For example, “bombing a school” is not okay to say on scratch. So I assume the limit is a bit under that.

Topics can be far more lighthearted on April Fool's Day. They don't need to be related to the forums. However, the community guidelines still apply. You can never post hate speech, reveal personal information, or link to spaces with unmoderated chat systems.

Don't do it. We don't want a repeat of last year where a lot of users were denied help because the forums got flooded and mods spent a lot of time cleaning up instead of other reports. You're better off making an April Fools project instead of a joke forum topic.

Sorry but joke topics should not be discouraged, there are only 2 days a year to have some banter on the forums instead of being serious all the time, and I am sure a lot of people realised that it was not a normal day on the forums, or scratch. Most people did joke topics fine, and there was just a small minority who thought it was acceptable to spam.

If it follows the community guidelines then it should be fine.

Haven't Scratch Team members themselves made joke topics on April Fools Day? For example, last year, Za-Chary made a joke topic and many posts. At the time, he was a Forum Moderator.

I don't think it's a good idea to ruin a tradition that's existed for over a decade (with support from the Scratch Team). Also, April Fools Day is very soon and many people (including me) have been looking forward to it for a year.

Finally, here's the joke topic that Za-Chary made

Edit: Removed a mistake

C'mon! There is only one April fool's day each year, we forumers were being like free customer support for ST for an entire year and we're all waiting for this day to have some fun, only for ST to go like “nope”. I'm pretty sure a ST member (Zachary) even created a joke topic a few years back, I entirely agree with what @dertermenter said, the April fool's topics is not that much of a problem if we don't intentionally harm people and close all the prank topics after April fool's day.

I agree that what Cheddargirl wrote is not what we’d normally expect to hear given that the Scratch Team usually bends over backwards to let us be creative within the community guidelines. And I’m one of the people that took Ceebee’s April’s Fool’s announcement last year to mean for the whole site, not just for projects.

But sometimes the Scratch Team has to define the limits just because of what can be managed by their team. And I’d guess most of the cleanup last year was done by Za-Chary who isn’t here this year, so that’s also changed.

But, yes, it was fun while it lasted.

Right. They were saying that spamming is against Community Guidelines. However, harmless joke topics on April Fools Day has been a tradition on Scratch for over a decade, and has been encouraged by the Scratch Team many times. This is an abrupt (and unnecessary) 180 from that, and possibly a disappointing end to a long-running tradition.

Stuff like nuclear bombs can't be joked about because:
A) It's a very sensitive topic.
And
B) The Russian-Ukrainian war is happening, and that's serious.

That's an example of something that can't be joked about on April Fool's Day, or any other day.

Right, but a Scratch Team member just said not to make any joke posts on April Fools Day.

I think it's on topic. The debate is about what the question's answer is, or more accurately, if the question is relevant.
