Hey Scratchers! <3 I thought I'd share an updated guide on Requests for 2022, with all you need to know in one location. If I missed anything, just pop a suggestion in the chat & I'll edit the post. Let's get started!

[Requesting in a shop vs creating a topic]

Shops
A shop will be able to meet your basic needs, which includes: (but is not limited to) Thumbnails, profile pictures, banners, OCs, logos, intro/outros, and more. With a few exceptions, you'll find that most shops are geared towards design. That is not to say you can't request code scripts at a shop, though- Just check the shop's description first, to make sure that what you want to request is one of the things the shop specializes in.

So if what you need is geared towards art, logos, or small scripts of code, you'll get a reply quicker if you request in a shop.

New Topic
Now if you are needing a larger or more advanced piece of something, whether that is cloud variable code, multiple sprites, voice actor/actress, etc., you may want to create your own topic. These are things that perhaps a shop can't cover, or you need multiple Scratchers to help.



How to Create a Successful Request Topic


Pinpoint Your Exact Request
Before you create your New Topic, it's important you know exactly what you need.

For example, let's say you are creating an animation, but you suddenly realize that you don't have any voices for the characters! So you would need to write down how many different voices you'd need, whether they should be female or male (to match their specific role in the animation) and what lines the actors/actresses need to record. Once you have that information, you can create your request!


Create a “New Topic”
In the Requests forum, you'll see blue button in the top right corner that says “New Topic.” Click that button to start a new topic/thread. There are two main components of a topic:

1. The Subject (also known as the title!)
2. The Message
(The message space is where you'll type in your request, more on that later.)


Writing an Eye-Catching Title
The subject line is where you type in your title. Now the title is extremely important as this is the very first thing people see. If the title is clear, understandable, and friendly, there is a better chance that Scratchers will click on your topic & to read more about your request!

How can you create a great title? Well, titles are also known as “ the Subject.” So, whatever your request is, that will help determine what to title your new topic.

Here are some examples!

Example 1
(I am in need of two male voice actors for an animation series)

GOOD TITLE EXAMPLES:
“>> Need Male Voice Actors! | Two Slots Available! | Animation Series <<”
“Need Two Male Voice Actors - For Animation Series”

BAD TITLE EXAMPLES
“voice act for me”
“NEED ACTORS NOW FOR SERIES HURRY!!”
“help me w/ series need acturs”

Do you see the differences? The good title examples share enough information that tells Scratchers that they need 2 male voice actors for an animation series, while being clean & easy to read.
Meanwhile, the bad title examples are not clear, seem rushed, and some of the words are incorrectly spelled! This shows that the person was not putting a lot of effort into the post.

Message Box
The large white space beneath the subject line is where you can put your request in! Be as specific as what the request needs. To help you create the best request message, here are 4 tips!

TIP ONE!
Be friendly! Say a little “Hello everyone! I'm ______. Thank you so much for taking a look at my request!” and greet your fellow Scratchers! <3

TIP TWO!
Split your paragraphs into easy-to-read chunks! No need to enter a new line for every sentence, but every 3-4 sentences, split it up! This makes it easier on the eyes, and frankly, more professional!

TIP THREE!
Use bold, italics, and underline sparingly. It's good to get your ideas across, but try not to constantly be using lots of effects on your text like this!

TIP FOUR!
Credit your lovely Scratchers for their help! Thank them! <3 They just took time out of their schedule to help fulfill your request. Let them know you appreciated them!

EXTRA TIP!
If your request hasn't been noticed in 24-48 hours, you can give them a “bump!” B.U.M.P stands for “Bring Up My Post” and does exactly as it says! Use this sparingly though, or else it is considered spam.

To “bump” your topic, simply comment bump on your post. That's about it!
