Video Game Music 2.0
So I think I may have accidentally locked the original thread, I'm not really sure. I don't know how it works or how to fix it.
Why Video Game Music is the Best
1. They can be any music genre.
2. They add greatly to the experience of the game, and listening to video game music might remind you of how you felt/ what you did in the game when that song was playing.
3. It just sounds good compared to today's more recent music.
Discuss the best type of music, the ones that come from video games.
Some Examples:
Triage at Dawn- Half-Life 2
Gangplank Galleon- Donkey Kong Country
Rules of Nature- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Live and Learn- Sonic Adventure 2
Robots FTW- Portal 2
Exile Vilify- Portal 2 (this kind of counts)
Final Boss Music of Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

I like the whole Portal 2 soundtrack, and the Portal 1 soundtrack is what I call my ‘working music’, although I listen to both when I work.
My favorite ones are generally Comedy = Tragedy + Time and thereafter, but as I said, I love all of them (except for I Saw a Deer Today for some reason).
Also, GLaDOS is an amazing singer, and I've nearly (and probably have once) cried after them just by how beautiful they are and that I can sense her pain when she sings…

You take that back, I Saw a Deer Today is the best song on the soundtrack, besides maybe The Friendly Faith Plate? Heh. My favorite working songs off of that album are Adrenal Vapor, Triple Laser Phase, and the robot waiting rooms (aka the PeTI music) (except for I Saw a Deer Today for some reason)
Other than the Portal 2 soundtrack, my favorite game sound has to be the Spyro series. The original three, mind you - we don't like to talk about Skylanders. The good stuff is composed by Stewart Copeland. Apparently he's a drummer and it shows in the songs.
Favorite chip is definitely the VVVVVV music. Some of the songs are a little cheesy tho.

Oh, I used to like it, but then I subconsciously associated it with something unpleasant and so that's what I think of when I hear it…You take that back, I Saw a Deer Today is the best song on the soundtrack, besides maybe The Friendly Faith Plate? I like a lot of video games soundtracks, I honestly don't know where to start.
Super Mario Galaxy was the first Mario game with composed music, and the music is simply beautiful, especially the Gusty Garden Galaxy.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time also has a great soundtrack, and the music is very beautiful, especially the opening theme.
I love the music for Spyro the Dragon, too. I think that Steward Copeland does a great job with the music, and I wish the soundtrack had been released. You can even find the Amanda Show theme in there.

And the Secret Song. Battleblock Theater's “Buckle Your Pants” is a pretty noteworthy song.

The entire Battleblock Theater soundtrack is really good! I don't know the names of any of the songs but there's one in particular I really like..
The best song on the Portal 2 soundtrack is actually “FrankenTurrets”

The music from any Shin Megami Tensei games are a must. The first games for the NES even had a special sound chip I believe.

I remember buying a Collector's Edition of a game called Frozen Synapse. It was really confusing to play and I didn't really play that much of it. But it had MP3s of the soundtrack on the disc and it was brilliantly done. They were all composed by an artist named nervous_testpilot who clearly knew what they were doing. It had slow, spooky songs, it had fast, action packed songs,(mainly the slow ones) and they really fit into the game. My favourites from that one were Welcome to Markov Geist and Focus.

I'm quite fond of the NieR Automata soundtrack. It seems that each of the songs fits the places they're made for perfectly. I guess that's what a good composer is.

I've already said this in another topic, but the Yoshi's Crafted World soundtrack is overhated in my opinion
