I think you should make a block, which when you type something in it. The text will be displayed on the screen. Kind of like the say block, except without the circle. This is also similar to the text(“Hello World”,200,200); in javascript

You could just make a variable or something- ;w; I dont understand whats wrong with our current options for this.

Although this would be easier. You can just put the text there through backdrops.

It looks better. Its more proffesional also. In real games I don't hink there is a orange border displaying your high score. ALso it takes a really long time to make a program which can display text like that. (hours for me)

those are my reasons
Thank you for asking

I mean changing text. Like high scores.
Thank you for the good clarifying question

But then again. You can input text with backdrops or with sprites.

Scratch is about creating things yourself, you can't expect the editor to do everything for you. Maybe you can find someone else's project and take their assets with credit so you don't have to spend hours creating this, but we can't add every little feature. What we have right now covers a lot and I think this suggestion is a bit too similar to the say and think blocks and the variable counter.

I agree, I guess scratch is mainly about learning anyway.

Mabye instead of it being a main block, it could be an addon, like the pen tool.

Don't worry, everyone gets better with time. I'm sure that there are lots of excellent text engines out there.

Still wouldn't be added even if it was an addon.

I mean moving text. For example making a counter from 1-1000

I also think that there should be a text block because many programs already use it. It doesn't have to be a block, it can be an add on. Like the pen tool, it can decrease repetitive work and increase time for creativity. This will make things easier and more fun. This is comparable to the industrial revolution, if something gets easier you can spend more time and improving other things.

I'm surprised how this hasn't been mentioned yet. Anyways, support as this could help with making write your own adventure games and stories.

No. Unfortunately, the Scratch Lab-exclusive extensions don't work on normal Scratch.
