because a lot of people want the eggplant emoji back but that's rejected

Eggplant and grapes are two different things.
Also how often do you type a comment and think “Gee, this could really use a grape emoji”?

If grape was implemented, then we'd also need banana, orange, kiwi, blueberry, raspberry, watermelon, mango, peach, and a million other fruits.

The food emojis were added for April Fool's [sic] Day, and I don't think there needs to be any more.
I have seen lots of suggestions like this, such as a donkey emoji, a rat emoji, and a strawberry one. The best solution I can see is implementing “full” Unicode emoji support, as it contains almost everything I've seen suggested. except the crouton emoji. oh and definitely the itch cat.

I apologize if this isn't exactly helpful, but I recall Paddle2See saying that the ST is looking into supporting (presumably select) Unicode emojis. If that's actually implemented, a bunch of fruits would be available!

I don’t think the ST will add an emoji to “replace” the eggplant as it may just cause the issues the eggplant ran into. That’s not going to say that is obscure and would be rarely be used in a normal conversation
