Advanced definition of splines: A spline is a continuous function which coincides with a polynomial on every subinterval of the whole interval on which is defined. In other words, splines are functions which are piecewise polynomial. The coefficients of the polynomial differs from interval to interval, but the order of the polynomial is the same. google

Easier definition of splines: the mathematical turns of an object, can be made in the scratch editor with complexity, including lots of cos and tan, and timing changes in which the objects preform a movement. me

(Don’t take my word on this, this is just what I’ve seen throughout scratch and the ‘google’ definition is more accurate if you want the real information.)

basically if you wanna get smooth position/direction/size/variable change, you'll use it. It's called trigonometry (yes math things xP). I don't know if you know about this about this but it based on circle. You can see this interactive project by icmy123 to understand better. It's really simple to build tho.
