Scratch 2.0 download for desktop

I think it would be a good idea to make a downloadable version, Because scratch 2.0 is really slow in the browser. Hope you see this, scratch team.

Its May 23rd and I'm getting real tired of using version 1.3 or whatever. It's been too tiring for me and Ive seen some real good stuff recently. I know that it's the scratch team that's responsible for the downloads. All I know is that three years ago before scratch became popular nothing was as good as it is today. I want to prove myself one of the greatest scratchers of all time. I'm not going to hook up to the website for hours a day trying to make a good project because its too slow. at least tell me when the new version will be downloadable.

Over the summer.

Please, next time if you have a question that seems common, try searching.

I am not getting this. What exactly do you mean by slow? Does it take too long to save or do projects run choppily? Also, the downloadable version won't necessarily be any faster than the browser version, since they will both use Flash. In the old website, there was a difference in the speed just because the downloadable version and the online player used different programming languages. (Squeak and Java respectively)

Their Internet is slow, so I guess it takes a long time to save to the cloud?

While I am disappointed that this question has been asked so many times, I'm kinda more disappointed that the scratch team didn't wait until the dl'able version was finished before release as it seems pretty important to me.

Lightnin from the Scratch Team says here that it is coming out in the summer.

Yep! But it won't be ready until this summer. If you'd like to help beta test it, we'll post an announcement when it's ready to try out.

I'm a school teacher and my students are very excited about what scratch can do. My students love your program and from my experience, the internet can be goofy at times. Our district will block lots of things, especially videos for fear they may have pornography it them. They block lots of gaming sites so kids can't play games on the internet when they should be learning how to type, doing word processing, etc. My fear is the filters on the district and state level may cause us problems with your fantastic program. So I emphasis having your 2.0 version work on your computer not using the web only, that way when the internet doesn't work at school, my students can still get excited in programming new things. Make it possible to upload to work in both places with information about when the last update was made so we can avoid downloading or uploading over our correct program to date. Thanks for what your doing for kids to have creative fun!

It would be a good idea for the other schools and children out there for a downloadable, but 2.0 was recently released, they can make it or not. They made Scratch less memory absorbing and project making has more features! At the mean time you can go along with 1.4 or Web version 2.0

What why did they make it browser only? Really dumb move
We want to download it!!
Browser..pfft!! what if we have no connection at the moment and an Idea for scratch comes into your head what are you going to do?
wait till you get connection……. {removed by moderator. Please use respectful language when commenting} no open the app and use it but now we cant because of what the scratch team has done. Absurd.

This teacher has a right to complain scratch made a stupid mistake doing this I'm in a school were we were thought scratch and I would not appreciate it if we had to use the internet for scratch. why? because it is ugly and not fun, internet is slow sometimes and at certain schools randomly fluctuates on and off so I think scratch should have used their brains and stayed with the application/program.

Dude, calm down. It's being released this summer. If you're so gripey about it, then use Scratch 1.4. Otherwise, you're just being annoying (- note: disrespectful language replaced by moderator). If the downloadable version was released when Scratch 2.0 was released, then it would take longer to develop, and there would be lots of complaints. This is one major disadvantage about Scratch 2.0, but it's nothing to be so gripey about.
