I realize that Scratchers should always be careful of what they post, but let's say you make a rash decision and make a comment that could potentially cause a flame war, and in a few minutes you realize what this will do, but you cannot get rid of your comment by any means. So, I think this would help stop flame wars or arguments before they begin, but it would still be treated as though it were flagged by someone else; you don't get off the hook just because you flagged your own, you get the normal consequences.

This was on the 1.4 forums. Even though I support, I want to say it was shot down by everyone who said “Don't post it in the first place!”, even though this would be quite useful. Though I haven't seen many needs for it. It would probably save code though.

I guess that was on the last day it was up. This was on the 1.4 forums. Even though there haven't been many instances of needing it, it would still be handy, and then ST could tell you if you overreacted about your comment or not.

Yep, exactly. That gives me an idea: Maybe there could be an “ask about appropriateness” button next to submit, which sends it to ST and if they think it's appropriate, they'll post it for you.I guess that was on the last day it was up. Because 1.4 forum posts won't be copied, Starscreamclone is opening it here. This was on the 1.4 forums. what if instead you could just repeal your own comments? you can delete them from your own profile, why not from other people's stuff?

I thought of this, but I figure it would just be easier to flag your own. exactly what happens when your comment is flagged?

Also, it might be a “borderline” comment, such as giving out personal info, which wouldn't normally be worthy of a delete.I thought of this, but I figure it would just be easier to flag your own. exactly what happens when your comment is flagged?

I guess I'm not convinced that it would be useful enough times to justify putting that feature in there. It could be confusing to new users, who might be just learning what Flag does - it wouldn't be clear to them why anybody would want to flag their own words…and it could delay their understanding of the function.
Life doesn't always give you an “undo” button - I think it's a good digital life skill to learn to think carefully before you post
If you do find that you have commented something that you later regret, you could use the Contact Us form to explain the situation to the Scratch Team, before it has a chance to escalate.

(Bringing this back up). I've found that when deleting one of your comments on your stuff, it gives you an option of reporting, anyhow. I guess I'm not convinced that it would be useful enough times to justify putting that feature in there. Aside from that, it's just a way of saying “Hey, I made a mistake and I'm prepared to face the consequences”, instead of just essentially deleting or undoing it. As for the new Scratcher confusion, when you are clicking the report button, it gives a little explanation of what it does, anyhow. I realize it would be a huge pain to include this, but I'm thinking that along with the coming of the Scratcher status, maybe enable it for when they become one?
