Wings of Fire Legends: Dragonslayer: A Book Review
Dragonslayer is a multi-perspective novel, based around scavengers, or, as we know them, humans. The Wings of Fire (WoF) is a series set in a mythical world, full of dragons. All of the other books are set in the perspective of (you guessed it) dragons, so this one is special that way. This book ties up all the loose ends in WoF 14 (the new one), as well as explains what “reading monkeys” are.
Wren’s village sacrifices her to the dragons, tying her to a stone slab. Unbeknownst to them, Wren escapes and adopts a little Skywing (AKA Mountain Dragon) who is abandoned by his mother in the wilderness. These two strike off into the wilderness, as Wren learns some Dragon, and Sky, the dragon, learns some human. They steer clear of people.
Leaf, Wren’s brother, is devastated after Wren “is eaten by dragons when she didn’t pay enough attention to her surroundings.” He vows to become a Dragonslayer, and take revenge on the species that ate his sister. His other sister, Rowan, helps him train with a sword, and he soon becomes strong and athletic, very different from his pale, weak, arms from before.
Ivy lives in the underground city of Valor, home to the famous Dragonslayer, who killed the queen of the Sandwings (AKA, Desert Dragons). She knows something is off about her father’s story of slaying the monarch, though. He never shows anyone the jewels that he stole from the palace, and he never pays for anything either. Everyone is too in awe of him to notice, except for Daffodil and Violet, her two best friends. Together, the three make up the Truth Seekers (which sounds cheesy, but it’s basically them trying to uncover secrets).
