it is very annoying that defining blocks cant return values. or do anything of the sort. I shouldn't have to make a var for each one to return to then to read that. also why cant we have scripted variables?

example: each “block” gets their own local variables that can be set then returned. they can use global variables but the local ones don't escape the block, just like how you can make a variable for only a sprite, you should be able to do the same with blocks.
I can't stress this enough that this is a very needed feature.

Although this might be a good feature, the same things can be achieved by lists and can be returned to a block

The custom blocks only read values when the custom block is clicked, not the define block or anything else

I did have a small problem with it but later i fixed it by making a list and making the variables read them!

He meant as in the custom blocks that needs to return values, he could just use broadcasts
