scratch 2.0 VS scratch 3.0
by deadlock47 and ToadTV
I Am a scratcher i discovered scratch back in 2016 but did not make my main account (my account now) till 2019. I coded a bit in scratch 2.0 and it was really good but when scratch 3.0 came out after i came back but something was off. “3.0 is a bit problematic. It feels like using a beta, except it's the full site and there's no way to avoid it.” I do think that 3.0 was a step down from 2.0 due to the fact 2.0. had a lot more features than 3.0 has and 3.0 feels so much of a step down i feels like its a beta. “My main issue is that there are tons of missing features that we had in 2.0: remix trees, tags, sound editor features, save to local file, project restore, centering in costume editor, embedding projects, and numerous other things I'm sure.
Is it too much to ask to have the new version at least include the features of the old one?” My biggest problem with 3.0 is that it was rushed and it seemed like they did it last minute. I also hate the fact they removed tags and sound editor features. i think ToadTV put it together perfectly. “I hope that 3.0 can be improved, because visually, it does look more modern, if less functional, and HTML5 is much better than Flash. The new project pages are nice, aside from the lack of an ability to see the remix tree or even a complete list of remixes and studios. Oh, and one more thing: the “revamped” or “improved” or whatever backpack is exactly the same as before, minus whatever we had in it. Next time, I'd have a clearer message, perhaps something that appears in our inbox, that they were going to be wiped. A featured project could be easily missed and I'm lucky to have seen it.”
so yes in my opinion I think 2.0 was better in some ways, in other ways 3.0 was better but overall 3.0 is very disappointing. I know this is A old topic but this was a topic I was thinking about for a while and i did not know if I wanted to talk about it till now. I was going to talk about it a few months ago but I did not due to the fact I have a lot of stuff to do.
if you read all of this thank you I hope scratch fixes this, they will probably not though but I hope they do.

scratch 2.0 VS scratch 3.0
Here's what I found.
Scratch 3.0 contains:
339 Sprites,
85 Backdrops,
886 Costumes,
and 353 Sounds.
However, Scratch 2.0 contains:
370 Sprites,
96 Backdrops,
705 Costumes,
and 239 Sounds.
I'm not comparing both versions, I'm just saying, it's okay that you want to compare one version of Scratch to another. Just know that the Scratch Team had to remove these features to add more content and blocks (-cough, cough- The while block…)
And, if you want to relive the days of Scratch 2.0, you can download the Offline Editor here.
Warning: Scratch 2.0 does not work for operating systems other than Mac OS and Windows.

“My main issue is that there are tons of missing features that we had in 2.0: remix trees, tags, sound editor features, save to local file, project restore, centering in costume editor, embedding projects, and numerous other things I'm sure.Remix trees — still exist.
Tags — still exists, look at the Nots and Credits of this project.
Save to local file — still exists.

Centering in the costume editor - still exists!

Embedding projects - still exists!

This forum is called questions about Scratch, not opinions about Scratch
Anyways, things were so much better back in those good ol' 2.0 days

It's kind of a moot point now, isn't it? 3.0 is what we are working with now. Perhaps use Suggestions to help point 3.0 towards what you would like it to be.

I do kinda wish they brought back the little thing where it said how many scripts and sprites you had.

I do kinda wish they brought back the little thing where it said how many scripts and sprites you had. There is no official answer why it was removed, but it may be because:
- To simplify the GUI and minimize space in the toolbar.
- Users could use this to make a competition of a number of sprites and scripts, they aren't really necessary.

A certain browser extension (I can't say it) lets you enable the sprite and script count feature (it includes block count).I do kinda wish they brought back the little thing where it said how many scripts and sprites you had. There is no official answer why it was removed, but it may be because:

Also, how about this?

It's a Scratch 2.0 screenshot with the sounds tab in it. Below the sound's name in a thumbnail, you can see the sound length in minutes and seconds. However, it looks like Scratch 3.0 got rid of the minutes (only allows seconds). There is no add-on in TurboWarp that allows you to show the number of minutes in sound lengths. So how do I work around with the sound length in minutes that exist in Scratch 2.0?
