When you're starting out Scratch, you've probably been told to advertise your projects in the forums. Several Scratchers do advertise here, however it's quite rare to get views. When I first started out, I thought that I would be getting hundreds and hundreds of views… but I didn't get too many. There are hundreds and thousands of posts on the show and tell forums, yet only a few get popular. Some of the scratchers viewing your posts probably have no intent of checking out your projects… so here are few tips to help you get more views!

How to get more views on your projects:

1) What is the first thing someone sees when they look at your project? Thumbnails! Thumbnails help your project stand out and seem interesting. Think about it… Would you be more interested in viewing a project with a blank white canvas, or a colourful, bright and exciting thumbnail? Thumbnails help to get your viewer hooked into seeing what your project is about, so remember, visuals matter! Some common things in a good thumbnail include themed and unique backgrounds, elements from your project, and text. Start off with choosing a background that matches your theme (for example, an outer space background if your project is a space platformer). Then, add closeup pictures of the characters, and small objects in your project. Finally, add large, bold text to get your viewer interested.

2) A scratcher will also take a look at your title… You want an exciting title to match your thumbnail. Below are some comparisons of how a boring title can turn into a fun one!

Soccer game => Ultimate Soccer Match
Diamond platformer => The mystical diamond journey
Escape the lava => Lava dash!
The haunted house => The ghostly house of darkness!
Vacations => The most exciting vacations ever!

3) Making friends… Making friends is a great way to have more views. Some ways to make friends on scratch are through collaborating with other scratchers on projects, meeting new people in studios, and talking to people in forums. You can also write a nice comment on someone’s project, and maybe leave a love and fave. Remember, a small act of kindness comes a long way! Try working together with some of your followers on projects. Your friends on scratch are likely to view your projects, and overtime, more and more people will hear of your projects. But keep in mind that you shouldn’t just make a friend with someone only to get views, you should make friends with scratchers you would like to be friends with and talk too.

4) Try basing a project on some of the features or trending ones. It can help inspire you to create fun projects and to brainstorm new ideas. It’s a good way to get you on the right track with an interesting and popular idea.

5) Advertise on studios… One of the most common ways to advertise your projects is through studios. If you’re new to studios, they’re a great way to advertise your projects, and notify other scratchers in the comments. Some studios are meant for only games or animations, whereas others are ok with any type of projects. To find trending studios, search up whatever type of studio you would like to add your project too, and choose your favourites. Becoming a curator and manager can also help you get more noticed. After having a few followers, you can also create your own studio. Managers and curators can then invite all their other followers, introducing you to several different Scratchers!

How to get more popular on studios:

Become a curator/Manager… A lot of scratchers, me included, always get a lot of studio invites from other Scratchers. But even though it can be quite annoying, becoming a curator whenever you can can really help you get more noticed… and here’s why: Once you are a curator, you can form multiple friendships with other curators and managers too. Getting involved in the comments can help you get in touch with Scratcher all over the world! This can help you to have more followers, meaning more views. If you stay in touch with the studio and participate in daily studio events, a lot more people in the studio will get to know you.

Create your own studio… Creating your own studio is a great way to form friendships with your followers and other Scratchers. If you are comfortable with it, I suggest that you should promote as many curators as you can (as long as they are kind to the studio). Managers are allowed to invite all their followers, meaning that more people will join your studio. Many Scratchers will be introduced to the studio, and more projects will be added. The more projects added, the more popular the studio becomes, meaning that more scratchers will view your studio. You will be introduced to several new Scratchers; this can help you to get more noticed in Scratch.

Follow some of the unpopular studios… Following unpopular and less known studios will help you to form friendships with other Scratchers there, and people will pay more attention to you. Make sure to get involved with the studio, and maybe become friends with the owner/curators/managers!

In my opinion, Canva.com is a great source to make thumbnails! They give hundreds and thousands of different elements, items, pictures, backgrounds, and text styles to use! Most of the provided items on Canva are free, so you should try it out! I suggest making your thumbnail on a poster or square sheet in Canva. I will provide the link below… Feel free to check it out!
