There's cloud variables, but it would make it easier if there were cloud lists for storage keeping

I concur - I want them too.

However, I also have a reasonable amount of experience running a server, and know that setting up anything more complicated than numbers can get weird. While strings aren't that hard (and I don't see why they couldn't have enabled those too, unless there's something I don't know about Mongo), storing a data type that doesn't exist natively on the server is harder. A Mongo server (to my knowledge) can only store strings and numbers. Because of this, the Scratch Team needs to program their own way to store lists over multiple rows, and a system to manage them. This can take a while, as it is a fairly complicated task.

They were able to program their own system, it just did not work properly. They are now working on making one that does, and they have to extensively error check it, which takes a while.
