My opinions on the new studio update.

Dear Scratch team,
Thank you for always trying to make this site better. We know you're doing your best to make new updates so that more people can enjoy creating projects and communicating with others in Scratch.
This post, like many others, is about the new studio update.

As a Scratcher who does Roleplays(RPs), and uses studios for project collaboration purposes, this update is unhelpful.

New Scratchers not being able to create studios - This is okay, but I doubt it was necessary.
Fortunately, becoming a Scratcher is quite easy.

Managers not being able to edit studio descriptions, thumbnails, etc - This is going to be a problem for big studios, studios where the owner is inactive/banned, etc. Does this mean that each time a owner of a studio is inactive for a long time, someone else has to make the same studio and invite everyone and every project that was in that studio again? For example, there are studios that keep track of past/current/future FPCs(Front page curators). Does this mean that if the founder of that studio becomes inactive, that studio has no choice but to become inactive?
I find that rather inconvenient and inefficient.

This update also breaks the point of Owners promoting curators into managers.
I'm actually a person who experienced another manager ruining a studio and saying disrespectful things to people in the comments section. But that issue has been solved with the person being banned from Scratch. I believe a better solution for the ST to prevent these “studio raids” is to improve and update the report feature. Make it so that people can specifically write what that user has done wrong and what part of the community guidelines they broke.

Username/Icon/About me/What I'm working on is not enough.

The bigger a studio, the more people it's going to need to manage said studio. I believe the 40 managers limit is unnecessary.

And lastly…
The 25 replies limit.
I absolutely do NOT like this.
As I said earlier, I use studios for RPs and project collaborations. A lot of Scratchers already posted how it's going to affect RPs, and I agree with them.
I also saw opinions saying: “But Scratch isn't for RPs! This doesn't affect non-Roleplayers!”

Not really.

A discussion about the development stage of a project between 4 Scratchers is easily over 100 replies. 25 replies is not enough. A comment chain that would have 100 replies for example, would simply make 4 comment chains of 25 replies. And each comment chain would have to specify which former comment chain the new one is from.

Also, that would mean that someone would have to notify everyone who was in that comment chain that a new comment chain has been created. You might think that this could be solved if the people who were in that comment chain just simply be active in that studio and check if new comment chains have been created, but there are Scratchers who are in a lot of studios.

Asking them to frequently check a single studio for every new activity is inefficient, especially considering that the “new studio activity” notification pops up much, much later(at least a few hours later) after the first new activity.

If the ST truly wants to limit the number of replies due to maintenance issues, I suggest 1500~2000 replies. As a person who does RPs, that's the appropriate number of replies that doesn't crash one's computer and the server.

And as a person who uses studios for project collaboration communication, that's more than enough for a good project development discussion.

Thank you.

IMO, under all circumstances, 1.5k-2k is way too much. Not even YouTube has a limit that high and they're owned by Google. YT's limit is 500 replies, but that's a Multi-Trillion dollar company. Scratch runs on donation money, and that's very limited (over 90% of Scratchers don't donate)

The studios before the update did hold 1000+ replies. But now it doesn't.
25 is way too low. It should hold at least a few hundred replies. If 1500 ~ 2000 is too much, I suppose 1000 isn't bad either.
An RP is at least 200 ~ 800 (or even 1000+) replies.

AFAIK, with the limited donation money the ST gets, any limit above 100 would be impossible for the ST to sustain. Again, YT's reply limit is 500, and Google has $1.2T, way more than the ST.
