Hmm, maybe the scratch team just thought it was a good name? There's nothing in the scratch wiki though…

But how does “Frank” relate to anything to big green creatures?

My guess is they chose popular names on lists of names online.

Frankenstein shortened, i'm guessing.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. If you look closely at the sprite, it has two little electrodes where its ears should be. This is a hallmark sign of Frankenstein, along with being big and green. It could have been shortened from Frankenstein to Frank because that way it is easier for younger Scratchers to read or understand.

IDK, but try searching the Internet or the Scratch Wiki to see if they have any answers…
But the ST could have thought it is just a good name, IDK!

Why is the Frank sprite called Frank?

Frank looks like Frankenstein, and maybe “Frankenstein” wasn’t the best name, so they named him Frank.

Frankly, I have to say that these people are correct.

Now as for why, is where my opinion differs (ever so slightly), I think that they wanted it to be a more kid friendly version of Frankenstein's Monster, so Frank is a reference to what the sprite is, while being easy to remember and kid friendly.
