were profile comments not there until 2013

i looked at statistics
and profile comments was at 0 until January 2013
so did they just add them on that very specific day
or was there a different time that they were added

That is correct. The Scratch 1.4 website did not have profile comments at all. The Scratch 2.0 website introduced profile comments for the first time. I think the beta website for Scratch 2.0 was released in January 2013, which makes sense why profile comments started appearing then.

Sorry that this isn't really my question, but profile comments weren't there by then – but what about project comments and studio comments?

Yes, both of those were still there. Source: I have been looking at archived 1.4 pages and source code for a personal project of mine

Edit: Well, studio comments technically didn't exist since studios were called galleries before Scratch 2.0, but it was literally just a name change.
