexa to start the dishwasher. This helps the character do things when they’re lazy. This power could possibly be pretty useful. Characters use this power pretty much everyday and this can help protect the character, because this gives them the power to hold the victims up such as how Vecna held up his victims. The whole world has this power but they use it in different ways. 93 words

How is the magic in the world used in the character’s everyday lives? What are the different abilities?

So the magic in this world can help the characters in their everyday lives by allowing the person to get necessities without standing up. It’s basically an Alexa but it’s much easier. All you have to do is think. Some people have the ability to use this power aggressively, and others can’t. The aggressive ones can get a better grasp of the item from their mind. The connectivity is much stronger. The others are just the opposite of the aggressives. 80 words

What are the laws of your world, specifically about magic? Punishments?

So if you ever use your magic for wrong, you’re probably in big trouble with the kingdoms king, queen, and monarchies. You will most likely be escorted to the town hall with a trial. The judge of the kingdom decides whether you go to prison or not. You usually get sentenced to prison for a while. It’s pretty much like the real world, except if you even hurt a person with your powers for pretty much no apparent reason, you’re going to spend the next three months in prison. So abusing or misusing your power can lead to consequences, that’s why so many are in their prison. 108 words

What is the origin of your world?

The world was originally a random empty landfill that no one used back-then. It had green grass and flowers everywhere. There were also a lot of weeds. The fairies have come past this land and decided to build on it. There was no one using it, so it could be a free land for them. The fairies immediately claimed the land and started to build little roads, castles, and homes. But, an evil witch didn’t like how they just claimed this land. She cursed them to become a part of a video game. She moved them up to the sky on a piece of land and moved all their homes and buildings onto the land. They had walking fishes up there, so they had to be the most creative with their game. After several centuries they have gotten cozy up there and enjoy their everyday work. 146 words

How common is magic, and are all characters aware they possess it?

About everyone has magic except the ones that had their magic removed from their bodies. And about three quarters know about their powers, of course newborns don’t know about it, so some people have it and some people don’t. The people that were born without powers do not belong to the kingdom, instead they were brought here by the fairies because their parents didn’t want them, or they just left to get milk. This world is very generous and takes them in. They all have a nice life together after, powers or none. 93 words

What is a folk tale you have heard that involves magic, and how can you take inspiration from that tale?

I know that many folk tales involve magic, but out of all of them, I’ll choose Cinderella. We all know that the Fairy Godmother pops up and helps Cinderella go to the ball with her magic right? So I took inspiration from this because all the fairies in this world have the ability to do that. However they don’t actually use it. This also gave me some ideas for the Mind powers because she just thought of what she wanted to happen and poof with a wave of her wand and a bibity bopity boo, boom! Cinderella is beautiful now. I chose to simplify the power though, only making them think and not using a wand. 116 words

Compared to our modern society, what do the characters do differently in your world, now that magic is incorporated?

Since magic is incorporated into this story, things have to change a little. For example, in this world, it’s pretty common to see a Seven Eleven at almost every corner. This Seven Eleven holds magic tips and the slurpees help boost the wizards energy and confidence. This world has super new technology. You know how at bus stations there’s a big map? To see the route? Basically their bus stations have this, but it’s a tablet. All you have to do is tell the tablet where you plan to go and it tells you the correct bus to jump onto. 100 words

What happens when magic gets out of control in your world?

The government tries to perfect it with their powers over the world, but usually they’re a little lazy so they can’t get there on time. But this world doesn’t have a time when magic gets out of control. Sometimes it's out of control, a little chaotic, but it’s pretty common. There’s a lot of kids learning how to use their powers, so it’s common to see mailboxes falling out of the sky. These children are learning how to hold it with their mind then lifting it up then dropping it. So this world can be a little chaotic. It makes it harder for the driver. 105 words

What are some slang terms or other words used in your world that are related to magic?

For example we all know that Harry Pooper used magic words. Or is it Harry Potter? Well, those suckers, this world doesn’t even has to say a magic word. The government thinks its quite weird for someone to use a word to lift up a bus. But there are a few slang words that mean a certain magic word. For example Abra cadabra. Pretty simple, I know. But did you know there’s a whole meaning behind it? It means that they can lift up anything that’s smaller than a fridge. Since it’s simple. 93 words

Does magic affect the government of your world? If so, how?

It does! The government became a bit lazier because so many people started to use their powers. The government got somewhat influenced and stopped doing their job properly. Even the king can’t help himself! He started to use his powers and stopped doing his paperwork. The government has been falling apart due to the lowers being given to us. All of the assistants have basically become children and nobody gives that many laws. Just pick your dog doo from the streets like actual decent people. 85 words

Part 3:

Urban Fantasy:

Humans walk around in the area. There are so many apartment buildings and tall landscapes. There were also humans floating in the air? Yes, welcome to the land of New City.

New City’s citizens have special powers. This city is looked over by fairies and many other magical creatures. Most of the citizens are humans, but however there are fish humans too. They can walk and talk just like regular humans, but they’re in different bodies. This land is super clean because some humans decide to just float in the air and go to work that way instead of walking. That takes way too much work. For those that don’t like to float to work, they grab a taxi operated by fish humans and drive to work. There are no speed limits or driving laws, so it can be a chaotic ride. This whole world was innocent and really liked everyone except this one fairy. They were evil and just didn’t like being around other people. So one day they decided to curse this town. It became dark and mysterious, and no one was happy. The good fairies started a fight against this. They started to fight physically and verbally about why it should be bright and happy. But of course the evil fairy didn’t listen. The good fairies and the evil one had a physical fight with their powers. They grunted and tried hard to defeat each other. Of course the good fairies won because there were many more of them and the evil fairy was defeated. They put all their magic together to fix the city. All though the evil fairy could do something and try to change the world to depressed mode again, they would never be able to defeat the fairies. It was one too many. The town has always been happy, and back to normal after.

Hidden Worlds:

The world was normal again. There was no more evil fairy and the fishes were back to their normal. Being taxi drivers. They were terrible at driving, but no one really cared, as there were no driving laws or speed limits. The fish speed drove and got the customer to their destination. The fish said see you and went on to the app to grab another customer. Luckily they were only a block away, so he rushed there and picked them up. The mysterious person said hello quietly. The fish greeted him with such excitement it scared the person. The person said to the fish to stop being so happy. The fish asked why he was depressed and not happy. The fish had already been gone though. He seemed as if he was in a world that was red. The whole sky was red. There were vines crawling everywhere and there was a girl being hung by the vines. She couldn’t talk though, the vines were inside her mouth. Going inside her ears and whatever was open. The fish screamed and started to run. He saw people like that everywhere he went in this place. He ran and fell down by a whole clump of vines. They grabbed the fish by his legs and hung him up like everyone else. He tried super hard to escape, but obviously there was no one that could save him, and he wasn’t a fair match toward the vines. No one saw him ever again after that. The mysterious man hasn’t been seen either. To this day everyone in New City knows about this legend. That’s why fish now have security cameras on their suits and are told to match the energy of the person they’re picking up. No events like this have happened again. 301 words

Dystopian Fantasy:

There was once a dark time in this world. A time where everyone was afraid of being robbed, or being framed for a crime. This time was called the Dark Times.
It was a quiet day in New City. People were at work and the fairies were having a council meeting today. The fairies had started to start their meeting. They were suggesting what should improve for the city. Suddenly, a dark cloud has formed over the sky. A fairy flies down and claims that this should be her land and not ours. The good fairies look worried and make a broadcast about people staying where they were and going inside. The evil fairy cackled and made the storm grow bigger and bigger. Then, people started to fall from the sky. They were landing on alleys, rooftops, and more. They were all wearing the same mask. A ghost mask? Everyone ran in and locked their doors. The ones that weren’t at their homes and staying at their workplace got their homes robbed. There were now a big crime rate rising that year and many people got murdered. This had to end. The fairies were finding a solution to get the bad guys back to their home. They realized that they can put a potion in the air to open a portal back to the crime people’s home. They would be attracted to the pattern in the portal and go to it immediately. They set the potion into the air and it opened the portal. The criminals were hypnotized and were attracted to the portal. Luckily this never happened again for the kingdom of New City. The criminals were gone and everything went back to normal. The stuff that they stole never came back though. And the kingdom still doesn’t know where it went. 303 words
